We here at WAMG are massive fans of Kevin Smith. Out of all of us, I’m definitely the biggest. Don’t believe me? Here’s the last article I posted on this site – 37 REASONS (in a row) WHY KEVIN SMITH SHOULD PRESENT STUCK LIKE CHUCK. As the title suggests, it is a list of 37 reasons why the new label created by Smodcast Pictures & Phase 4 Films should release my no-budget directorial debut. While caked in self-promotion, the article is fairly light-hearted and actually does offer some insights into the world of indie film. The day after I posted it, I received an email from Phase 4 requesting a screener. Needless to say, I was ecstatic. I immediately sent a DVD their way and have been playing the waiting game since.

And with that bit of backstory established, we can move on to the meat of the article…

Tuesday March 20th marked the release of Kevin Smith’s new book TOUGH SH*T: LIFE ADVICE FROM A FAT LAZY SLOB WHO DID GOOD. Unlike his previous books, this one is not simply a collection of essays, blog posts or transcribed podcasts. TOUGH SH*T is a funny, inspiring and heartfelt autobiography from a man who is already known for being an open book. And with great books, come great signings. Smith is currently in the midst of a 6-city book tour that started in Ridgewood, New Jersey and ends in Chicago on March 30th. I caught up with him on Wednesday at his second stop, New York City.

I arrived at the Union Square Barnes & Noble around 4:20 pm; an ironic time for those who know Smith. The book signing was set to begin at 7 pm and the line was to start forming at 5. I waited on the line that was waiting to get in line. It was less than 30 seconds before I was in the middle of an insanely geeky but utterly fascinating conversation between the people in front and behind me. A bulk of our time was spent trying to guess from memory every Academy Award Best Picture Winner from THE ARTIST to WINGS. The game expanded as more people joined in. Yes, the people that show up to a Kevin Smith signing are just as nerdy as you assumed.

Eventually the time came for Kevin to take the stage. He started by saying there was a fine line between entertainer and being entertained, then read a tweet that someone in the room had sent out just moments earlier.

Waiting for @thatkevinsmith To speak at b&n in union square… If this sucks at least I can go visit the cats at Petco next door – @Snowtreds

Kevin then asked the audience if we wanted to do a straightforward book signing or mostly Q & A. We ended up with roughly 90 minutes of Q & A followed by a signing. I did not know there would be a Q & A, nor did I plan to write this article, so I unfortunately did not take any notes. However, here are some poorly paraphrased highlights I do remember:

Kevin likes that he doesnt go the traditional route when making movies & that he doesnt do whats usually expected. In other words, he considers himself an ass man even when it comes to making movies.

Gayle King (you know, Oprahs best friend) loves TOUGH SH*T & read a vulgar passage out loud to Kevin when he was at a morning show taping.

JERSEY GIRL will always have a special place in his heart, even if only because George Carlin loved his role & his experience on the film.

He doesnt think his version of Green Hornet would not have translated well on the big screen.

Kevin likes to bond with his daughter Harley Quinn through the magic of song. More specifically, the song Joseph Smith American Moses from THE BOOK OF MORMON. Their favorite part, Joseph Smith, dont f*ck the baby

He also gave a brief rundown of the entire play while re-enacting a few moments. He basically called it the greatest piece of art man has ever created. And yes, it was awesome enough to warrant two bullet points.

While drunk on Pink Zinfandel, Kevin got a tattoo of the Mad Hatter because he is always late. When showing Scott Mosier afterwards, Scott reminded him that it is actually the White Rabbit who is always late.

He would love to see a remake of A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS but he is not the one to make it. Ironically, A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS is one of the Best Picture winners that all of us had trouble remembering during our game. Every time he mentioned the movie, our row started laughing.

He told a story about the first book signing he was part of at the Union Square Barnes & Noble. It was for John Piersons book SPIKE, MIKE, SLACKERS & DYKES. Prior to the signing, Michael Moore was talking about how he thought his career was over after CANADIAN BACON flopped. When Michael Moore was called on stage, the room went wild. Afterwards, Moore told Kevin & John that he thinks he might write a book. He witnessed the rebirth of Michael Moore at that signing.

