I’ve dug up the old Character Cage Match and dusted it off, upgrading it to version 2.0 with a new, more interactive purpose. The new CCM will be a weekly feature, randomly pitting two note-worthy cinematic characters against one another in a battle of popularity. Readers will vote on which character is their favorite and the victor will advance to next week’s face-off against a new contender. Who will hold the title the longest? Who will be eliminated in shame? The outcome is in your hands!

Being the first of a new generation of CCM, this happens to ab an all Al Pacino week. This week’s cage match features Al Pacino as Tony Montana, from Brian De Palma’s SCARFACE (1983) versus Al Pacino as Michael Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s GODFATHER trilogy. Bare in mind, the contest isn’t necessarily determined by the number of appearances, assumed bad ass-ness or number of awards or box office draw, how these may play into your decision. Simply put, its a contest of popularity, by whatever means of determination those voting deem pertinent.

For all intents and purposes, this is an experimental project. The continuation of this weekly feature will be determined by the amount of participation from our readers. The new Character Cage match is part of an effort to develop some more interactive content with our readers, just to see what sticks. So, if you like the idea, or are simply curious to see how things pan out, please cast your vote once a week. This week’s edition of the Character Cage Match is called “The Battle Over Bill” because these two fine filmmakers seem to be in a competition to see who can cast Bill Murray in more of their films than the other. This battle that will ensue has Wes Anderson pitted against Jim Jarmusch.

Both directors have what you might call the indie spirit, but they both have made waves in the industry as being artists that consistently produce high-quality films. Both are rooted in within the realm of comedy, but neither are what you could call traditional in their approach. In their own ways, both filmmakers tell dramatic stories with a dry sense of humor, however their stories always include an element of originality that we haven’t seen before. While the comedic element appears much more prevalent in Anderson’s films, it’s still there in the films of Jarmusch, but it tends to lie just under the surface.

Both of these filmmakers are modern masters of their trade with a vast surplus of imagination and originality. When it comes down to being a creative force, we ask the question… Who will prevail in this Character Cage Match? Cast your vote by leaving a comment below and help deicde the victor.

Welcome to the fifth and final WAMG Character Cage Match, in honor of Quentin Tarantino’s newest film INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. This final match of the week-long fight card is the Main Event, putting the fan favorite Hollywood star Brad Pitt in the ring against his imaginary self, vying for the coveted heavy-weight Cage Match Championship.

Brad Pitt has given us many great characters. In this epic Cage Match, we witness two characters brought to life by Pitt, each of them equally crazy and fearless and driven by violence. Lt. Aldo Raine of INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS is the commanding officer of a rag-tag team of military misfits, given the choice of serving their sentence or serving their country. Tyler Durden of FIGHT CLUB is a psychotic uninhibited madman, the founder of the underground Fight Club sensation that swept and nation looking for an alternative to the humdrum corporate suburban lifestyle and completely a figment of The Narrator (Ed Norton).

Fighting out of the left corner, the challenger Lt Aldo Raine stands determined and ready to have a good ole time beating the crap out of his opponent, just like he does to those no-good Naatzi bad guys he’s been enlisted by Allied forces to kill on sight. Lt. Aldo Raine may be reckless and perhaps enjoys his work a little too much, but one thing’s for sure… he takes scalping his enemies seriously!

Fighting out of the right corner, the reigning king of chaos Tyler Durden stands pumped up and itching to throw down with his opponent. Durden is skilled in bare-knuckle boxing and all-around no-holds-bar fighting. The first rule of this Cage Match bout is… there are NO rules! Anyone who chooses to challenge Tyler Durden should be prepared for the worst, because there’s no tapping out of this match.

Are you ready for this Cage Match Chaos? This Main Event caps off a week of special match-ups in recognition of Quentin Tarantino’s new film INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS and the winner will be named the new Master of Mayhem. Welcome to the fourth of five WAMG Character Cage Match special events, in honor of Quentin Tarantino’s newest film INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. This fourth match of the week-long fight card has the sexy and vivacious Uma Thurman putting dukes up with the equally sexy Genna Davis for the light-weight Cage Match Championship.

Both of these deadly women are forces to be reckoned with, and they are also both women on a mission, intent on sweet vengeance for wrongs committed against them. Uma Thurman is The Bride (aka Beatrix Kiddo) of KILL BILL, vol. 1 & 2 from Quentin Tarantin, while Geena Davis is Samantha Caine (aka Charly Baltimore) of LONG KISS GOODNIGHT (1996) from Renny Harlin.

