18 months ago Dan Fogler broke the news to us about his new film DON PEYOTE. 6 months ago he gave us a little update. Last week I finally got to see it. Well, most of it. The film is currently unfinished with 10 shooting days left and a handful of special effects that need to be added. For obvious reasons, this should not be considered a review of the film.

DON PEYOTE tells the story Warren Allman (played by Fogler), an unemployed stoner who finally finds a purpose in life after an unpleasant encounter with a homeless man preaching the end is near. Fueled by vivid apocalyptic dreams, Warren becomes obsessed with 2012 doomsday theories and decides to make a documentary on the subject while his fiancé is busy planning their wedding.

The film expertly weaves together a narrative storyline, Warren’s increasingly bizarre dream sequences and documentary footage. Many of the documentary elements are real interviews with people like Daniel Pinchbeck with Fogler in character. There are also some staged interviews such as Warren interviewing his friend’s drug dealer, played perfectly by Jay Baruchel in a quick cameo. Speaking of cameos, Anne Hathaway & Wallace Shawn both pop in for funny but all too short roles.

The brilliance of the film is that no matter how ridiculous the theories are, every character plays it straight so it is up to the audience to either laugh at or embrace the ideas presented on screen. Personally, I laughed. So did most of the audience. There are some absolutely hysterical scenes starting off with the opening sequence. I cannot wait to see it with the special effects added in because it is a truly unique and hilarious way to kick off this film.

Fogler likes to call his directorial debut HYSTERICAL PYSCHO “rock n’ roll Hitchcock on acid” which is a fairly accurate description. If he wants to continue the same motif for DON PEYOTE, I’d like to suggest “rock n’ roll Woody Allen.” Hopefully things come together quickly for this film because it will be a juggernaut on the festival circuit when it is finally finished.

After watching the newest trailer for ‘Terminator Salvation’ for about the 18th time, I recalled that the ending for the film had been leaked online (AICN to be precise) at some point last year. Â  It came to me like a rejected memory, something from my childhood that I wanted to forget but could never do. Â  I didn’t mind the ending they had planned, and, in fact, it went along pretty nicely with the dark tone the trailer was leading me to believe the film had taken.

Well, that was then. Â  This is now. Â  Because of that leak last year, Warner Bros. decided to pull a little switcheroo and has opted for a different ending altogether. Â  A source from WB revealed this on Saturday to Clint over at Moviehole. Â  The source claims to have seen the film and that there had been some big changes to the film over the past few months.

“The ending doesn’t resemble the previous one in any shape or form.”

Clint says that, strangely enough, it was Seth Rogen who made mention to him before anyone else that WB was planning a change and that they were “as red as Daredevil” about the original ending being leaked. Â  The new ending, according to the WB source, is “A complete [180] from the original film. Works better. Probably not as hard to swallow. Real good though.”

We will all find out what this new ending is come May 21st when ‘Terminator Salvation’ comes out.

Alex Litel’s Lackluster Emporium has scoped out some interesting information.   He claims to have stumbled onto a copyright preregistration for ‘Shrek Goes Fourth’ that reveals the film’s synopsis.

Here’s what he found:

After challenging an evil dragon, rescuing a beautiful princess and saving your in-laws’ kingdom, what’s an ogre to do? Well, if you’re Shrek, you suddenly wind up a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, a reluctant Shrek now agrees to autograph pitch forks. What’s happened to this ogre’s roar? Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre,” Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumplestiltskin. Shrek suddenly finds himself in a in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumplestiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all he’s done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.

Is this the real synopsis for the film?   Is it just a false synopsis to leak out to the public?   Is it completely made up?   It certainly sounds like an interesting direction to take the series in, and, after the abysmal ‘Shrek the Third’, the franchise needs a shot of something to keep it alive.

Okay, so yesterday we brought you news that a rumor of an upcoming ‘Superman’ flick had been shot down.   Today, we bring you yet another bit of information about the next film in the series.

Over at SlashFilm, they got themselves into a password-protected Company website for Legendary Pictures.   This site lists titles of upcoming films, and here is something they found out there:

There you have it.   Take this for what it’s worth.   Just because they have a title doesn’t mean there is anything set in stone as far as pre-production goes.   However, with this information out there now, it may not be too long before we get some kind of official announcement.   Of course, we’ll keep you up to date on everything we hear.

Kevin Smith hinted at having watched ‘Star Trek’ when he was doing an interview on KROQ… check out a snippit below:

Host: So thumbs up on The Watchmen, what else you got?

Smith: I saw a movie last night that I cannot talk about.

Host: Was it good?

Smith: It was phenomenal.

Host: Any stars, any break out stars, and do they trek?

Smith: The stars absolutely trek in this film. It is fantastic. Anybody who was worried doesn’t need to be worried–about this film I cannot talk about†¦It was in very capable hands. The director did a phenomenal job–the director and his crew. Top notch cast and the guy that plays the lead is an instant star. That dude is going to be so famous. He is so wonderful. He picked up a role that I would say is pretty challenging for someone to step into the shoes of, because it is a role that has been played before many times by the same guy.

So there you have it, Kevin Smith gives it the 2 thumbs up, which means from a geek stand points it should be amazing.

  

Hope you like hunting, because it seems like the powers that be are busy taking those comic-con clips down just as fast as they are going up.

The ‘Wolverine’ clip was way better than I expected. Actually, it was way way better. How awesome does Liev Schreiber look as Sabretooth? And that little glimpse of Gambit… could this movie be the the kickass surprise that Wolverine fans have been hoping for? Might just be.

‘Tron 2,’ or ‘TR2N,’ was a complete WTF moment for me. I completely forgot this movie was even happening. I mean, there’s been talk of a ‘Tron’ sequel for, well, since forever. The trailer – even in bootleg “assvision” – looks pretty damn cool. Plus, they got Jeff Bridges to reprise his role from the original. Now, I would usually be really wary of a sequel nearly thirty years late, but color me excited. To quote a friend’s text message concerning the matter: “Luks fugn rad”

Luks fugn rad, indeed.

Is this the new Enterprise pre tell?

Saturday I got an email from Warner Brothers asking me to remove the photo of Heath Ledger in a military uniform. We removed the picture, but I am wondering if this is part of the viral marketing they have been lashing out on everyone as of late. Oh well … its gone either way.

A french website has scored some pictures of The Joker from the new Batman Flick.
