Breakout Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (THE PUSHER Trilogy, BRONSON, VALHALLA RISING) throttles into the Hollywood fast lane with precision-crafted action caper DRIVE.
Ryan Gosling stars as a Los Angeles wheelman for hire, stunt driving for movie productions by day and steering getaway vehicles for armed heists by night. Though a loner by nature, Driver can’t help falling in love with his beautiful neighbor Irene (Carey Mulligan), a vulnerable young mother dragged into a dangerous underworld by the return of her ex-convict husband Standard (Oscar Isaac).
After a heist intended to pay off Standard’s protection money spins unpredictably out of control, Driver finds himself driving defense for the girl he loves, tailgated by a syndicate of deadly serious criminals (Albert Brooks and Ron Perlman). But when he realizes that the gangsters are after more than a bag of cash in his trunk — that they’re coming straight for Irene and her son — Driver is forced to shift gears and go on offense. With an all-star supporting cast that includes Christina Hendricks and Bryan Cranston, DRIVE is based on the James Sallis novel of the same name.

I prefer the older ones. The Black Dahlia murder comes to mind and the Red Lipstick murder, I think, was in the same time frame.
My favorite is L.A. Confidential
My favorite L.A. crime stories are “Chinatown” and “L.A. Confidential.” I also like “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.”
rush hour
Chinatown. Any other answer should be shot in the eye.
china town
China Town
If we are talking about true LA crime stories I would have to say that I am most interested in the Billionaire Boys Club murders. Their crimes inspired another LA crime story; the Menendez Murders. The defendent in the Billionaire Boys Club murders went on to defend himself in his second murder trial. Although he was found guilty; he is the only person in history to defend himself and not get the death penalty. Why hasn’t this been made into a major motion picture?
L.A. Confidential

My favorite is the one with Keven Spacey & Gabriel Byrne, but I can’t think of the title, so I’ll go with Beverly Hills Cop & 48 Hours
I’m going with the Black Dahlia. I love that time period for crime movies!
I think I would have to say that Mulholland Falls was a classic with a great all-star cast.

Boyz n the Hood
At the risk of repeating alot of other people, China Town.
I loved Tequila Sunrise! Too bad not many people today have seen it.
I love a good story and its thrilling. So L.A Confidential is awesome and Sunset Boulevard is a great classic but its more of a film noir.
I think of the Black Dahlia, I’m very into the older “vintage” crimes…more mystery and depth than the more recent gang crimes.
LA Confidential, but in my younger years, there was a program called 77 Sunset Strip, with Ed Byrnes, known as KOOKIE, I love LA.
I think most others hit on the head with the works of James Ellroy, LA Confidential and the Black Dahlia. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is of course also awesome.
A less obvious answer would be a different kind of noir set in LA: Blade Runner, where Harrison Ford hunts renegade Replicants in the future of LA.
My favorite LA crime stories is CSI and Law & Order.
Loved Chinatown. A classic.
beverly Hills Cop, just GREAT
