Sean Combs and Rose Byrne have joined the cast of the Judd Apatow produced ‘Get Him to the Greek,’ the pseudo-sequel/spinoff from last year’s ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall.’ Elizabeth Moss has also joined the cast which stars Jonah Hill and Russell Brand.

Written and directed by Nicholas Stoller (‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’), the film follows an intern (Hill) of a record label who becomes the handler for an out-of-control rocker (Brand). Ă‚  The goal is to get the rocker from London to his gig in LA’s Greek Theatre. Ă‚  I’m sure road-trip hilarity ensues.

Combs will be playing the head of the record label, big stretch, and Byrne will play Brand’s ex-girlfriend, a Courtney Love-type rocker herself. Ă‚  Moss, who can currently be seen in “Mad Men,” will be playing Hill’s girlfriend, who I’m sure will be getting a whole lot of phone time with Hill.

Brand is playing Aldous Snow, the same character he played in ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall.’ Ă‚  The film also features Emily Blunt as well as appearances by Katy Perry, Pink, and Dee Snider.

‘Get Him to the Greek’ is set for release some time in April of next year.

Yeah, that’s right. Ă‚  ’Year One’ was rated R for about a minute and a half until director Harold Ramis and producer Judd Apatow made the appropriate cuts to appease the MPAA. Ă‚  All in all, I’d say this is a good thing. Ă‚  It’s not like the film was going to feel like an R-rated comedy in the least anyway. Ă‚  They may as well go for the bank and make it a little more kid-friendly.

On Tuesday, the MPAA upheld the R rating the film initally got, despite personal appeals by Apatow and Ramis. Ă‚  At first, it seemed like the filmmakers were going to roll with the R, but, today, word came down that they had made the cuts suggested by the ratings board.

‘Year One’ comes out on June 19th.

Evidently, Judd Apatow doesn’t have the Spielberg clout when it comes to schmoozing the MPAA on his ratings. Ă‚  Word came down last week that ‘Year One,’ the Apatow-produced, Harold Ramis-directed, caveman comedy starring Jack Black and Michael Cera had acquired an R-rating from the MPAA. Ă‚  This happens more often than you think, but the MPAA generally acquiesces after an appeal or after some minor cuts to the film.

Apatow and Ramis both personally appeared before the MPAA this week to argue against the R-rating. Ă‚  However, the MPAA stood their ground, and Apatow and Ramis are accepting it. Ă‚  ’Year One’ will be released as a R-rated film, the rating being forĂ‚  ”some sexual content and language.”

Now, this is a good thing, and it’s a bad thing if you read between the lines. Ă‚  It’s good that an R-rated comedy is coming out. Ă‚  We’ve had a lot of those over the past couple of years, but filmmakers shouldn’t fear the age-appropriate nature of some of their films. Ă‚  Apatow knows this all too well. Ă‚  His R-rated comedies are making him a ment. Ă‚  So, it’s okay that ‘Year One’ has this rating. Ă‚  It more than likely won’t make any less money than it would have despite.

What isn’t so great about this is the fact that they were clearly trying to get a PG-13 rating attached to the film. Ă‚  That tells me that ‘Year One’ wasn’t a film “going for the R,” it just happened to have enough bad elements to it that made the MPAA think that’s what it deserved.

I guess we’ll see for sure when ‘Year One’ comes out on June 19th.

On a side note, and I’m sure you get these questions a lot, so I apologize in advance… Ghostbusters 3? I’ve heard that the writers of the Office are currently penning a script? This is the first word we’ve had in a long while about the ongoing production/pre-production of the latest ‘Ghostbusters’ film.Ă‚   Last we heard, way back in September, Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg were working on the screenplay with Judd Apatow co-producing.

Who knows if this latest announcement is, indeed, an indication of progress on the project.Ă‚   Aykroyd could just be rolling on pure hope these days.

Devin Faraci over at CHUD.com managed to strike up a conversation with Bill Hader (Adventureland) while at Sundance and Hader spilled some beans about a project he and SNL writer Simon Rich have been working on. Apparently, the twosome has written a screenplay for a slasher flick, especially for Judd Apatow.

Here’s what Bill Hader had to say during their conversation:

What would an Apatow-produced slasher film from Rich and Hader be like? Says Bill: ‘It’s partially Straw Dogs meets Halloween meets Home Alone meets Monster Squad.’ It’s hard to argue against that.

‘I don’t know if it’s even going to get made,’ Hader told me. ‘Judd met with us and said “I want to do a horror movie with you. I want to see you in a slasher movie.”‘

The film will be a horror comedy, and while Hader danced around giving away too much, he did describe it to me like this: ‘It is definitely about guys nowadays, that idea that you watch fucked up shit on TV, how violence in our culture – this sounds really hoity toity – you watch fucked up reality shows, I love true crime shows. The idea of that thing coming to your house, and what do you do? I would shit my pants. That’s basically what the movie is about. What if that guy decided to come to your house? What would you and your dipshit friends do about it?’

