St. Louis Film Critics Association Chooses A STAR IS BORN as Best Film of 2018
St. Louis film critics spread the love as 15 different films receive recognition over 20 award categories.
Spike Lee’s “Blackkklansman” and Alfonso Cuarón’s “Roma” lead the pack with three awards each as “Vice” comes in a close second.
Notable awards: The tragic romance “A Star Is Born” gains the coveted “Best Picture” award, while Spike Lee’s rousing biopic wins “Best Director” for “Blackkklansman.” In the acting categories Ethan Hawke’s turn as soul-searching Reverend Ernst Toller wins “Best Actor,” and Toni Collette’s memorable performance as Annie, a bereaved daughter discovering her family’s horrible heritage wins “Best Actress.” Richard B. Grant earns “Best Supporting Actor” for his role as Jack Hock, a supportive ne’er-do-well in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?,” and Regina King’s emotional and heartfelt turn as Sharon Rivers captures the coveted “Best Supporting Actress” award.
Eligible films include those that opened in St. Louis during the 2018 calendar year, including foreign-language films that may have been released to qualify for awards the year before, but were not made available to membership until this year.
A film, slated for a January 2019 release in St. Louis, is considered eligible if a screening/screener/screening link is made available to all members.
