I MELT WITH YOU Red Band Trailer

Jeremy Piven, Thomas Jane, Rob Lowe and Christian McKay are starring together in a new film, I MELT WITH YOU… and we have the red band trailer for your viewing pleasure!

Synopsis:

Richard (Thomas Jane), Ron (Jeremy Piven), Jonathan (Rob Lowe) and Tim (Christian McKay) are old college friends that gather annually for a week in Big Sur to celebrate their friendship and catch-up on each other’s lives. They seem like typical men in their forties – all with careers, families, and enormous responsibilities – but like most people there is a lot more beneath the surface.

As the week progresses, they go down the rabbit hole of excess as mountains of drugs are consumed to a blaring rock ‘n’ roll soundtrack.  Parties with much younger women spin out of control. Exhausted and run ragged, they bare their souls to one another revealing the disillusionment with their lives.  As the truth emerges, the reunion takes a much darker turn when a promise from their past is brought to light.  From director Mark Pellington, I MELT WITH YOU is a visually dazzling, wild and wooly trip deep into the male psyche, driven by four amazingly committed and profound performances.

SLEEP TIGHT – Fantastic Fest Review

Warning! Seeing SLEEP TIGHT could keep you from sleeping for nights. If not, you may still find yourself checking under your bed. No, this isn’t a tale about the boogieman, but it is the story of an entirely different kind of monster, one that may be hiding in plain sight in anyone’s life.

SLEEP TIGHT is written by Alberto Marini and directed by Jaume Balaguero, one half of the creative team that brought you REC and REC2. This is the story of an average looking door man named Cesar (Luis Tosar), a deeply depressed and apathetic human being who masterfully hides his disdain for the world and the inhabitants of the apartment building he serves beneath the disguise of a well mannered and hard working gentleman. What becomes increasingly apparent, is that Cesar ranks somewhere between a stalker and a serial killer on the sociopath scale. Above all else, Cesar is a creepy dude.

What keeps Cesar going each day is his desire to make those around him unhappy. Frequently confiding his disturbing secret only to his hospitalized mother, speechless and bed ridden, Cesar’s focus is finely tuned on an attractive and endlessly cheery resident named Clara (Marta Etura). Using his friendly and charming alter ego to win her trust, Cesar embarks on a long standing series of personal and physical violations against Clara without her having the slightest knowledge of what’s happening. Cesar is determined to ruin Clara’s life.

SLEEP TIGHT may sound like a brutally vicious and potentially violent horror film, but the truth is that comedy is the bedfellow of the film’s more obvious roots in horror. Steeped in subtle, yet strongly scripted dark humor, the audience will likely feel as bad for their laughter as they feel entertained by this surprisingly fresh twist on the psycho thriller genre. Immensely creepy and every bit as iconic as Norman from PSYCHO, Cesar does what few characters on screen can celebrate… simultaneously developing both a hatred and a love for the antagonist.

Cesar is a very smart, cunning and clever man, but is not without his vices or his share of complications. Throughout the film, Cesar must also deal with the least likely of blackmailers, a witness in part to his dubious acts of trespassing, adding an additional layer to the humor, while also serving as a building block to quite an intense climactic moment near the end of the film. SLEEP TIGHT is methodical in its approach, carefully laid out like the best of Alfred Hitchcock’s films.

SLEEP TIGHT is not only a showcase for some inventive plot twists, but the film looks amazing. The cinematography from Pablo Rosso is richly aged, but vivid. Warm tones prevail with an old country feel, not unlike the work of Gordon Willis for THE GODFATHER: PART II. This not only adds to the flavor of the apartment building serving as a character, but also encourages a false sense of safety in the viewer’s mind, an element of storytelling that contributes to out mixed emotions toward Cesar. Should we be rooting for him, or be entirely appalled by his actions?

There is certainly a fine line delineating the black comedy from the dark nature of the story, but its a line we willingly cross in favor of an enjoyably bizarre tale of human interaction. SLEEP TIGHT peels back the superficiality of society, depicting one extreme scenario where Cesar is a man who makes it his life’s purpose to expose the rampant insincerity that surrounds him.

