I have some great news for Cheech and Chong fans!

The Weinstein Company have partnered with Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong, and their managers Ben Feigin and Josh Klein to produce a concert movie to memorialize the comic duo’s reunion and first tour together in 25 years.

As part of the arrangement, TWC has worldwide theatrical, home video, digital and television rights. The feature-length program, which will portray a live concert experience of the “Cheech & Chong: Light Up America” tour, is expected to make a major TV premiere, followed by the DVD release.

“‘The Cheech and Chong Concert Movie’ will be an historic, must-experience event for the many fans that grew up listening to their recordings and watching their movies,” said Barry Gordon, EVP of Home Entertainment at TWC. “For the millions of new fans who have discovered Cheech and Chong over the years as cultural icons, this will be the first time many of them will be able to enjoy the artistry and one-of-kind magic that is Cheech and Chong live on stage. This is the comedy event of the decade.”

“It’s great to get a chance to cap a long career with a show of where we are now,” said Marin.

Chong stated, “I really like Harvey because he picked up my dinner tab.”

Start of production and official release dates are to be announced.

Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong’s phenomenal success began on the stand-up comedy circuit and led to eight hit films and nine comedy albums, which garnered multiple Grammy nominations. The “Cheech & Chong: Light Up America” reunion tour officially kicked off on September 26th, 2008 and has been selling out across the country. Many of the dates have needed to add multiple shows each night to meet demand. The tour will continue through 2009, and will bring the duo overseas to multiple continents.

During a charity golf tournament in Southern California, Will Ferrell revealed to USA Today that after doing “Kicking and Screaming,” “Talladega Nights,” “Blades of Glory” and “Semi-Pro,” he will no longer take roles in another sports movie.

“I will no longer attempt to do any sports movie, anymore. Any sports,” said Ferrel, whose golf attire made him look like he could step right into a golf movie.

“No, no golf movie. Yeah, I’m retired from sports-genre films. You know, I think I filled my quota,” he said.

Los Angeles-based Harbor Light Entertainment and Tokyo-based Lotus have assembled an international consortium to remake helmer Akira Kurosawa’s 1950 classic “Rashomon.”

Action will be moved from ancient Japan to contempo America, where a court must decide the facts about the rape of a woman and the murder of her husband.

Harbor Light and Lotus will be joined by LA’s Lexicon Filmed Entertainment and Singapore’s Upside Down Entertainment on the English-language project, “Rashomon 2010.” Harbor Light announced a “Rashomon” remake in 2001, but struggled to get the pic greenlit.

The partners are also gearing up to make “The Masque of Black Death,” a feature toon based on an unproduced Kurosawa script penned in 1977. The partners plan to have the remake and the toon in theaters in 2010 as part of a 100th anniversary celebration of Kurosawa’s birth.

Kurosawa planned to have Japanese anime auteur Osamu Tezuka make the pic, but the project never got off the ground before Kurosawa’s death in 1998.

Set in Russia in the early 20th century, “The Masque of Black Death” depicts a disease that kills most of the population.

I just can’t believe that William Shatner will not appear in the upcoming “Star Trek” movie. Apparently, fans can’t believe it either, because director JJ Abrams keeps being asked about it. This is insane!

IGN caught up with Abrams and once again brought up Shatner, asking whether anyone else from the original cast besides Leonard Nimoy will show up in “Star Trek.” “No, the only cast member from the original films is Nimoy,” said Abrams.

As for the status of the film, which is in post-production right now for a summer 2009 release, Abrams said that — despite a recent radio interview where filmmaker and professional fanboy Kevin Smith heavily hinted at having just seen a cut of the new Trek — “We’re not done with it but we are working on it still. There have been cuts and, as everything goes, [it's] an evolution. I’m hoping the final cut is a few weeks away. But we’re definitely circling.“

The first official still from the upcoming film “I Love you Phillip Morris” has been released, showing Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor about to kiss.

The new movie tells the story of Steven Russell (Carrey), a married conman who found himself in a Texan prison where he fell in love with Phillip Morris (McGregor). Russell tried to escape from prison four times, coming up with more and more elaborate plans, including once faking his own death. Morris was eventually released but Russell landed over a hundred years behind bars because of his escape attempts.

“I Love You Phillip Morris” is written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, who are also responsible for the screenplay for “Bad Santa.”

Zack and Miri are two lifelong friends who are deep in debt and enlist the help of their friends to make a porno movie for some quick cash. But as everybody starts “doing” everybody, Zack and Miri realize that they may have more feelings for each other than they previously thought.

