KODAK JOINS UNIVERSAL PICTURES AND ILLUMINATION ENTERTAINMENT TO LAUNCH NATIONAL INTEGRATED INITIATIVE IN SUPPORT OF UPCOMING LIVE ACTION/CG-ANIMATED COMEDY HOP
 
KODAK Picture Kiosks to Feature Hop-Themed Content Through May

Rochester, NY, March 31, 2011 — Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE: EK), a world leader in photo systems and inventor of the photo kiosk category, announced today that it will participate in Universal Pictures’ multimillion dollar integrated marketing and advertising initiative in support of  HOP. The live action/CG-animated comedy is the new release from Illumination Entertainment that follows last year’s blockbuster DESPICABLE ME. The film opens April 1, 2011.

Starting next week Kodak will be launching a HOP themed contest on the Kodak Facebook page and a HOP sweepstakes on Twitter. Starting Monday April 4th and running until April 20th, fans can upload their favorite family photo into a KODAK Picture Kiosk Hop border on Kodak’s Facebook page to receive a coupon for 10 free (4×6) prints with the purchase of 10 (4×6) prints and a chance to win the KODAK – HOP Ultimate Gift Basket featuring two-movie tickets a month for a year and the new KODAK EASYSHARE MINI camera).

Today’s announcement brings Kodak’s collaboration with Universal Pictures into the spotlight. The live-action portions of Hop were captured by cinematographer Peter Lyons Collister, ASC, on KODAK VISION3 500T Color Negative Film 5219. The final prints were made on the new KODAK VISION3 Color Digital Intermediate Film 2254.

With millions of memories made during the spring holiday every year, Kodak’s Retail Systems Solutions (RSS) and Entertainment Imaging (EI) groups will team with Universal Pictures to promote the Easter movie through broadcast media, point-of-sale marketing and exclusive content offerings, which include Hop-themed bordered prints, photo books and collectors prints on KODAK Picture Kiosks across the country.

How do you get 500 Pirates fans and the press to Anaheim at 6am on a Monday morning? Yeah, I know that headline is a little cryptic, but it’s apropos.Ă‚   Word came down over the weekend from an advanced screening of ‘Wolverine’ that the film may have different endings depending on where you see it.Ă‚   According to director Gavin Hood, who introduced the film on the 20th Century Fox lot on Friday, Fox and Marvel have hidden multiple endings on different prints of the film.Ă‚   Different theaters may have different endings of the film.

Of course, the different endings aren’t going to have major variances of each other.Ă‚   The differences might be extremely slight and will more than likely not alter what occurs in the story whatsoever.

The last time a studio did something like this was with the 1985 release of ‘Clue,’ the comedy adapted from the popular board game.Ă‚   Three different endings with three different murderer reveals were shot and released randomly in theaters.Ă‚   Once released on video, however, all three endings were included.

‘Borat’ was so 2006. Ă‚  Indeed. Ă‚  

The overall design of the poster is nothing to brag about. Ă‚  There really isn’t any way of selling this film with one, single image (unless it’s the black and white pic of Burno holding the black baby that you can find right here). Ă‚  However, it’s the little intricacies that make this poster so ingenious. Ă‚  From that ingenious tagline that makes us think Bruno and Borat might have some kind of conflict amongst them, to the sporadic usage of the umlaut, to the fact that you have to go to www.meinspace.com/bruno, this poster is loaded with hilarious little Easter eggs.

The newest installment in the ‘Star Trek’ franchise is on it’s way, thanks to sci-fi fanboy and producer/director J.J. Abrams. Just in case no one has heard about the new movie, a massive marketing campaign is under way to ensure not a single person ends up asking “wait, there is a new Star Trek movie?”

You’ve already seen the trailers and TV commercials, but keep an eye out for Star Trek to appear on virtually every facet of you daily life. An estimated $50 million marketing partnership will be unveiled featuring some well-known advertising icons that have been Trekked Out.

Included in these icons are Kellogg’s Tony the Tiger, Burger King’s freaky King mascot and Erin from Esurance, all of whom will appear in Star Trek themes advertising. Tony the Tiger, for example, will be throwing up “Live Long and Prosper” signs and Kelloggs will be placing beam-up badges into boxes of cereal, including Apple Jacks and Fruit Loops. There’s even going to be limited edition boxes of cereal containing Starfleet insignia-shaped marshmallows. Good luck getting your hands on these however, as I predict Trekkies will be buying them in droves, never to be opened.

