WAMG Goes Back In The Water For JAWS IN CONCERT At The Hollywood Bowl
“A shark is attracted to the exact kind of splashing and activity that occurs whenever human beings go in swimming. You cannot avoid it.” – JAWS
Swimming into theaters on August 10 is Warner Bros. Pictures THE MEG, and Hoo Boy, I can’t wait for this one! It’s the story of an unstoppable threat: a pre-historic 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. Check out the trailer here. Leave it to Hollywood to put up an awesome poster billboard on Sunset Blvd.
Shark Week kicked off this past Sunday on the Discovery Channel. The full schedule can be seen here.
On Saturday night, shark fans were out in force for the movie that started it all – JAWS, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra was there to bring one of the most iconic scores to life, conducted by Academy Award nominated composer David Newman.
Quint: Cage goes in the water, you go in the water. Shark’s in the water. Our shark. [sings]
Quint: Farewell and adieu to you, fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu, you ladies of Spain. For we’ve received orders for to sail back to Boston. And so nevermore shall we see you again.
Seeing this classic summer blockbuster on the big screen itself was a treat, but add to it the live orchestra and it was electrifying. From the eerie opening bars – two notes and you had a villain – to the exhilarating “chasing the shark” scenes, it was such a heightened experience to have the orchestra playing it live.
And the crowd could not have been more enthusiastic, many wearing their best Jaws-themed duds, from Jaws t-shirts and shark fin glow-in-the dark hats, to even a super-fan dressed as Ellen Brody.
The evening just reminded movie fans that even though the Hollywood Bowl is renowned for its live music events, it’s also a fantastic place to see a movie on a warm summer night.
Next up, the Hollywood Bowl takes us to a galaxy far far away…..STAR WARS and EMPIRE STRIKES BACK.