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) announced Monday the arrest of 461 alleged movie pirates – 56 caught using a camcorder in a theater – during a three-month period ending in July. [via Wired]

The announcement, which also said 1,000 optical disc burners were seized, could not be independently verified in what the MPAA is calling “Operation Takedown” – a law enforcement effort conducted jointly with local authorities and MPAA investigators.

The operation included the countries of China, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Korea.

The MPAA said cinema workers in Thailand were now using night-vision goggles to crack down on piracy. It said Hollywood’s lobbying arm also “conducted training for cinema staff to identify camcorders and prepped enforcement officers with basic knowledge of copyright law and to identify pirated products all around Asia.”

Among the highlights, according to the MPAA: more than 4 million pirated discs seized in China, 182 burners seized in Malaysia, 39 camcorder “interdictions” in the Philippines, 548 burners seized in Taiwan, 110 people arrested in Thailand and more than 530,000 infringing files removed from the internet in Korea.

I believe ‘Dark Knight’ is one of many movies floating around on the net for the viewing pleasure.

YOU ARE GOING TO PRISON SUCKA!

Ashton Kutcher will star in and produce the multigenerational fatherhood comedy ‘Like Father’ at Columbia Pictures. ‘You Can Count on Me’ helmer Kenneth Lonergan has been tapped to rewrite the project, which is based on a pitch by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Rusk Robinson.

Story revolves around a father and son who never got along but coincidentally have baby sons at the same time and are forced to go through the fatherhood experience together.

Kutcher and Jason Goldberg will produce via their Sony-based Katalyst Films banner. Katalyst has a number of projects set up at the studio, including an untitled romantic comedy about a matchmaker florist.

David Duchovny and Tea Leoni’s banner And Then Prods. will be making some music with CBS Films.

CBS has acquired the comedy spec “Born to Rock” from writers Jess Walter and Mark Steilen, with Duchovny, Leoni and Dan Cortese producing and And Then’s Susanna Jolly on board to exec produce.

The project revolves around a group of struggling, aging rock musicians who, because of a mixup in their demo tape, end up catching a record exec’s attention for a children’s
song written on a lark, then find unlikely success as a Wiggles-type children’s band.

Duchovny, who described the project as “rock ‘n’ roll meets the sippy cup crowd,” said that the mix of older musicians playing youth-oriented music had relevance. “It speaks to a cultural phenomenon that is happening right now in music,” he said.

And Then conceived and developed the script, signing on Steilen and Walter to pen the screenplay.

Maria Faillace will oversee “Rock” for CBS.

The Amy Baer-led film unit is in development on a number of pro-jects, including the Harrison Ford medical drama “Crowley.”

Steve Carell and Tina Fey are set to play a married couple in “Date Night,” a 20th Century Fox comedy to be directed by Shawn Levy. Josh Klausner wrote the script, based on an idea by Levy. Story follows a couple who find their routine date night becomes much more than just dinner and a movie.

Pic will begin production next year, with the exact start date predicated on matching a scheduling hiatus from Carrel’s sitcom “The Office” and Feys “30 Rock.”

Levy, who is shooting Fox’s “Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian,” intends the pic to be his next directing assignment. “I wanted to do a relatable, grounded character comedy about marriage and the lengths we go to preserve the spark,” Levy told Variety. “Tina and Steve are smart and relatable, and the tone of their comedy perfectly fits this film.“

Matthew Vaughn (Stardust) is moving ahead to direct “Kick-Ass,” an adaptation of a comic by Mark Millar, with key pieces of the cast starting to fall into place.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad) is in negotiations, while Chloe Moretz has been cast in the film, whose violent nature has forced Hollywood studios to pass on making it. Vaughn however, is such a believer in the project that he raised the money for the $30 million indie project himself.

“Kick-Ass,” written by Millar and drawn by John Romita Jr., follows a high school dweeb who attempts to reinvent himself as a real-world costumed superhero named Kick-Ass who seems doomed to failure because he’s not athletic or coordinated until he runs into real bad guys with real weapons.

The comic is ultraviolent, with kids taking on adults of all stripes. Moretz’s character, for example, is a ferocious, potty-mouthed 11-year-old who chops down crime thugs with a ninja sword. Mintz-Plasse will play the Red Mist, the angry teen son of a mobster who tries to find uncover Kick-Ass’ identity.

