‘Star Trek XI’ pushed back to 2009

Spock, meet Spock †¦ Zachary Quinto plays young Leonard Nimoy

J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek XI is being pushed back from December 25, 2008 to May 8, 2009. Paramount claims it stands to make much more money as a summer release than as a holiday release. Abram’s take on the classic space-traveling sci-fi saga starts from the beginning with the inaugural launch and voyage of the Enterprise. I’ve typically enjoyed the Star Trek films, but I wouldn’t call myself a trekkie. However, this one has me more interested than usual, mainly because of the casting. And if you’re not a trekkie, here’s the scoop …

  • Chris Pine (Smokin’ Aces)Â  as Captain Kirk
  • Zachary Quinto (Heroes) as Spock
  • Eric Bana (Chopper) as Nero
  • Winona Ryder (Reality Bites) as Grayson
  • Zoe Saldana (Vantage Point) as Uhura
  • Karl Urban (Pathfinder) as ‘Bones’ McCoy
  • Bruce Greenwood (Deja Vu) as Pike
  • John Cho (Harold & Kumar) as Sulu
  • Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz) as Scotty
  • Anton Yelchin (Alpha Dog) as Chekov
  • and Leonard Nimoy, as Spock