Kevin got a bit teary-eyed when talking about his father & telling a great story about a special way he said good night to his parents. He also talked about how he would get pulled out of school most Wednesdays to go to the movies with his dad. He said these stories were in the book so Ill leave it at that so you can read them yourself.

After being told time was up, Kevin took 2 more questions before launching into the signing. A B&N employee announced that to save time, everyone would get only 1 picture & 1 non-personalized signature on the book cover. Their timesaving techniques were futile though since Kevin loves chatting with his fans. It was hilarious seeing the look of panic on the employee faces when he took over a minute with just one person. The next went up with a cell phone in hand so Kevin could talk with someone they called. Just before it was my turn to walk over, someone told me that he is taking too long and starting with me they want everyone to keep their encounter brief.

Screw that.

I walked over to Kevin, shook his hand, posed for a picture and he signed my book. I was a mess of nerves until I started speaking and a wave of calmness washed over me. I let him know that 6 years ago he gave me some advice that always stuck with me and is probably the single biggest reason why I even attempted to make my first feature film. He raised his hand as if to give me a high-five. I went for it but instead he caught my hand and held it up like a sign of victory. For a man as verbose as Kevin, he didnt have to say anything. Im sure it is a sentiment he hears often but he seemed to genuinely appreciate how much he has inspired me. We then talked a bit about the film, reviews, casting and even touched on my festival experience. I had become THAT guy the people running the event feared most. Finally Kevin asked what my flick was called. I told him STUCK LIKE CHUCK. His eyes widened and he responded, Youre the cat who did STUCK LIKE CHUCK!”

Holy shit. My jaw-dropped. I could barely give him a positive reply. I felt like Jaimie in JINGLE ALL THE WAY.

He knows my film

He said that he heard a little about SLC, mostly on Twitter, and he even saw that 37 Reasons article I posted. I was in complete disbelief. We started discussing the new distribution label and he let me in on how the selection process works. Before I left, I gave him a DVD screener along with some SLC promo materials, just in case. I thanked him again and walked away. At least I think I walked away. I may have floated or skipped. To be honest, I dont really recall any of the trip from the stage to the front of the store.

It is not often that you get the opportunity to personally thank a celebrity for being a major influence on your life. Then again, most celebrities are not like Kevin Smith. And for those of you out there sick of reading my posts about how Kevin Smith has inspired me, TOUGH SH*T.

In 2005 I waited over 5 hours on line in Red Bank, NJ to meet Kevin Smith. Not only did he sign my merch but he also spent a good 30 seconds trying to carefully remove a price sticker from my DVD slipcover. It amazed me that he cared about something so insignificant but it also perfectly illustrated just how much he cares about his fans. This actually calmed my nerves enough to work up the courage to ask Kevin for advice. He offered up a nugget of wisdom that changed my life forever.

Write about stuff that matters to you because it always winds up mattering to someone else. And write cheap.

Those words have been firmly planted in the back of my head ever since. A few years later I began working on my first feature, a no-budget rom-com about college life called STUCK LIKE CHUCK. It played a few festivals, won some awards and received some rave reviews but never saw an official release. When Phase 4 Films & SModcast Pictures announced the creation of a Kevin Smith Presents distribution label, I knew this was the opportunity I have been waiting for. I submitted SLC the day I read the announcement but with thousands of submissions to sift through, it couldnt hurt to stand out. So without further ado, I give you the official trailer for STUCK LIKE CHUCK, followed by 37 reasons why Kevin Smith & Phase 4 should release it!

1. Simply put, SLC wouldnt exist without Kevin Smith. That is not to say that I wouldnt still be making movies but my first effort probably would have been much different.

2. While heavily influenced by Kevin Smith, SLC is not some second-rate CLERKS. ripoff. It is also not a film just for fans of Kevin Smith. It stands on its own.

3. That being said, there are enough View Askew references in the film to make a drinking game out of it.

4. $2,500. That was our total production cost and we proudly wear that budget on our sleeve. In a world of million-dollar indies we truly are the underdog.

5. I hope to inspire people to get off their ass and make a movie much like Kevin Smith has done for me. This would be a pretty damn good way to start.

