Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood: A Behind-the-Scenes Adventure

WAMG headed to Hollywood over the Labor Day weekend and the town was buzzing over the upcoming release of Tim Burton’s BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE.

(Hollywood & Highland)

One of our stops was the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood. We visited the studio lot decades ago when “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” was on the air in the mid 1990’s and was filming at Warner Brothers. It was a tram tour and it took visitors on a guided tour of one of the most famous movie studios in the world. And that was it.

In the immortal words of Robin, “Holy Cow Batman,” have they upped their game and revamped the whole tour – one movie geeks will absolutely LOVE!

Fans can step into the world of movies and TV, not only with a guided tour of Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California, but really experience the magic of Hollywood! We were able to explore iconic sets, see props and costumes from TV shows, and even caught a glimpse of current productions. It’s a terrific tour that gives you a true look into Hollywood’s golden age.

This amazing tour now includes the backlots with a walking tour through the streets of Gotham City, Central Perk, Big Bang Theory and other famous locations. Our guide, Frye, gave an entertaining and informative tour, filled with expertise and humor. The entire staff was helpful, fun, and engaging.

With their vast collection of costumes from different eras and styles, they can help bring any vision to life. Over 60,000 square feet of climate-controlled stock, including selections from top designers.

The highlight was the Interactive Exhibits where you can explore the worlds of Harry Potter and Game of Thrones and dive into the DC Universe. From the Batmobile from 1989’s BATMAN to the costumes of The Trinity – Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman, as well as the members of The Justice League, comic book fans can celebrate their heroes in this awesome final part of the tour.

On September 21st, 2024, the studio is calling all Batman fans with the Bat-Signal and a special film screening of Tim Burton’s Batman on the iconic WB backlot.  Bring your friends and family for a night of fun and memorable moments, as you go behind-the-scenes of your favorite Batman films and see original costumes, cowls, and Batmobiles.

Illumination recently launched two original properties that captivated audiences worldwide: The Secret Life of Pets, which achieved the best opening for an original movie, animated or otherwise, in U.S. history, and the global smash, Sing. And in 2018, Illumination’s Dr. Seuss’s The Grinch had the biggest opening weekend of any Christmas-themed movie in history.

Illumination’s upcoming films include Minions: The Rise of Gru in July 2020 and Sing 2 in Summer 2021.

“The Secret Life of Pets:  Off the Leash!” will be located on Pets Place, previously referred to as Baker Street, and adjacent to the popular “Despicable Me Minion Mayhem” and “Super Silly Fun Land” attractions. With the installation of all-new store front facades, Pets Place will capture the charm of a busy NY street, including an iconic NYC subway station.

WAMG Checks Out “Jurassic World—The Ride” At Universal Studios Hollywood

In August WAMG had the chance to visit Universal Studios Hollywood to check out the mega attraction “Jurassic World—The Ride” and things just got real!

Watch this behind-the-scenes of look at the ride to see what it takes to bring dinosaurs to life.

The update to the Jurassic World ride are on line, and things did indeed get real! From the moment that you get an eyeful of the enormous Mososaurus in its tank, gracefully swimming, despite it’s gigantic size, it is a sight to behold, and can be a bit frightening as it seems to notice you.

The rest of the ride is still fun, with raptors, dilophosaurs, and even the Tyrannosaurus and many others waiting for you as you twist and turn through the forest adventure. It doesn’t get much better, especially if you love dinosaurs!

The elaborately themed all-new “Raptor Encounter” where Blue, the beloved Velociraptor from the JURASSIC WORLD movies, engages with guests, including us, in daring face-to-face encounters, along with the addition of two new dinosaurs – a Baby Raptor with her Raptor Handler and a life-size Triceratops who greet guests outside the “Jurassic World—The Ride” entrance, further enhance the entire experience.

Brought to life by employing the exact computer-generated model and images used to create her for the big screen, Blue tips the scales at a hefty 750 pounds, towering 15 feet in height and 13 feet from tail to snout, and succumbs to highly skilled handlers who adeptly guide her to within feet of guests.