The main character, dweeb Dave Lizewski, has not yet been cast. Vaughn also is talking to several high-profile stars to play parents or mobsters.

Vaughn first brought the project to Sony, which distributed his “Layer Cake,” but the studio balked at the violence, which he refused to tone down. Several other studios expressed interest but demanded that the protagonists’ ages be upped. Vaughn is now is doing it alone.

Should this kid still be getting acting jobs?

Writer Justin Marks spoke to MTV News about the upcoming DC Comics’ movie “The Green Arrow,” revealing that the title character will not be the most well known individual in the film. “Oh, we’ve got Lex Luthor in there,” said Marks. “I’m pretty sure Riddler gets his shot — Ed Nigma gets his moment.”

In the tentatively titled “Green Arrow: Escape From Super Max,” Oliver Queen (aka the Green Arrow) is unjustly locked up in a federal penitentiary for meta-humans and forced to rely on a whole bevy of villains to make his escape — villains like Luthor, Icicle and even the Joker.

But the best part of the movie, is the prison itself. “It’s a very, very awesome prison. I majored in architecture in college, and design is how I actually started in. For ‘Super Max,’ designing that prison, it had to be the kind of thing that was a character in and of itself,” Marks said. “We’re in a world where instead of just trying to contain a guy who’s really big, you’re trying to contain a guy who can — in the case of Icicle — who can freeze things. What kind of a cell would a guy like that need in order to have his powers neutralized? So to escape from Super Max they have got to go through the most elaborate heist we’ve ever seen, involving superpowers. Because the prison itself kind of has superpowers!”

Marks added that Queen won’t get a traditional origin story. “We do deal with his origin — he’s got a very interesting origin with a desert island and everything else — but we get to the core of Green Arrow not by showing where he starts but by pushing him into a key moment in his life where everything he has is lost, and he’s got to earn it all back,” he said. “I think for audiences it’s going to be a great way to get to know a new character.“

Tom Cruise and Spyglass Entertainment are circling each other on “The Tourist,” the Bharat Nalluri-directed remake of the 2005 French thriller “Anthony Zimmer.”

The film has emerged as the strongest contender for Cruise’s next outing and his first star vehicle since the Bryan Singer-directed ‘Valkyrie’ at United Artists.

Scripted by “Gosford Park” scribe Julian Fellowes, the thriller concerns an American tourist who finds his life in danger when a female Interpol agent uses him as a dupe to flush out an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair.

Nalluri, who directed the HBO film “Tsunami: The Aftermath” and ‘Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day,’ joined the project several months ago.

Cruise has been careful in weighing his next film, and sources caution that his participation in “The Tourist” hasn’t solidified. Cruise had been courted but decided in the end not to star in “Edwin A. Salt,” a drama whose lead role is being redrafted for Angelina Jolie.

When Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company announced plans for a remake of Wes Craven’s horror classic “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” the big question was who would play Freddy Kruger. Robert Englund , who previously portrayed the iconic character, has endlessly stated that he should not be brought back to reprise the role. He believes that since the franchise is being started from scratch, a new actor should be cast.

JoBlo now reports that Englund went on the late night radio show “Loveline” last week, where he stated that while he is not in the loop, he has heard that the studio is interested in casting Billy Bob Thornton as Kruger.

Englund added that he is not opposed to being replaced and feels that the new remake should have a bigger budget for the dreamscape special effects.

Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) will star with Charlotte Gainsbourg (I’m Not There) in “Antichrist,” which will be directed by Lars von Trier (Dogville). Anders Thomas Jensen (The Duchess) wrote the script with von Trier.

In the psychological thriller that evolves into a horror film, Dafoe and Gainsbourg will play a couple who retreat to an isolated cabin in the woods following the death of their child. While there, they encounter strange, terrifying occurrences.

The picture completed financing its $11 million budget last month and will begin production this month in Germany.

While many people went to see “The Dark Knight,” only a few know exactly what happened at the end of the movie. If you have not seen “Knight” yet, do not keep reading.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

At the end of the film, Harvey Dent/Two-Face apparently fell to his death during a standoff with Batman and Jim Gordon in a warehouse. Some have suggested that Dent is not dead due to rumors that he will appear in the third Batman movie and the fact that there was no blood. Also, no coffin was seen at the Dent memorial. So could Two-Face be locked away in a hospital or a mental institution?

“The Dark Knight” producer Emma Thomas touched on the topic when IGN brought it up. Unfortunately, her reply was not very helpful, stating that fans could interpret it either way they’d like.