6. My favorite part of screening SLC is the Q & A that follows. I am not quite the public speaker that Kevin is but I did get an A in Basic Speech Communications in college.

7. B-movie icon Lloyd Kaufman called SLC The best two person conversation since Louis Malles MY DINNER WITH ANDRE. This is probably because he has a hilarious cameo in the film but it just may be that this film is actually a modern masterpiece.

8. Speaking of cameos, I cannot officially confirm that Chris Elliott has a brilliant surprise cameo as the worlds worst film professor but why would I even bring it up if it wasnt true?

9. SLC premiered at the 2009 SINY Film Festival & took home Audience Choice Comedy. Later that year, SLC inspired the creation of the Indie Spirit Award at the Orlando Film Festival. In 2010, the award was renamed the Jerry Cavallaro Indie Spirit Award.

10. I am an open book. Im willing to reveal anything about myself, especially if it is informative or at least makes for a funny anecdote. My two specialties are stories about how to fail in the industry and how my own insecurity sabotages every chance I get of having sex.

11. Related to #10, I am in fact a virgin and this could possibly get me laid. But probably not.

12. Extremely rare for an indie film with such a low budget, SLC features 3 lead actors who can actually act. Our very own Jocelyn DeBoer has even gone on to become a rising star at UCB & CollegeHumor.

13. Similarly, we have a pretty damn good soundtrack featuring bands like Army of Freshman, Alex Goot, Sail By The Stars and the comedy stylings of Stuckey & Murray. All of the music is cleared & used with full permission of the owners.

14. Close to 8 hours of bonus material already exist for the film including 33 minutes of deleted scenes, a Christmas special & a very unique behind the scenes doc that actually runs longer than the film.

15. In addition to our badass trailer above, a series of promo videos also exist including this infomercial-style teaser:

16. Im 23 years old. The same age Kevin Smith broke onto the scene with CLERKS. Coincidence?

17. While the films target audience is the 18-35 demographic, the film has done surprisingly well with older crowds. After one particularly strange screening, an elderly woman told me the film was reminiscent of when her husband was courting her. In case you were wondering, it never gets less weird watching old people laugh at blowjob jokes.

18. The flick is gender neutral. It has traditional rom-com elements but also a lot of raunchy & geeky humor, which makes for a perfect date movie. I like to refer to it as a chick flick for guys.

19. I am a press whore with a degree in shameless self-promotion and no discernible social life.

20. As much as I love press, the press seems to love SLC a little more. Sites like Latino Review, Hollywood.com, Twitch, Cinematical, FilmSnobbery, Movie Cynics & more have all praised the film

21. SLC nametag stickers & jackoff sock door hangers are a huge hit at film festivals and colleges. I also have a custom nametag costume to wear outside of screenings. EVERYONE loves taking pictures with a guy in a dumb costume

22. Unlike most indie comedies, this one is actually funny. No pretentiousness or self-indulgence. The goal is for the audience just to have fun with it.

23. Admit it; STUCK LIKE CHUCK is a damn catchy title.

24. Bobby Bless of MovieCynics.com said, The film manages to outshine any romantic comedy youll see in theaters. So lets take it to theaters!

25. Ive been working the same part time job for over 7 years and this would be a great reason to finally quit.

26. A black and white version exists (and looks pretty damn good) if they decide to push the CLERKS. connection.

27. I had lunch with Bob Hawk once and he said I reminded him of Kevin Smith. He probably doesnt even remember me but I will never forget that comment.

28. All the money for SLC came out of my own pocket so there are no producers to deal with. I own all the rights.

29. I never expected to make much money on this film. I just want people to see it & this is probably the best chance it has to connect with the right audience.

30. I designed all of the novelty shirts Charlie & Rob wear in the film, which means they can be recreated and sold to adoring fans. Merchandising!

31. Speaking of fans, I have nearly 4,000 loyal Twitter followers and at least 10 of them are not porn spam bots.

32. I finished third at the Netflix Movie Watching World Championship by watching movies for 68 hours 21 minutes 31 seconds straight while in a glass house set up in Times Square. We each got to contribute a movie to the list and my pick was CLERKS.