Plus, a new interactive “Dino Play” area is designed to inspire children of all ages to explore and excavate giant dinosaur fossils.

If you can’t make it out to Hollywood, Universal has a great alternative.

The adventure continues as you join forces with a team of scientists to unravel a corrupt plan and save Jeanie, an all-new dinosaur, from a terrible fate. Along the way, experience some of Jurassic World’s most iconic dinosaurs including Blue the Raptor, Triceratops, Pteranodons and the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex!

Costa Rican-inspired cuisine and flavorful Tiki cocktails served at Jurassic Café and all-new tropical Isla Nu-bar add to the dynamic guest experience while an array of souvenir collectible, limited edition and one-of-a-kind dimensional dinosaur sculptures from the Jurassic Outfitters store invite guests to savor a piece of this exciting thrill ride even after they have gone home.

“The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” is a site to behold. From its snow-capped roofs and cobblestone streets to the historic British sensibilities that characterize the whimsical look and feel of the land, “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” transports guests of all ages to the very places they read about in the stories or watched on the silver screen.

Upon entering the land through the archway, Hogsmeade bustles to life with the same vitality of a quaint local village: merchants hard at work, a train conductor welcoming new arrivals and a pub packed to the gills with hungry patrons, but with the added element of enthusiastic guests intent on experiencing them all, including the land’s signature ride, “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.”

From the moment that you have to leap aboard, buckle in, and get ready for a ride like you’ve never experienced before.

You are taken in to the magical world, completely immersed in a Wizarding World adventure, racing along with Harry and Ron, trying to escape a dragon, dodging dementors, spiders, and obstacles. It is dizzying at times, but thrilling at the entire time, and we found ourselves laughing, gasping, and amazed from the moment it started until the moment it ended. This entire section of the park is in character, right down to the sounds and design of the public restrooms, with Moaning Myrtle reminding you that she’s nearby at all times.

And then there’s the classic revenge of the Mummy ride, a high speed indoor rollercoaster that gives you the sights and sounds of The Mummy, and man is it fast (and quite fun). This one isn’t for the faint of heart, but it’s worth riding a few times, and your adrenaline will never be the same.

For those that love giant robots (and who doesn’t) we got to ride the Transformers: The Ride 3D and it WILL be your cup of tea (or oil). Based on the iconic brand from Hasbro and the electrifying film franchise, directed by Michael Bay, the film has been celebrated for its multi-generational appeal, inventive storyline, spectacular action sequences and amazing special effects. This fun ride revolutionizes theme park ride perceptions as a cutting-edge mega- attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The dynamic, motion-based thrill ride tells an original “TRANSFORMERS” story using original, photo-realistic 3D-HD media, sophisticated special effects masterminded by Industrial Light & Magic, and one of the most elaborate roaming flight simulator ride systems ever created. Fusing high-tech elements with an epic new “TRANSFORMERS” tale, “Transformers: The Ride–3D” set a new standard in the world of theme park attractions, stretching the medium’s potential as an immersive and powerful storytelling vehicle.

It’s a 3D ride, meaning that you DO have to wear the 3D glasses, but you won’t mind doing it at all. Optimus Prime and his heroic cohort of Autobot soldiers fight Megatron  while you are whisked and swirled and buffeted from all angles.

Altogether, these rides are awesome for kids of all ages, and give you entertainment that you just can’t get anywhere else, PERIOD.

For those who like their rides on the scary side, Halloween Horror Nights begins this month and runs select nights September 13 through November 3.

As panic and chaos ensue, the source is revealed:  JURASSIC WORLD’s unstoppable Tyrannosaurus rex tramples her way across sets and sound stages to ignite Universal Studios Hollywood’s new marketing campaign, It Just Got Real, in support of the theme park’s eagerly awaited mega attraction, “Jurassic World—The Ride,” opening this summer.

“Jurassic World—The Ride” will debut an original storyline that takes place within the theme park as depicted in Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s film, JURASSIC WORLD, on the day the Indominus rex escapes.