In the left corner of the ring, The Bride stands tall (6 foot) and confident to meet her opponent. The Bride may have been shot in the head and left for dead, but it’ll take more than that to take her out for good. She’s trained in the arts of Kung Fu by the Master Pai Mei and masterfully wields a samurai sword built by the legendary Hattori Hanzo. If you’re lucky enough to get the best of this skillful killer, don’t let you guard down lest you be finished by her Five Finger Exploding Heart maneuver.

In the right corner of the ring, Samantha Caine also stands tall (6 foot) and ready for action. Despite suffering memory loss, she’s got the makings of a deadly assassin programmed into every inch of her body. Caine was trained not by ancient Eastern methods, but rather by the best the US has to offer. In her former life, she was a dangerous secret government operative, skillful with both bullet and blade. Don’t let her amnesia fool you. Get in her way and instinct kicks you in the teeth.

Prepare yourselves for the most amazing display of highly-trained fighters you’ll see this week. In this Cage Match bout to determine the Light-Weight Champion, who shall stand victorious? Welcome back to the third of five WAMG Character Cage Match special events, in honor of Quentin Tarantino’s newest film INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. This third match of the week-long fight card is for the ladies, or… guys, depending on how you look at it. The men aren’t the only ones with some fight in them.

Jackie Brown and Hershe Las Palmas, both characters played by legendary exploitation and cult film actress Pam Grier. Jackie Brown of JACKIE BROWN (1997) from Quentin Tarantino versus Hershe Las Palmas of ESCAPE FROM L.A. (1996) … a cat fight to end all cat fights!

Strutting her stuff onto the mats from the left, Jackie Brown is a mild-mannered middle-aged woman in a pants suit, but under the surface is an extremely capable warrior woman with the will and determination to overcome her obstacles and prove she’s no door mat for the evila round her to wipe their feet on. She’s smart, she’s cunning and she can handle a firearm. Beware, or else Jackie may take aim at kicking your ass!

Making her way into the arena from the right, Hershe Las Palmas makes her pressence known with flair and fire. Her badass image is enough to make most opponents flee on sight, but if that doesn’t do the trick she’s got a bite even meaner than her bark. Hershe is a resourceful woman, intent on survival and no stranger to a weapon of nearly any caliber. Avoid Hershe at all costs, but if you must pick a fight, you better be ready to fight dirty!

Welcome back to day two of five WAMG Character Cage Match special events, in honor of Quentin Tarantino’s newest film INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. The second match on this week-long fight card is a tag team match. Double the carnage, for your pleasure. This two-on-two brawl pits two hitman pairings against each other.

This event is a bit different, as we have two sets of actors instead of one actor in two roles. Vincent (John Travolta) and Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) of PULP FICTION (1994) from Quentin Tarantino will face off against Connor (Sean Patrick Flanery) and Murphy (Norman Reedus), also known as The McManus Brothers of BOONDOCK SAINTS (1999) from Troy Duffy.

On the left, veterans of violence Vincent and Jules approach the stage to claim their victory. This pair of hitmen for hire fight for one thing… CASH! Rules, ethics, good sportsmanship… these two know not of these things. They have a job to do and a paycheck to collect, so don’t even think about getting in their way. Whether by bullets, by fists or by heated debate, Vincent and Jules “will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger.”

Entering the ring from the right are relative rookies to the killing trade, the McManus Brothers. Connor and Murphy may be new to the killings arts, but what they lack in experience they make up for with determined spirit and a sense of calling. The McManus Brothers see themselves as divinely-placed cleaners of evil from the streets, put here by God himself to do his bidding. If your slate is not clear of sin, you may want to think twice about stepping into the ring with these two young vigilantes.

Welcome to the first of five WAMG Character Cage Match special events, in honor of Quentin Tarantino’s newest film INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS. The first match on the fight card pits Harvey Keitel against… well, himself. No, not really. It pits two of his characters against each other. (Get used to this, it’s gonna happen a lot this week.)

Both characters portrayed by actor Harvey Keitel, both characters were also introduced to the general movie-going audience in 1992. Mr. White of RESERVOIR DOGS from Quentin Tarantino. The Lieutenant of BAD LIEUTENANT from Abel Ferrara.

Stepping into the fully-enclosed chain-linked cage on your left is the calm, cool and collected Mr. White. Don’t let his ability to keep it together under stress fool you. Don’t ask him his real name, unless you want a bullet in your brain. He’s smart, suave and sophisticated, but he’s not afraid to get the job done when necessary. Prior to this Character Cage Match, Mr. White pursued a life of crime, working as a professional criminal along side a small gang of other well-dressed hoodlums loyal to him, ready to rumble at a moment’s notice.