33. A movie that uses Tina Fey as a metaphor for love & features lines such as She definitely wants some Charlie inside her brown deserves to be seen.

34. While the film plays perfectly fine to an audience of one, it is best experienced with a large fun-loving crowd. Ive always been a proponent of audience interaction. At my favorite screening so far, the audience joked around, yelled at the screen and even sang along to the catchy yet insanely raunchy musical number during the end credits.

35. Ive been working my whole life for an opportunity like this and you can be damn sure that I will not mess it up.

36. Im not ashamed to admit that I love JERSEY GIRL. Directors Cut Blu-Ray please. Yes this is filler but give me a break; how could I end this on 36?

37. Because Im a filmmaker who still fucks his art in a Dennys bathroom.

Well there you have it. 37-ish solid reasons why Phase 4 & SModcast Pictures should distribute STUCK LIKE CHUCK. As you can tell from this list, Kevin Smith sort of already presents the film so why not make it official?

Please hit the share buttons below and send this post all over the web. Lets see if we can get this in front of the right people or even Kevin himself. I promise to keep you all updated every step of the way. And for everyone still reading, thank you greatly for checking out what can only be classified as the most shameless display of self-promotion to ever grace this website. It truly does mean the world to me!

As I left the Javits Center tonight, I realized that I did not have anything to eat or drink in nearly 10 hours. That just goes to show you how time seems to get away from you at the New York Comic Con. It also explains why I did not get to do nearly as much as I planned for the day.

I arrived at NYCC about 2 hours after it officially opened and I was off to a good start with absolutely no wait for press check-in. I thought I knew what to expect since I attended (and COVERED) NY Comic Con in 2009. The first thing I realized walking onto the show floor was just how massive this event has become. It has expanded to take up pretty much the entire Javits Center.

Unfortunately, it seems like the film presence at the festival has not increased much. I was surprised by the absence of booths for Fox & After Dark Films, which were two of my favorites in 2009. Most attendees probably do not care though since I know I am in the minority of those who attend the convention mostly for film rather than comics, anime, toys, collectibles & video games. Regardless, I still spent the first 4 hours wandering around the show floor and there are still film booths I need to hit up tomorrow like the one for the indie film, BOY WONDER.

I will do a full photo spread on Sunday with all the incredible costumes. For now, here are a few highlights from the show floor.

Really cool Amazing Spider-Man display as soon as you enter.

Part of the always crowded AVENGERS display.

Legendary Entertainment’s booth is full of awesome props like this one.

Furry Walls!

Around 5 pm, I made my way over to the IGN Theater for the ROBOT CHICKEN panel and waited on what may have been the longest line I have ever been on. But it was worth it. The presentation started with a preview of Season 5.5, which will be hilarious and so very wrong. I dont want to spoil anything but one of my favorite sketches shown can best be described as a mashup of PRECIOUS and ATTACK OF THE 50 FT WOMAN.

The crowd erupted in cheers when they brought out the panelists: Seth Green, Matt Senreich, Geoff Johns, Kevin Shinick, Doug Goldstein, Macaulay Culkin, and Clare Grant. Early on Green warned the crowd that they do no prep for these panels and that they are here to meet the fans and answer questions. One of the very first people to the mic instead said things Id like to see and began describing some sketches. The panel humored him at first but then Seth joked that this was not a pitch session. It was also added that if anyone suggests a sketch to them, they legally cant do it. However, if you are a female writer, the ROBOT CHICKEN team is hiring. Next week they will post a tab on their official FACEBOOK PAGE where female writers can submit material.

Some other highlight from the panel was Seth doing a Peter impression following it up by saying I dont do Peters voice. Please dont tell Seth (MacFarlane) I did that. Someone asked if comedy in the Star Wars universe has been exhausted. Seth said it definitely wasnt and he cannot wait for everyone to see the Star Wars animated series he has been working on. He also added that George and LucasFilm have been pretty f-ing lenient in terms of what they can get away with in sketches. Someone with a Green Lantern logo asked a question and several of the panelists reached over the table to take pictures. One of the final announcements of the panel was that the next ROBOT CHICKEN special will be about DC Comics. Based on the preview, which was edited together using DC Comics sketches already on the show, it will be called RC/DC.