The exciting thrill ride will soar to new heights with the addition of several iconic dinosaurs from the movie, including the colossal Indominus rex and the magnificent aquatic Mosasaurus that will mesmerize onlookers in her natural habitat from behind a three million gallon glass encased Aquarium Observatory tank.

“Jurassic World—The Ride” comes to life under the direction of the award-winning and inspired minds at Universal Creative, the Academy Award®-winning special-effects visionaries at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), a division of Lucasfilm, Ltd., Universal Pictures and acclaimed filmmakers Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow and Frank Marshall.

Dino’s Still Rule At Universal Studios Hollywood’s Celebration Of 25th Anniversary Of JURASSIC PARK

This past weekend, Universal Studios Hollywood celebrated the 25th Anniversary of JURASSIC PARK. Yes, it’s hard to believe, but the iconic Steven Spielberg-directed classic came out 25 years ago!

To celebrate the momentous occasion, Universal Studios Hollywood opened its doors to only the most hard-core fans of the dino-flick, and WeAreMovieGeeks.com was there to soak in all the action.

For three nights, fans were invited to come in costume and celebrate all things Jurassic Park. There were props from the movie on display, including costumes and vehicles, photo ops and other interactive displays, including a virtual reality experience where fans could don VR goggles and headphones and be transported directly into the “park”, complete with Raptors, a Triceratops and a Pteranodon, as well as an erupting volcano.

One of the most interesting parts of the evening was the panel discussion, hosted by Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow.

Other members of the panel included Jurassic Park 1st Assistant Director John T. Kretchmer, Director of Photography Dean Cundey, and Oscar-winning Special Effects Supervisor Dennis Muren.

Having all worked on the movie in 1993, they had the greatest behind-the-scene stories. The die-hard fans in attendance ate it up, especially the fun fact that the final scene in the movie, where the T-Rex comes in and saves the day by taking out the raptors wasn’t originally scripted. The T-Rex wasn’t even in the scene. Said Kretchmer, “as we were shooting it, Steven (Spielberg) felt something wasn’t right. He felt we really needed to show the T-Rex one more time…that it was what the audience would really want.” And he was right…who can forget that image of the T-Rex exerting his final power over all of the other living things?

The biggest highlight of the evening was being able to ride Jurassic Park the ride. As many times as we have ridden that ride, (and it’s a lot) it never gets old. It’s still the most fun attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood. There was also a bit of nostalgia – this would probably be the last time for us, because Universal Studios Hollywood recently unveiled plans to replace the attraction with a brand new Jurassic World attraction that promises to be even better.  And oh we cannot wait!!

For the final event of the evening, those in attendance were sent via Universal Studios Tram from the lower lot to the AMC Theater at City Walk to watch the film on the big screen, as it was presented in 1993, in all its glory.

And if it’s been 25 years since you’ve seen the film, take my advice and throw in that DVD you’ve had all these years. It’s worth another look because this is one movie that definitely stands the test of time – and it will prepare you to head out to the theater on June 22 for the next great dino-flick,  JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM.

Owen (CHRIS PRATT) meets the vicious T. rex in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.” When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire (BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Welcome to “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.”

Universal Studios Hollywood Announces New “Jurassic World Ride” To Open In 2019

In 2019, colossal, dimensional dinosaurs will once again roam the Earth and astound guests when Universal Studios Hollywood debuts an all-new technologically-advanced epic adventure inspired by Universal Pictures’ blockbuster film franchise: Welcome to the “Jurassic World Ride.”

Drawing from the favorite elements of the original “Jurassic Park—The Ride,” this next-generation thrill ride will be a fully reimagined iteration of the ground-breaking adventure, elevating every facet of the experience. With the introduction of never-before-seen dinosaurs, enhanced storytelling, lush scenic design, an entirely new color scheme and uncompromised state-of the art technology, the ride will capture elements never experienced within a theme park.

To rally fans for the finale of “Jurassic Park—The Ride” on September 3, 2018, Universal Studios Hollywood has launched a “Countdown to the Extinction” campaign—inviting guests from around the world to experience the ride before its transformation into the all-new “Jurassic World Ride” in 2019.