Here is the first photo still of the newest Judd Apatow film ‘Funny People’. This is the third film that this funny man has directed and in an interview said that for this film he wants to make a serious film that will still make you laugh till you can’t anymore. As you can see, the movie stars an all-star cast of Adam Sandler, Leslie Mann, Seth Rogan and Eric Bana. The movie drops in theaters July 31st.

There is no official synopsis yet, but ‘Funny People’ takes place in the world of stand-up comedy. The story centers on a particular comedian who had a near-death experience. It is being report that Eric Bana is going to try his hand at the new Apatow comedy about stand up comics … I want to be the first to say this is a BAD idea. I have a rough time watching your action/drama movies, I have no idea how I am going to make it through a comedy of yours, unless there is a GREAT supporting cast. Thankfully it will be an Apatow movie so the supporting cast will definitely be there. Maybe the comedy will be about a guy who absolutely cannot do comedy, which will make it funny? I know, I know he started out as a comic, but … that was a long time ago and it obviously didn’t work out very well for him.

Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen have revealed some details about their upcoming drama/comedy, which will be directed by Judd Apatow (Knocked Up).

“[The plot will center on] stand-up comedians,” Rogen told MTV News, calling the setup “hilarious by default.”

Since Sandler hasn’t visited a comedy club in years, he is not too happy about having to revisit that part of his career. “I’ve got to write an act again. It’s been a long time. I haven’t done stand-up in, like, 10 years. Even more,” Sandler said. “That’s why I want to kill Judd Apatow right now. I was so much happier doing nothing!”

According to Sandler, he will be heading back to the comedy clubs this summer to prepare for the role. “You will see me bomb for 15 minutes and walk off [the stage] and punch Judd,” Sandler joked.

But while the two main characters are both comics, the overarching tone of the movie won’t be entirely comical, Sandler cautioned, calling the film “pretty heartbreaking” in parts. “It’s very, very funny. [Me and] my friends who have read the script, all of us were baffled how funny it is,” Sandler said. “But there’s a lot of stuff going on in the movie.”

According to Rogen, the film is scheduled to begin shooting in September.

A few weeks ago I caught a special screening of Forgetting Sarah Marshall… And from what I saw, it was clearly the best comedy of the year. Just like an Apatow film should be, It is packed with balls out laughs and I MEAN BALLS OUT! I was sitting in the theatre laughing hysterically wondering when Jason Segel was ready to put his damn clothes on. Ever since the Freaks and Geeks/Undeclared days, I thought Jason Segel was the weirdest yet funniest guy of the Apatow bunch. Had you really payed close attention to his acting in these shows as the crazy intoxicated boyfriend, you would see why he is the big comedy star he is today. I mean don’t get me wrong, Seth Rogen is the man! But clearly, Segel is way funnier than Rogen. Be ready for some Class A Comedy!

Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller have set an early benchmark for comedies this year with the winner that is Forgetting Sarah Marshall!
Peter just got dumped by “sexpot” TV star Sarah Marshall and decides, after a few weeks of promiscuity and wallowing in the remains of his relationship, that he should go to Hawaii to get away from it all. Little does he know that his ex-Sarah Marshall is there as well and she isn’t alone. Marshall’s fling is British pop star Aldous Snow who sings about being “inside of you” and asks his fans to sodomize intolerance. Peter finds a romantic interest as well in Rachel, a hotel attendant, and the foursome begins a week of chance encounters and discovering their relationships between each other. I won’t spoil the plot any further, but will say that it is solid and never really feels stale. This is probably helped by the constant string of good humor and clever jokes steadily delivered through out the picture.
Since the action takes place at a hotel/resort there are a number of reoccurring characters, be they guests in the form of a reoccurring newlywed couple, a surf instructor, or a number of the help and wait staff, the cast is littered with varying and funny people to like. Paul Rudd plays the fore mentioned stoner surf instructor and has a couple of bits of half-baked wisdom for Peter as he tries to move on with his life. Jack McBrayer is the real stand out though as the sexually lost newlywed that bumbles through his sexual trials and tribulations. The supporting staff is solid and has plenty of good bits and one liner’s, but the leads are all fantastic in their respective rolls.
Mila Kunis comes out of left field and knocked me on my butt in this one. I hated her and her voice on That 70′s Show and was completely blindsided when she doesn’t come off as one bit annoying, but also turns in a really great turn as Rachel, Peter’s love interest. She is sweet, funny, and attractive and does a great job as the ying to Sarah Marshall’s yang.
Speaking of Sarah Marshall, Kristen Bell does a great job at creating a very real and wounded girl that you could get behind for all of her actions. Also give her major props for her “bad tv” acting with Billy Baldwin that is just a great jab at the C.S.I’s and procedurals of the world.
Russell Brand makes his debut to me as the great Aldous Snow who is just incredibly likable with his rock star spin on the world. Brand perfectly brews Snow from the bane to our lead Peter, to a pretty cool and hilarious guy that you can’t help but like, even if he has the rationale of a child.
Jason Segel is the biggest stand out though as Peter. Easily carrying the movie, he is endlessly likable, and is a very real guy here, and not some macho jock douche that I am supposed to like. Segel’s best attribute here is that you would want to be friends with someone like Peter and he has no problem pulling that off.
This film rarely slows down and remains consistently funny. Segel’s script is full of great pop culture references, some great flashback bits, and covers a wide variety of humor and jokes. Forgetting Sarah Marshall is the best comedy in this young year, and stands a top as the best of the recent Apatow produced winners of last year. Check this one out as soon as you can if you’re looking for a comedy for adults, both male and female.