Burger King, along with cellular giants Verizon and Nokia, have shot commercials and are using actual sets and crew members from the movie. Burger King will obviously be venturing into marketing territory in it’s restaurants with movie-themed cups, toys and kid’s meals. Esurance will sponsor a ‘Star Trek’ movie night at AT&T Park for a San Fransisco Giants game as well as other sporting events.

Who knows what else will pop up? Kelloggs is going to be one of the most visible partners. They are also planning in-store displays of movie-themed packages for popular items including Pop Tarts, Eggo Waffles, Cheez-Its and Keebler Cookies, featuring sweepstakes, swag giveaways and movie ticket offers.

So, prepare yourself for Trek-overdose as we venture closer to it’s release in theaters on May 7/8, 2009. I’ve already predicted that ‘Star Trek’ will be the biggest grossing movie of the summer and it appears Paramount and their marketing partners are banking on that.

As part of a crossover promotion between Discover and Universal Pictures, Will Ferrell, who is appearing in Universal’s ‘Land of the Lost’ later this Summer, will be making an appearance on Discovery Channel’s “Man Vs. Wild.”Ă‚   Discovery made the announcement today at its upfront presenation in Los Angeles.

The episode, which will air in early June and has already filmed, will feature Ferrell joining Bear Grylls in northern Sweden.Ă‚   The two spend 48 hours in the wild trying to keep warm, improvising snow shoes and drinking their own urine.Ă‚   The two also share in a meal of reindeer eyeballs.

Ferrell referred to the journey as a “a thrill of a lifetime, even though I did get urine-drunk, which is sad.†ť

“Will did an amazing job in sub-zero very unforgiving conditions,†ť Grylls said. “He trusted me when it mattered and we survived… He should be very proud of how he performed.†ť

‘Lands of the Lost’ comes out on June 5th.

Still not seeing what I’m seeing? How about now?

That’s right, folks.Ă‚   I guess ‘Terminator Salvation’ is officially the same rating as ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.’Ă‚   We have speculated for months whether McG’s new ‘Terminator’ would be getting the PG-13 treatment or if Warner would actually have some balls when it came to this film.Ă‚   I guess commercialism won out, and it takes Pizza Hut to finally tell us the truth.

Regardless, the trailer for ‘Terminator Salvation’ is such that I am still excited for the film.Ă‚   Even though it’s not going to be a hard R, as we would all like in our ‘Terminator’ film, it still looks like it is going to be dark and serious.Ă‚   It just would be nice to know there were no limits to the film.

That last one from Spain is really sweet, and I’ll be very surprised if we don’t see that one popping up here in the states sometime soon. Ă‚  I always hold an appreciation for posters that don’t try to capture the entire film in their visuals but simply show you a small snippet of a very important scene. Ă‚  Kind of like the classic poster for ‘The French Connection.’

So, your questions about whether Megatron would be back (and what he would like like) are now answered… mostly. These front and back photos of the new action figure reveal the character’s design, minus his face/head, which has been “censored”. Not really much change… except, maybe a bigger gun?

The back of the packaging reveals some of the plot:

Rebuilt with parts cannibalized from other Decepticons, Megatron rises once again to lead his army. Though the Allspark destroyed him once, he can now feel its power coursing through his circuitry. It calls him to seize his rightful place as ruler over the puny planet on which he was imprisoned and destroyed, and from which he will launch his conquest of the Universe. Optimus Prime is all that stands between him and victory, and the Autobots Leader has done a poor job of hiding himself. Our homies at Film School Rejects found the above photo of the Deadpool action figure from ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ and we are wondering what the heck is going on! That isn’t Deadpool!

In all of the comic books Deadpool resembles a Ninja, wearing full body suit due to being disfigured by the regenerative “healing factor”Ă‚   that was given to him by Weapon X. As you can see from the above photo he sports swords and guns but not taped blades on his hands like you can see from the action figure.

I really hope that they didn’t just completely screw up the Deadpool character, as his is one of my favorites from ‘X-Men’. This is very disheartening if the action figure is any type of representation of the movie version.

In a nice and original marketing move, Organic Coffee Cartel is selling 10,000 cans of Night Owl Dark Roast, a 100% organic specialty coffee.

Infamous German b-movie filmmaker Uwe Boll has discovered a new method for financing his movies. Boll will go to the Internet to enlist “co-producers” on his next movie called ‘Blackout’. Each “investor” would make a contribution of $49 (33 euros).