The countdown to the extinction of “Jurassic Park—The Ride” begins as Universal Studios Hollywood excavates the site in preparation for the 2019 arrival of “Jurassic World Ride,” inspired by Universal Pictures’ blockbuster film franchise.

“Jurassic Park—The Ride” will officially become extinct on September 3, 2018.

In 1996, Universal Studios Hollywood redefined theme park thrill rides with the unprecedented introduction of “Jurassic Park—The Ride,” based on three-time Academy Award®winner Steven Spielberg’s epic film.  Hailed as a technological achievement of triumph and wizardry, the ride featured newly debuted principles of hydraulic physics, mechanics and space-age robotics.  Working in partnership with scientists, palaeontologists and aerospace engineers, Universal Creative—the team that develops Universal theme park rides—brought to life one of the most compelling rides ever created. Life-sized and lifelike animatronic dinosaurs, some towering over five-stories high, freely roamed the earth at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Twenty-two years later—and after sending millions of guests back to the Jurassic era for menacing face-to-face encounters with such predators as Stegosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Dilophosaurus, Velociraptors and the Tyrannosaurus rex—“Jurassic Park—The Ride” will become extinct in preparation for a new, next-generation experience that’s even more immersive and technologically advanced.  The new ride will pay homage to Jurassic Park and will reimagine this landmark film franchise for theme park guests.  The Jurassic Cove restaurant and Jurassic Outfitters retail store also will close with the attraction and reopen with the new experience in 2019.

“The one thing that the history of evolution has taught us is that life finds a way” was famously uttered by Jurassic Park’s Dr. Ian Malcom.  In the spirit of this pledge, Universal Studios Hollywood is rallying guests and fans to visit The Entertainment Capital of L.A. as it celebrates this epic ride and prepares for the arrival of the “Jurassic World Ride.”

Plus, in honor of the blockbuster action-adventure that brought dinosaurs out of extinction a quarter century ago, Universal Studios Hollywood in partnership with Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment will host the Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary Celebration on Friday, May 11Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13.

To learn more and to purchase tickets to this highly coveted event, please visit www.UniversalStudiosHollywood.com/JP25.

WAMG Visits The All New Wizarding World Of Harry Potter At Universal Studios Hollywood

20160429_122056

Over the weekend, WAMG visited The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood and we were not disappointed!

From the moment you walk into the theme parks’ latest attraction, you are transported to the magical Diagon Alley and platform 9 and 3/4 at King’s Cross Station in London. Harry Potter fans will instantly recognize the famous Hogwarts Express locomotive and all the shopping any hopeful wizard could want before heading to Hogwarts.

20160429_122217 20160429_122239

Universal Studios Hollywood has done a fantastic job of recreating the most intricate details to wow visitors and die-hards alike. The facades are spectacular and even with the crowds, its easy to forget that you are not actually in another time and place. As you make your way through the alley, there are shops selling everything from wands and spellbooks to Butterbeer and owls. There are also timed performances from the “Frog Choir” – a presentation of songs by a small choir of Hogwarts students and their large croaking frogs!

20160429_122441

But the best of all is the “ride” (if you can call it that…) Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Holy moly, this is the mother of all interactive 3-D attractions. First you have to jump on to the moving seats, which can be a challenge in itself! Once strapped in your seat, 3-D glasses in place, you are whisked away at high speed for a tour of Hogwarts and the surrounding areas. The absolute most thrilling part is that you get to fly in a Quidditch match with Harry himself and the rest of the squad. With seats that keep your legs dangling, the sensation that you are actually flying is unbelievable.

The second ride, Flight of the Hippogriff, is basically a high speed spiral roller-coaster that although ends quickly, its not recommended you eat before riding!

Crowds are at capacity, seeing that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has only been open a couple of weeks, and the upcoming summer season will probably keep it that way for quite awhile. However if you can brave the crowds, or wait til summer is over, it is well worth the trip. We at WAMG highly recommend it!