Academy Explores Colorful World of Disney Artist Mary Blair

Beverly Hills, CA – The lasting influence of Disney artist Mary Blair will be celebrated through an examination of her concept artwork for “Cinderella,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “Peter Pan” in the 1950s during “Mary Blair’s World of Color: A Centennial Tribute,” the latest installment of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Marc Davis Celebration of Animation, on Thursday, October 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

Several of today’s top animation talents will discuss Blair’s work as an artist and stylist and will also demonstrate how her work has influenced their own. The panel will be moderated by animation critic and film historian Charles Solomon.

Blair’s unmistakably bold and colorful designs continue to inspire artists in all areas of animation today. Her unique and lasting impact on animation continues to this day, though Blair is best known for her design of Disneyland’s “it’s a small world” attraction, which she worked on with legendary animator Marc Davis, for whom the lecture series is named, and his wife Disney Imagineer Alice Davis.

Panelists for the evening include:

Pete Docter, whose Oscar nominations include Original Screenplay for “Toy Story,” “WALL-E” and “Up,” Animated Feature film for “Monsters, Inc.” and Animated Short Film for “Mike’s New Car,” received the 2009 Oscar for Animated Feature Film for “Up.”

Mike Giaimo, who served as a character designer on “The Brave Little Toaster” and “FernGully: The Last Rainforest,” was the art director on “Pocahontas” and a visual development artist on “Home on the Range.”

Eric Goldberg, who served as the supervising animator for the Genie in “Aladdin,” Phil in “Hercules” and Rabbit in “Winnie the Pooh,” was the co-director of “Pocahontas” as well as the director of the “Rhapsody in Blue” and “Carnival of the Animals” segments of “Fantasia/2000.”

Susan Goldberg, who served as an assistant animator on “Pocahontas,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” and “Hercules,” was the art director on the “Rhapsody in Blue” and “Carnival of the Animals” sequences in “Fantasia/2000.”
Daisuke “Dice” Tsutsumi, the lead color key artist on “Robots” and the lead color designer on “Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!” was the art director on “Toy Story 3.”

Following the program, attendees will be able to view a selection of original works by Blair.

The Marc Davis Lecture on Animation was established in 1994 to provide a forum for established film animators and other experts in the craft to share their experiences as well as explore with their colleagues the challenges of creating animation for the screen. The lecture is named in honor of the man who gave life to characters as diverse as Brer Rabbit, the beautiful Cinderella, Alice (of Wonderland fame), Tinkerbell, and the delightfully wicked Maleficent and Cruella De Vil.

Tickets for “Mary Blair’s World of Color: A Centennial Tribute” will go on sale Monday, October 3. Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID. They may be purchased online at www.oscars.org, by mail, in person at the Academy during regular business hours or, depending on availability, on the night of the program when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. The Samuel Goldwyn Theater is located at 8949 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills. Focus on Chicago Filmmakers at 47th Chicago International Film Festival

CHICAGO, IL – Cinema/Chicago announced that the 47Th Chicago International Film Festival will spotlight a diverse group of actors and filmmakers with Illinois and Chicago connections through two unique Festival programs: City & State and Chicago Connections.

From the Opening Night Presentation of The Last Rites of Joe May starring longtime Chicago thespian Dennis Farina to Xan Aranda’s look into the inner world of Chicago-bred musician Andrew Bird (Andrew Bird: Fever Year), and a short film program featuring promising new Illinois filmmakers (Shorts 1: City & State), this year’s City & State picks showcase the best features, documentaries and short films with roots in Chicago or Illinois. A Festival jury will select the best film in this category, which will be presented with the Chicago Award.

Chicago Connections, a ticketed series of screenings, discussions and Q&A’s, will honor notable native Chicagoans John C. Reilly, Haskell Wexler, Joe Swanberg, Ken Nordine, Braden King and Eric Monte, who have each left their special mark on the film industry. The fifteen-year anniversary of the Black Perspectives Program will be celebrated with a special presentation of the groundbreaking Chicago-set classic Cooley High.