But what were the filmmaker going for? In the movie novelization, author Dennis O’Neil wrote, “Dent was sprawled, neck twisted, the mutilated side of his face exposed, his left eye open and staring sightlessly. He was obviously dead.”

And the script by Jonathan and Christopher NolanĂ‚   — included in “The Dark Knight: Featuring Production Art and Full Shooting Script” — states, “Dent lies at the bottom of the hole, his neck broken. DEAD.”

So there is your answer. Two-Face will not be returning for part 3.

Zak Penn, who is best known for adapting such comicbook properties as ‘The Incredible Hulk’ and ‘X-Men’ for the bigscreen, is writing and will produce “The Argonauts” for 20th Century Fox.

‘The Argonauts’ is based on Penn’s original take on the classic Greek tale. In Greek mythology, the Argonauts were a band of heroic sailors who, in the years before the Trojan War, accompanied Jason to Colchis in his quest to find the Golden Fleece. The Argonauts name comes from the sailors’ ship, the Argo.

John Davis (Alien v. Predator) is also on board to produce ‘The Argonauts.’

DreamWorks is developing a project, also titled ‘The Argonauts,’ about a group of treasure hunters who discover the wreck of the mythological sunken ship thought to have been captained by Jason, and are transported back in time to ancient Greece.

Penn is also writing ‘The Avengers’ which is based on the Marvel comicbook.

LA Times chatted with rapper/actor Ice Cube who made it clear that he would like nothing more than to play the role of BA Baracus in the upcoming big screen adaptation of “The A-Team.”

“Man, I am so ready to play BA Baracus. I was a big, big Mr. T fan,” said Cube . “I mean, c’mon, Clubber Lang [in “Rocky III”) was amazing. I even watched his Saturday morning show, but that was cheesy. I was like everybody else, I watched it for about six weeks and said, ‘Man this isn’t any good.’ But the ‘A-Team,’ I would love for this to happen.”

At this point, director John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood) has been named as the director, Bruce Willis has been rumored to take the role of Col. Hannibal Smith and Woody Harrelson to play “Howlin’ Mad” Murdock. Cube confirmed that even though there is currently a set release date of June 12th 2009, the fate of the film is very much unknown. “Everything is in limbo,” he said.

Fans have already voiced their opinions of Cube taking over the role Mr. T made so famous. He’s simply not right for it.Ă‚   Who do you think should play the big bad BA Baracus?

Terry Gilliam (Time Bandits) will reportedly be reviving an abandoned film project with Johnny Depp “before next summer”. Gilliam had to abandon filming on “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote” after a series of accidents forced insurers to pull the plug.

But the director is hopeful the project can be recovered, eight years after filming first began. “As far as we’re concerned, it’s on,” he told the Independent. “When Johnnys ready, we’re ready. We’re just talking about dates to film. Basically it all depends on his schedule but otherwise we’re set. It will be next year some time, before next summer anyway.”

Work on the film, based on the novel by Cervantes, was halted after flash floods washed away the set and French actor Jean Rochefort had to be airlifted to hospital with a hernia.

Gilliam said the project, which stars Johnny as a time-traveling advertising executive, will be started afresh. “We’re going to completely re-shoot it,” he told the newspaper. “The intervening years have taught me that I can actually write a much better film. I’m excited it’s going to get done at last.”

This is not the first time that a Gilliam-directed project has ran into problems. Earlier this year, his “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” was put on hold due to the death of the leading man, Heath Ledger.

LA Times had a chance to sit down with Frank Miller and Jason Statham, who chatted about a potential “Daredevil” movie, which could star Statham as the title character.

When Miller worked for Marvel Comics, his work on “Daredevil” added new depth to the character, but Mark Steven Johnson’s 2003 adaptation (starring Ben Affleck) was not very well received by fans or critics. So when the topic of “Daredevil” came up, Miller was more than happy to discuss.

Statham said he is eager to work with Miller at some point and that he adores the Daredevil character. “Just give me the chance, I would love to be Daredevil,” he said. When the newspaper suggested that Statham would make a better Bullseye, he quickly bounced back with: “Forget Bullseye, I want to be Daredevil!”

Miller agreed with him: “I think he should be Daredevil too.”

I’m not to sure about him playing the next Daredevil…this guy is a bad-ass but he is too small and cannot pull off the devil look. How do you feel about Statham playing the Daredevil?