The battery on my camera would never have lasted the full panel but I did get to record this very strange moment after a fan asks Seth Green and Macaulay Culkin to make a sexy pose.

ROBOT CHICKEN season 5 will be out October 25th on DVD & Blu-Ray, and it will include 9 episodes that have not even aired yet. They are also about to launch RobotChicken.com.

Following the panel, I made my way to the TROMA booth in hopes of running into low budget horror icon, Lloyd Kaufman. Lloyd actually made a small cameo in my film STUCK LIKE CHUCK, which you can watch right HERE for free! I ended up hanging out at the Troma booth for the last 40 minutes of the day since our conversation kept getting interrupted by fans that wanted a picture or autograph. (From Lloyd, not me) He will actually be at the booth for most of tomorrow and Sunday so I highly suggest anyone attending to stop by Booth 2007. Lloyd will also be moderating a panel from 1:30 PM 2:30 PM on Saturday for A LIARS AUTOBIOGRAPHY, which is an animated 3D film from EPIX about Graham Chapman from Monty Python.

I could give you some more reasons why you should stop by the Troma booth, but instead Ill leave you with this video of Lloyd telling you himself.

4 years ago, I attended a screening of SUPERBAD the day it came out. Immediately after that screening, I was inspired. The film was a series of long conversations. The story had been done a million times. But it worked because the dialogue was brilliant and everyone could relate to the characters. I have been a fan of CLERKS. & Kevin Smith for years prior to this but something just clicked. It had gone mainstream. So I started thinking about what the simplest idea for a story could be that would showcase the characters and the dialogue. I immediately came up with the age old idea of people stuck in a room. I began to realize that this was actually something I could do so I started working on the idea. A week later I started writing the script. 6 months later we started shooting. A year and a half after that, we premiered at our first film festival and went home with Audience Choice Comedy. And now, exactly 4 years after the idea was born, the film is now available for free online. Watch it. Enjoy it. And get inspired!

If you like the film and would like to help out, you can make a donation of $1 or more right HERE. As a token of appreciation, everyone who contributes will received access to nearly 10 hours of bonus features including deleted scenes, a feature length making of, behind the scenes videos, a commentary track and more. You can also help out by purchasing a t-shirt from DIRECTOR’S CAMEO. Several of the shirts featured in the film are available on that site, as well many more shirts designed specifically for filmmakers, movie geeks & pop culture junkies.

Although I dont get to contribute nearly as much as Id like to, I have been a part of WAMG for almost 3 years now. During that time, one film that I always liked to talk about was STUCK LIKE CHUCK and the reason why is simple. It is an awesome film and I also happen to be the writer & director. In the past, Ive posted stories about new trailers and festival screenings. Our very own Travis Keune even wrote a fantastic (and non-biased) review that you can read RIGHT HERE. But this news is much bigger.

Im very excited to let you all know that starting August 17th, STUCK LIKE CHUCK will be available to watch for free. Free streaming. Free download. FREE. It will launch on StuckLikeChuck.com but the player is embeddable so hopefully it will pop up on websites and blogs all over.

To celebrate the free release, on August 17th I will host 3 separate live-tweets of the film. Just start watching the film at 8 PM, 10 PM or Midnight EST & tweet about it using #LiveChuck. You can also just tweet me anytime (@GetStuck) and Im usually pretty good about responding.

Since no future DVD or Blu-Ray release is planned, I will also be releasing nearly 10 hours of bonus features. This includes a version of the film with audio commentary from myself and Nic Baisley from FilmSnobbery.com, an 88 minute fly on the wall behind the scenes documentary, the original 2 hour rough cut of the film, over 30 minutes of deleted scenes and much more. In order to access all these extras, just make a donation of $1 or more on StuckLikeChuck.com starting August 17th.

Check out our newest teaser trailer below to see what you can expect in less than two weeks

1 year ago I attended the best festival I have ever been to as a filmmaker. All the movies were free. The location was beautiful. The people were amazing. And apparently I inspired them to create an Independent Spirit Award just to give to me.

