Frank Miller’s ‘Spirit’ is Looking Strong

Spirit is based on Will Eisner’s classic comic book of the same title. The story follows Denny Colt, a rookie cop in a rough city, who is murdered and returns from the dead as The Spirit, whose purpose is to fight against the evil men that live amongst us. For those of you not familiar with the comic, you may be thinking this doesn’t seem very original, especially with having seen a lot of The Crow already. But, keep in mind that The Spirit is a different story and has been around a lot longer than Eric Draven and The Crow comic by James O’Barr.Oh yeah, and Spirit is being directed by Frank Miller (Author, 300), his first venture behind the lens.
On the film’s official website, Frank Miller speaks very highly of his cast in the production blog. The cast indeed is impressive and promising, filled with talent. Among the lineup is Gabriel Macht (The Good Shepard)Â as Denny Colt/The Spirit, Scarlett Johansson (The Prestige)Â as Silken Floss, Samuel L. Jackson as The Octopuss, Eva Mendes (We Own the Night)Â as Sand Seraf, Paz Vega (10 Items or Less)Â as Plaster of Paris, and Jaime King (Sin City) as Lorelei Rox. The biggest gamble in this film is Frank Miller helming the project as a first-time director, but if we’re lucky he’ll bring the same style and grittiness of his comics to the big screen. |