Dale now has another reason to visit Saul: to find out if the weed is so rare that it can be traced back to him,Which is. As Dale and Saul run for their lives, they quickly discover that they’re not suffering from weed-fueled paranoia, the bad guys really are hot on their tail and trying to figure out the fastest way to kill them both.

04. Freaks and Geeks: The Entire Show

We can thank this show for launching the career’s of James Franco, Jason Segel, Seth Rogen, Linda Cardellini and I am certain we will be seeing more from Busy Philipps soon. Even though the show was only on for 1 full season, it spawned one of the biggest cult followings for a TV show that I can remember.

03. “Do you know how I know you’re gay?” Scene from 40 year old virgin:

Cal: I think? I mean, that sounds ga- I just want you to know this is like the first conversation of like three conversations that leads to you being gay. This classic scene had one shot to get it right as they were really waxing Steve Carell. He was also presented with the option of trimming the hair before filming to lessen the pain, but declined in favor of authenticity. He further stated in an interview on Australia’s Rove Live that the scene was unnecessarily painful because the waxers forgot to oil his nipples. Ouch, thanks for the laughs Mr Carell.

Many of us grew up watching The Muppet Show. I remember never wanting to miss an episode. We also remember the various movies that were made, including The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) and Muppets from Space (1999). Unfortunately, the classic appeal of the Muppets has given way to more modern, and in my opinion freaky-weird, kids shows like The Teletubbies.

Disney [don't run away just yet] has just penned a deal to make another Muppet movie. Disney has attached Jason Segel to write the script and Nick Stoller to direct the film. Segel has earned his stripes writing for the Apatow-produced television comedies Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared. Segel also wrote the Apatow-produced Forgetting Sarah Marshall. As for Nick Stoller, he wrote the screenplay for Fun with Dick and Jane (2005) and has also written for the television show Undeclared. In addition, he directed the upcoming Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Segel and Stoller actually got the idea from an element of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, whereas a character writes a musical version ofĂ‚  Dracula performed by Muppets. Segel actually approached Disney with the idea and received a deal almost instantly.

Judd Apatow is not human … or, he at least requires no sleep. Apatow has yet another comedy in the works, this one currently untitled and the plot is being kept under lock and key. What is known, however, is that Adam Sandler will be re-teaming with Apatow on this one, co-starring with Seth Rogen. Apatow is the solo-writer of this project and will also direct. The movie is a cooperative venture between Universal and Sony Pictures and is scheduled to start production between late summer and fall. Go, Judd, Go!

What does this mean for you this early on? Well, not much other than a general buzz of excitement that you’ll have plenty of other good things to watch instead of Mike Myers’ upcoming crap fest. Hey, how about we watch that Pineapple Express trailer again? I’ve seen it about 25 times, but hey that’s not media bias, it’s just me GEEKING OUT (kinda like Hulking Out, only less things get smashed).

You may have seen this clip by now, as it’s on the SuperBad DVD Special Features. But for anybody who hasn’t, or doesn’t know what I’m talking about, here it is: The Pineapple Express is going to be the best stoner movie in a long time. Written by Judd Apatow, Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg, it’s going to star real life stoner Seth Rogan and James Franco, reuniting them for the first time since they were both on the amazing Freaks and Geeks. The action comedy follows a pothead and his dealer on a run for their lives after the pothead witness a murder and leaves behind the only evidence the bad guys could use to trace him: a joint of the extremely rare weed he just bought from his dealer called the Pineapple Express. The script is completely hilarious and if you add onto that the usual riffing and ad-libbed lines that made movies like Knocked Up so great, well, it’s going to be good.
