Review: ‘Blade Runner: The Final Cut
Mark:
For those of you that have been watching TV lately. You might have seen the ad for “Blade Runner: The Final Cut”. Now if you have not seen Blade Runner, I’ll give you a bit of a review.
Blade Runner is set in 2019 where flying cars stream across the sky, and there are established colonies on other planets. The technology is pretty cool I must say and there are dangerous super advanced cyborgs known as “replicants”. These “replicants” are banned from earth due to their super human strength and intelligence. But 6 of them kill the crew of a space shuttle and make it to back to earth. Now Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is pulled out of retirement to hunt down and destroy the renegade replicants. But in doing so, he falls in love with another replicant and is torn between his job and his heart.
There are a couple dry parts in the movie, but they are brief and are soon followed up with gritty urban action and suspense. All in all it’s a good science fiction movie, and a solid action movie. All of it has been re-done and it shows, the sound is great and the picture is clear and sharp (despite the fact that 90% of the movie takes place at night). Along with the movie you get a behind the scenes disc that has all the back story and behind the scenes goodies that everyone likes to see. If you are into sci-fi movies then this would be worth the money. If you are just looking for an action packed, guns-a-blazing movie. This might not be for you, although it does have a really good fight scenes.

Zac:
Ridley Scott’s classic will be available on DVD in its final form in about a month, but Warner Bros. is giving it a limited theatrical run. I was lucky enough to get to see this and am happy to report that it looks wonderful. There are no drastic changes to the film other than it looks extremely cleaned up and all the matte paintings look quite good now. The effects still hold up well and the story is as good as it was 25 years ago.
This was the first time I ever got to see this in theaters and I must say it only improves the movie as does a nice sound system. The movie itself still holds up well, maybe sags a bit in the middle with a couple of pacing issues, but nothing worth getting to upset about.
Overall, it is a great movie, looking the best it probably has ever looked, and if you are a fan of the film do yourself a favor and try and view this in a theater. And if you have never seen it, it’s definitely worth taking the plunge.