Well the Orlando Film Festival is back and it kicks off Wednesday November 3rd at the Plaza Cinema Caf in Downtown Orlando. While I wont be screening anything at the festival, I will still be on hand checking out some films and promoting my own. I will also be handing out the Independent Spirit Award, which has been named after me this year.

The festival runs from Wednesday November 3rd through Sunday November 7th. All the film screenings are free but you must get a ticket for each at the booth in front of the theater. The Plaza Cinema Caf is located at 155 South Orange Avenue in the heart of downtown Orlando. If you plan on coming out to the festival, be sure to say hi. Ill be the one wearing a STUCK LIKE CHUCK t-shirt.

The official website for the festival is www.OrlandoFilmFestival.com.

As some of you know, in addition to occasionally contributing to WAMG I am a filmmaker myself. My first feature is a comedy called STUCK LIKE CHUCK, which Travis reviewed last year. Since then, the film has played several festivals and even won a few awards, including Audience Choice Comedy at SINY and an Indie Spirit Award in Orlando. It is set to be released on DVD and digitally at the end of the year but you can get a special signed & numbered official bootleg DVD right now. They are only available until July 31st and all of the money raised will go towards making my next film!

So what is the next film? STUCK LIKE CHUCK TOO. No it is not a sequel but a fictional retelling of my experiences on the festival circuit with my first feature. Think of it as CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM if Larry David was a 21 year old indie filmmaker. STUCK LIKE CHUCK TOO takes a satirical look at film festivals through the eyes of a filmmaker who is in love with his lead actress and struggling to promote his films big premiere. We plan to film it at the Orlando Film Festival this November and a ton of great people are already involved, including indie film icon Lloyd Kaufman and legendary film consultant Bob Hawk.

If you would like to get STUCK LIKE CHUCK on DVD and help get STUCK LIKE CHUCK TOO made, please visit www.IndieGoGo.com/StuckLikeChuckToo before July 31st!

And if you havent seen it yet, here is the trailer for STUCK LIKE CHUCK:

In this scene, Rob (Patrick McColley) makes Charlie (Joe Moran) realize just how much he loves Juliet (Jocelyn DeBoer), by using Tina Fey as an example.

This is not the full scene from the film because I did not want to give too much away, but it does give you a good feel for the film. This clip may also be good luck for Tina Fey (and everyone else with the show) since my film won the Audience Choice Comedy award at the SINY Film festival last month. This is the first time I released an extended clip from the movie so please tell me what you think of it.

And as an added bonus, here is a compilation of some alternate takes from the scene. We had a lot of fun on set and this video shows it. It also shows off Patrick’s awesome improv skills.

If you want to know more about the film, you can read the synopsis below or watch the trailer & other promo videos at www.AreYouStuckLikeChuck.com.

‘STUCK LIKE CHUCK’ is a romantic comedy about friendship, love, college and the awkward situations that bring them all together. Charlie is a student filmmaker. Juliet is a hot film geek. Rob is just awesome. Since Charlie is a wreck when talking to Juliet outside of class, Rob locks the two of them in their Film-201 classroom for the night. Pop culture is dissected, life is observed and love spends the night in.

I’ve failed you Movie Geeks. Before this year’s festival even kicked off, I accomplished the feat of throwing the worst Tribeca party of the year, and probably ever. I know I can claim it wasn’t a Tribeca party since it was before the festival but I will just own up to my failure. It’s actually a funny story, or so I am told.Â

On March 30th, I received confirmation that I had successfully booked the 11th Floor Auditorium of my school for a special screening of Stuck Like Chuck on Tuesday April 21st. By the end of that week, I spoke with Scott and turned it into the official WAMG Pre-Tribeca party. I spoke to a friend of mine about getting me some pizza from his Dad’s pizzeria at cost. (When making the film, we got 3 delicious pies for $10 total!) I started sending out invites and when I found out one of the bands from the film was in the area for a tour, I booked them to open the night. So what happened?Â

