While Thor is a hammer-wielding god and Captain America delivers justice with his shield, it’s ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER who walks softly but carries a big…ax. In the latest featurette from the film, author Seth Grahame-Smith, director Timur Bekmambetov, and producer Tim Burton explain that this “dispenser of justice” is the super hero you’ve never seen before.

Their film has the action, thrills, cutting-edge visual effects and 3D, and monstrous creatures of the undead, you’d expect from a title that includes the words “vampire hunter”. But through its portrait of a beloved historical figure, it is grounded in reality. This is the Lincoln you know – with one additional quality of which you were unaware. Until now.

Visionary filmmakers Burton and Bekmambetov reinvent the time-honored genre and present the terrifying creatures of the night as they were meant to be experienced – as fierce, visceral, intense and bloodthristy. ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER brings to the screen the secret life of our nation’s favorite president – as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.

ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER stars Benjamin Walker as the titular hero; Dominic Cooper as Henry Sturges, Lincoln’s mentor in vampire hunting; Anthony Mackie as William Johnson, Lincoln’s valet and friend; and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Mary Todd Lincoln, Abe’s wife. The screenplay is by Seth Grahame-Smith and Simon Kinberg, based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith. The producers are Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov, and Jim Lemley. Timur Bekmambetov is the director.

Adapted from Seth Grahame-Smith’s book, 20th Century Fox’s ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER will be in theaters June 22.
