I believe families bond best over food! Home-cooked food, to be more precise. The entire process can be both fun and its very much rewarding once the meal is ready. Other fun activities are going on hikes and taking the pets to the beach! Living in Southern California lets us enjoy these outdoor activities all year round!
I grew up in a Sicilian family, so the first thing that I have learned is that family bonds over food. It’s the one time where the entire family can come together after a hard day’s work or just in general and be themselves. My grandmother used to say the colors of our soul shine through at the table, as well as screaming “Manja” which is Italian for eat if we weren’t eating enough =) But she was right, families can be mad at each other and not talk for hours but as soon as they sit down as a family and enjoy themselves they lighten up and can act like nothing has happened. Thus showing their true colors.
A family that cooks and eats together is a family that stays together. Whether the times be good or bad, they are best weathered together over a meal. That’s my recipe. Feel free to add whatever spices you like …
Family that have strict chores around the house will stay together. The are bonded by taking care of the place they all live in.
I believe families best bond by talking to one another about each others’ problems. When I feel down and out, I always talk to my mom. It helps me feel better about myself. I also think families should be apart sometimes as well. They shouldn’t be so close all of the time. Being too close can cause disruptions within the family. For example, if my mom was on my back all the time, I would go insane. I think families are good to fall back on. They are definitely a support system!
Fun activities that help families to bond — vacations, bar-b-ques, day trips, reading to children, going to the park, etc.
Going on a long vacation- even better if your destination speaks a foreign tongue. If you don’t have the time and are of legal age- a few glasses of wine over a nice meal can be quite nice and turn family into friends. If you don’t have the wine nothing beats simply listening and really hearing them.
I think families can bond in a lot of ways. Personally, my family always made a point of having “game nights” or “movie nights.” We would all have a really good dinner and then decide on what game to play or what movie to watch. For some reason, “Napoleon Dynamite” always won!
Camping, and traveling brings families together.
“Family” is a very charged and dynamic word, just like the idea it represents. These days, “family” has undergone so many expansions and transformations that it is hard to pin down any one definition for it, let alone any one activity that can strengthen ties between one family member and another. But I believe, whether your family is big or small, close or separated by large distances, straight, gay, adopted, strange, stern, traditional, supportive, rich, poor, or anything & everything in between – what matters, to make a “family” truly bonded, is each member’s trust in one another. A family is connected by love and trust, in their most pure and unconditional forms. So no matter what you do, who you are and where you came from, your family are those people that you love and give yourself to heart and soul, and trusting that they too entrust themselves wholeheartedly to you.