‘Blackout’ is a terrorist disaster movie, making it the second with a terrorist-theme. Boll hopes to attain a budget of $18.5 million, which he plans to obtain in $50 increments from his fans. [Does he have this many fans?] Contributions can be made on the website at TheBlackoutFilm.com, which will launch on March 31, 2009.

Any “co-producers” who do offer their financial support are promised a special Limited Edition DVD, plus will have a chance to win a visit to the set. So, what happens if he doesn’t get the amount of money he wants?

If the planned budget is not reached by then, but at least 43% of the desired cash has been collected, Boll may elect to make the movie with a smaller budget. If not, he says he will return most of the cash to investors. The site claims that at least 27 euros ($40) from each payment will be returned should the film not get made. — HR

Uwe Boll is currently making his apocalyptic thriller called ‘The Storm’ starring Lauren Holly and Luke Perry. This concept of financing a movie through fan contributions is nothing new. Filmmaker Charles Band has been doing this already with his (much cooler) line of genre films. What do you think? Will Boll get the funding he wants, or will he have to settle? What better way to cap off a weekend roadtrip to Chi-town to see ‘The Dark Knight’ at the Navy Pier IMAX than to also hit the Chicago Auto Show. Ă‚  At this year’s Auto Show, General Motors used the stage to show off five Chevrolet cars that are playing important roles in the upcoming ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’.

Let’s get to the pictures:

First up was the Chevy Volt, which will be playing the part of Jolt in the film. Ă‚  Chevy offered a view of the car as is:

…and how the car/Jolt will look in the film.

Also on hand were subcompacts Chevy Beat and Chevy Trax, which will be playing Skids…

…and Mudflap.

The Chevy Camaro, which serves as Bumblebee in car form, was also on hand.

Bumblebee in robot form, all 17 feet of him, was also on hand to work security for the night.

I’m really not that big. Ă‚  Bumlebee is just about 12 miles back. Ă‚  It’s called “perspective”, folks!

The creme de la creme, however, was the Corvette Stingray Concept. Ă‚  This sweetness of a car will be playing Sideswipe in the film.

Yeah, I know there are a lot of pictures of the Stingray, but it’s hard to stop shooting something so pretty and shiny. Ă‚  GMĂ‚  says the Stingray Concept is simply a design exercise and isn’t indicative of a future model. Ă‚  That sucks. Ă‚  Middle-aged men all over the world would give up golfing for a chance to own one of these babies.

GM has also launched a site where you can sign up to get updates about Chevy vehicles and ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’.

The film comes out on June 24th.

That sweet looking car you see above is the new Stingray Corvette Concept, which will be playing the character of Sideswipe in the upcoming ‘Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen’.

In fact, the Chevy booth at the Chicago AutoShow this weekend is going to be devoted to the characters from the film.Ă‚   Dubbed “Autobots With Bow Ties” (referring to Chevy’s logo), the booth will include the production version of the 2010 Camaro as Bumblebee; the all-electric Volt, bowing in 2011, as Jolt; and small car concepts the Beat (to go into production as the Spark in 2011) and Trax as the twins Skids and Mudflap.

“Chevrolet is thrilled to again be part of one of the most anticipated movies in years,” said Ed Peper, GM North America vice president, Chevrolet. “‘Transformers’ gives us a great opportunity to connect with young people on their terms, with a dynamic, environmentally friendly image. The new characters represent the change going on in Chevy showrooms. From the exciting Camaro, the 21st century sports car, to the game-changing Volt, there’s more than meets the eye at Chevrolet today.”

“‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ goes way beyond the first film in terms of robot action and excitement,” said LeeAnne Stables, executive vice president of worldwide marketing partnerships at Paramount Pictures, the distributor of the film. “The new AUTOBOTS add to the storytelling, and these Chevy vehicles went with our filmmakers to locations all around the world. GM has again provided incredible support to the production team working on the movie.”

The Fox network is given us a slightly late Valentine’s Day gift starting this Sunday.Ă‚   Three 60-second spots are being shown on Fox that, when strewn together, form one, complete narrative.

The first spot will air Sunday, Feb. 15 during “Family Guy” (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT); the second on Monday, Feb. 16 during “House” (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT); and the third will air Tuesday, Feb. 17 during “American Idol” (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on Fox.

Following Tuesday night’s clip, all three will be released to Yahoo!

This is a pretty cool way to promote the film, as well as a good way for Fox to get people to watch their shows.Ă‚   Not that any of these three shows have any ratings problems, but I don’t watch “House” or “American Idol”, and, now, I’ll be sure to set these episodes up on my Tivo.