CITY & STATE

Andrew Bird: Fever Year USA (Director: Xan Aranda) Classically trained yet utterly unconventional, musician Andrew Bird has been defying classification for 20 albums and countless live shows. And though Fever Year covers the final months of the artist’s last tour, it’s as much about the creative process as it is about performance. From the handcrafted gramophone-like amplifiers to Bird’s uniquely creative looping techniques, the film’s sensuous visual style is a match for the musician whose combination of voice, violin, and whistle could charm Hades himself. Chicago Premiere.

· Dir. Xan Aranda is Illinois born and raised and currently lives in Chicago. Andrew Bird was born in Chicago and graduated from Lake Forest High School in 1991 and Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in violin performance in 1996.

Joint Body USA (Director: Brian Jun) – Noir-infused characters, with plenty to be paranoid about, are thrown together in a desperate situation when recent parolee Nick Burke (Lost’s Mark Pellegrino) comes to the aid of Michelle (Friday Night Lights’ Alicia Witt), an exotic dancer living in a mysterious self-imposed exile in downstate Illinois. When they’re forced to team up and go on the lam, the two wonder whether they can even trust each other. Chicago Premiere.

· Dir. Brian Jun is from Alton, IL, where the film was shot and set.

The Last Rites of Joe May USA (Director: Joe Maggio) – The Chicago International Film Festival is honored to celebrate the latest creation from two giant Chicago institutions: Dennis Farina and the Steppenwolf Theater Company. Farina (Get Shorty, Out of Sight, Law and Order) gives the finest performance of his career as an aging hustler whose way of life is at a crossroads in this film shot in Chicago’s West Town neighborhood. Written and directed by Festival veteran Joe Maggio and featuring members of the Steppenwolf ensemble, The Last Rites of Joe May is a prime example of the vitality of Chicago filmmaking. Chicago Premiere.

· Born in Chicago, Actor Dennis Farina was formerly a Chicago police officer and began his acting career at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre. Co-star Gary Cole is from Park Ridge, Illinois and also began his acting career at the Steppenwolf Theatre. The film is set and shot on Chicago’s West side.

Patang India (Director: Prashant Bhargava) – Can you ever really go home again? In Chicago-born Prashant Bhargava’s visually stunning feature debut, a successful Delhi businessman returns to his familial home, urban-bred daughter in tow, for a surprise visit during India’s largest kite festival. The excitement of their homecoming soon fades as long-held resentments and distrust surface. Chicago Premiere.

· Dir. Prashant Bhargava is a Chicago native. Patang was written and post-produced in Chicago.

The Return of Joe Rich USA (Director: Sam Auster) – He lost his job, his wife and his home, but not his sense of honor. When Joe returns to Chicago he looks up his aging but still dangerous Uncle Dom in the hopes of getting “connected” and living the life of a made man. When Uncle Dom resists, Joe makes him an offer he can’t refuse. World Premiere.

· Dir. Sam Auster was born in Chicago and attended Columbia College Chicago film school. Actor Sam Witwer grew up in Glenview, IL. The film is set and shot in Chicago.

Sadermania: From Fanship to Friendship  USA (Director: Adam Gacka) – Calling all Hulkamaniacs! When you’re done training, taking your vitamins, and saying your prayers, then you can meet the purest fan of all, Chris Sader, in a story that goes from childhood obsession to an unexpected and touching friendship. In this inspirational tale, Chris and Hulk Hogan relate how they met and developed a bond through mutual struggles and personal loss that each would have faced alone if not for the unlikely bond that develops between them. World Premiere.

· The documentary was shot in Chicago and its subject, Chris Sader, lives in Chicago.

SHORTS 1: CITY AND STATE
A mixture of narrative, documentary and animated short films shining the light on talented local filmmakers.

12 year old Kyle Krichbaum has an unusual and fascinating hobby in THE VACUUM KID. A teenager’s commute through Chicago in a blizzard reinforces her corrosive spirit in L TRAIN.

THE GHOSTS is a 50’s style tale of a wild gang of juvenile delinquents who take the life of a sleepy little town, and an innocent young girl, by storm. Tim Burton fans will love THE DOCTOR’S WIFE, an animated musical love letter to Frankenstein. A chain gang prisoner desperately dreams of a break in the atmospheric WINTER. A young woman is keeping something from her concerned husband in THE TRUTH.
