WAMG First Look at ‘The Wackness’

The Wackness, directed by Jonathon Levine, turned out to be a hot item at Sundance. Attracting several major distributors, including the Weinstein Co. and even Netflix, Sony eventually offered the winning bid at $2 million. The story is about Luke, a troubled drug-dealing teenager who seeks professional help in Dr. Squires, played by Sir Ben Kingsley. Squires happens to also be a drug user, and agrees to trade therapy for drugs. Eventually, Luke falls in love with Squire’s daughter. Typically, I enjoy everything Sir Ben Kingsley does, even when he’s cast in an otherwise mediocre film. This looks to be one of those great stories that Kingsley tends to be drawn towards.