Now entering the cube of carnage on your right side is the man without morals, the cop without a care, the legend known only as The Lieutenant. This seasoned protector of the peace has his own sense of justice, fueled by booze, drugs and women. He’ll stop at nothing to get his way and the cost is not an issue. If you don’t give him what he wants, he’ll just beat the Hell out of you and take it and that goes for the Cage Match Championship Belt as well. Don’t back The Lieutenant into a corner though, as he’s got the law in his side… well, sort of.

Welcome, fans, to this special edition of WAMG’s Character Cage Match. With the release of ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’ we decided to pit the two Best Movie Wizards against each other in a magical duel of wits, wisdom and wizardry in an attempt to determine, once and for all, who is the most formidable of them all. To make things even more interesting, let’s pit the fans against each other as well. Those of you who consider yourselves Ringers, devout followers of Lord of the Rings, support your wizard! In these, as is the case with many movies from all eras, the bully is a cruel and brutish, but usually dense and about as smart as a box of hammers.

Yoda: Stands at 3 feet tall, has big ears (better to hear you with), has the wisdom of 800 years of experience, benefits from the element of surprise due to his deceptive appearance of being small and frail, commands the power of the force to unknown ends and wields a cute little mini light saber with deadly accuracy.

In honor of Halloween, we have a special Last Man/Monster Standing edition of WAMG’s Character Cage Match. This tournament of terror features eight of the most dangerous, ruthless and cunning killers from the horror movie genre.

Match #1: Michael Myers (Halloween) vs. Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th)

Match #2: Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street) vs. Candyman (Candyman)

Match #3: Pinhead (Hellraiser) vs. Jigsaw (Saw)

Match #4: Chucky (Child’s Play) vs. Leprechaun (Leprechaun)

Like the good ole days of WWF’s Royal Rumble, each pair will fight until only one remains standing. The winner of each pair will be paired up again, then again, until only the toughest, most brutally twisted movie maniac remains to claim the title. Who will be crowned king of the killers? Round one matches the maniacal misfits by their similarities, but things get more interesting when the winners are paired in round two. Let the carnage begin!

It’s been a long, dry spell since the last Cage Match, but we’ve got a brutal battle boiling up today. They say that talent gets better with age, but will these aging contestants vying for champion status be able to hold true to their hard as nails stereotypes or will they find themselves scrambling for theĂ‚  nitroglycerin? Today’s rage in the cage pits veterans of the screen Jack Nicholson against Dennis Hopper.Ă‚  These two wild men shared celluloid in ‘Easy Riders’ butĂ‚  now they’re going to have to throw down for the gold.

Nicholson is well known for his sharp tongue and brutal tone, but Hopper also is a force to reckon with, sporting some nasty language and threatening behavior. Who will triumph between these two masters of the verbal assault? Which of these cool cats is king of the nursing home? You, the reading audience, gets to decide which of these senior celebritiesĂ‚  will ultimately take the championship belt back to their assisted living penthouses.

Welcome back, fight fans … to the second official brawl of celebrities competing for the number one spot in the minds of movie geeks.

This is our first celebrity cat-fight, featuring two very hot, very skinny and very popular female action stars that truly kick ass. First up, we have Milla “Zombie-Killa” Jovovich, revered star of The Fifth Element and undisputed Queen of Zombie Annihilation from the Resident Evil film franchise.

Her challenger in this Bout of the Pout is Kate “Foreva Leatha” Beckinsale, forgotten as the vampire-hunter Anna Valerious in Van Helsing, but a living legend of the undead as the vampire assassin Selene in the Underworld movies. Both deceiving, yet unfathomably dangerous, these two sweethearts would just assume rip your hearts out than put up with your crap.

Who will walk away with the title … its in your hands.

Welcome to the main event, a cage match for the title of Greatest Actor … at Playing Themselves.

Tonight’s event is a no holds bar all-out brawl between the top two contenders in this division, George “Tattooed Terror” Clooney versus Nicolas “Mullet Maniac” Cage. These two actors are much-loved and always fun to watch, but always play … well, themselves. George the doctor, George the lawyer, George the nipple-suited crime-fighter … or … Nic the undercover cop, Nic the flaming skull demon, Nic the FBI chemist. Anyway way you choose it, you’re still watching George or Nic.

Now, you have to choose the best. This bout is set for one brutal, gruelling round of primal thespian war. There are no knock-outs, no TKOs, no draws and most importantly, no rules. This match will be determined by decision alone. That decision, for the World WAMG Cage Match Championship, will be determined by the audience (that’s you) based on your feedback to this post.