A few days prior, my friend told me he would not be able to provide the pizzas at cost because of the place would be to busy at that time. Since the pizzeria is 30 blocks from my school, I decided to just use a local place since paying full price made it no longer worth it to go pick up the pizza. (Anyone in NY reading this, I still 100% recommend Pronto Pizza at 376 West 36th Street) The pizza issue was later resolved but that should have been my first inclination of trouble.Â

The afternoon of the Party, I spoke with the band and found out their van was having some trouble. Apparently, they were calling from a garage and they had to pay $2,000 to fix it. They may still be able to come at that point but it was unlikely. I tell them to keep me updated. A few hours later, I get the call that the band definitely won’t make it. (Anyone anywhere reading this, I still 100% recommend The Scenic at www.myspace.com/thescenic)Â

I get to the school at 6 pm. The party starts at 7 and now with no band, there is a lot less to set up. Unfortunately, I am halted by security because they had to confirm the event. I thought, much like my first screening, someone running the floor forgot to contact the front desk. I was so very wrong. There are a few guys that run the 11th floor, the auditorium and all of the equipment for it and they all went home for the night.Â

According to them, despite a confirmation email that I showed the security guard, I had not booked the room. On top of that, the room was booked by the school’s choir. “But our school does not have a choir.†Apparently, it’s new. Oh, and while it is technically booked for them, it is no being used. It is a practice night in case any student wants to sing, they are free to go into the auditorium and sing. In addition, all the projection equipment is locked in the main office of the floor and no one has the key.Â

After running back and forth between the school’s 2 buildings, it was now 7 o’clock and guests were arriving. My dad and 2 friends were there to help me so they were stationed on the 11th floor while I ran around the school with the security guard and someone from the Comm Arts department. I used the stairs for one of the buildings since apparently there was a problem with the elevators, and there were actually students stuck in one of them.

At 7:10, I was told to go through every floor of the school until I can find an empty classroom and set up there. At 7:25, I finally find an unused room and lucky me, it had a projector/screen set up with enough space for 50 or so people. I was told I could use it but there may be an 8:10 class there so we had till 8:10. I was also told that a working portable projector was located but there was no screen for it.

I ran up the stairs, spewing a string of profanities at how much I hate my school. Out of breath, I open the doors to the 11th Floor waiting area/art gallery to reveal about 15 guests, including my dad, the 2 friends, the cast of Stuck Like Chuck, their guests, and 3 of the people on my guest list. The day before I had about 50 confirmed guests and 20-something maybes; some of which were bringing multiple guests. I asked if some people left and they did not. Although one guest, an actor I met on Twitter, was getting ready to leave because he had another event and only came to stop by. I wish I could have left also.

While waiting to hear back from the guy at the Comm Arts department, I started snooping around the tiny conference room/storage space. I found a screen with some minor marks on it but it would do. I had them rush over the projector, a DVD player and speakers. We were all ready to set up when I was told we still couldn’t use the auditorium. Despite being empty, it was reserved for our imaginary choir. After some discussion, we set up in the hallway next to the auditorium. We did however take the chairs from the auditorium and put them in the hall so that people did not have to sit on the floor in our makeshift theater. (Take that imaginary choir) After it was all set up and ready to go, I find out that the lights cannot be shut.

About 8 pm, I make a little speech and the film screens on a shoddy projector with crappy speakers in a cramped well lit hallway next to a perfectly empty auditorium. 86 minutes of laughter and emotional discovery later, the film ends to a standing ovation. Well, people clapped as they stood up to get some pizza but I’m counting it. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the film. I got the always popular “I did not expect this to be good at all but I actually really loved it†from a few people. The mingling ended about 20 minutes later when everyone left. Yes, the “party†started 1 hour late and ended 10 minutes early. With everyone gone, I went to enjoy some pizza. There were 2 very small, very cold slices left. At least they were good.

Here is a depressing picture from the party:

Special Thanks (and apologies) to Dave Gonzales (@Da7e), Todd Terwilliger (@CriticalTodd) and Gary Betsworth (@GaryBetsworth) for coming.

You Are Cordially Invited To The Completely Informal WeAreMovieGeeks.com Pre-Tribeca Party!
A little over 6 months ago I lost out on $10,000 by placing third in the Netflix Movie Watching World Championship. Little did I know that a few days later, I would become the biggest winner of the competition because my little stunt led me to this gig writing for WAMG.

When I realized that a private screening of my film was set for the day before Tribeca, I decided to change it into a Pre-Tribeca bash for my fellow movie geeks. I am inviting several filmmakers/actors whose films are at Tribeca, as well as my fellow film bloggers and all the amazing PR reps that helped me bring awesome movie coverage to this site. I will also be giving away a few pairs of tickets to some lucky NY readers.

Here are the event detailsâ€

I don’t want to become a publicity whore by constantly posting Stuck Like Chuck news on here so I will keep this short. This morning I received an email from the SINY Film Festival congratulating me on my acceptance into their festival. This means that the world premiere of Stuck Like Chuck will take place this June. I’m really excited; I can’t wait to screen my film in front of a (hopefully) large audience. If you haven’t seen it yet, here is our official trailer.

I hope all you NY Movie Geeks can come check it out. I’ll be sure to post more details on here as they come in but I also promise to keep up with the reviews, interviews and videos that you’ve all come to love and expect from me. In fact, I’ll be posting my review of Miss March in a few hours.

In the tradition of Star Wars, I destroyed all copies of my original trailer and rereleased it with only a minor change that didn’t bother most people to begin with. Â Since CGI is not in my budget, I did the next best thing. I added much better music from some of the awesome bands in my film and uploaded a higher quality video. Whether you already watched the first version or you’ve yet to be Chuck’d, check out the official Stuck Like Chuck trailer below.

It is an honor for me to get to personally premiere the rerelease of my trailer on this site. I have had so much fun writing and making videos for you guys these last 6 months and I look forward to being a part of this site for a long time. Please let me know what you think of the trailer and please pass it along to your friends and family.
A year ago I decided that I wanted to be different in my advertising of Stuck Like Chuck, particularly in the videos I released. So rather than release an actual trailer, I released a series of promo videos that often used behind the scenes footage, alternate takes, bloopers or footage shot just for the video. While people seemed to like the videos, I also got numerous complaints from people who wanted to see a trailer, one with actual footage from the film in it. Well to all 12 of you who are actually interested, here is the first “official†trailer for Stuck Like Chuck.

It is really an honor to get to personally premiere my trailer on WAMG and I am so glad to finally get it out there. I am very proud of this film and I can’t wait to start screening it soon. Please let me know what you think of the trailer and please pass it along to your friends and family.
I hope you’re all enjoying Scott’s video blogs from Sundance. If you’re like me, you are probably growing more and more jealous of him with each blog he posts. Instead of attending Sundance, I am stuck in New York, which I hear is currently colder than Park City. At least I have been getting some writing done. I also recently completed a video of my own. This month’s promo video for Stuck Like Chuck went up this past weekend.

The video is our submission to the Academy for nomination in the category for Best Original Screenplay. Regardless of the fact that the film has not yet been released, has no affiliation with the Academy or any other unions, and nominations have already been cast, I still thought I’d give it a shot. For Your Considerationâ€

The holiday season is upon us and that of course means time for Christmas movies and tv specials. We just posted a list of some of our favorites that you can check out here. To help promote Stuck Like Chuck, this month’s video is our very own Christmas special. It is made from a scene cut from the film, as well as some additional footage. In the video, Charlie and Juliet encounter a VERY jolly toy santa and discuss the existence of ghosts, God and the stupidity behind Christmas movies. Enjoy!

And as an extra special treat, I have another video for all of you. Recently, Moviefone, Youtube and Sundance held a contest where people had to make a short film about anything, as long as they incorporated a red telephone and 2 out of 25 indie movie related props. I obviously entered, and unfortunately did not get in the top 10, which will be announced on Saturday. If I had more time and a bigger budget (and some actors instead of some friends) I think the video would have been much better but I am still happy with it. The film is a dark comedy about a guy who decides to right the wrong when a psychic tells him he has less than 24 hours to live. Keep an eye out for a very special movie geeks reference in it. Enjoy!

Â
Let me know what you think of the videos. Everyone have a Merry Christmas, a Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
