Created by award-winning animator Joe Murray for Nickelodeon, Rocko’s Modern Life is one of the most enduring Nick animated classics. The hit series boasts an all-star voice cast – Carlos Alazraqui (CatDog,Reno 911), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants, Transformers animated series), Charlie Adler (The Super Hero Squad Show, Transformers), and Doug Lawrence (SpongeBob SquarePants, Camp Lazlo).
A favorite with viewers and critics alike, Rocko’s Modern Life debuted in 1993. Over the course of its four-season run on Nickelodeon, the series garnered a Daytime Emmy® Award and an Environmental Media Award. Brimming with anthropomorphic social satire and offbeat humor, Rocko’s Modern Life follows the misadventures of Australian wallaby named Rocko, who encounters various dilemmas and situations regarding otherwise mundane aspects of life. His best friend, Heffer, is a fat and enthusiastic cow, while his other friend, Filburt, is an easily upset turtle who often feels uncomfortable or disturbed. Ed Bighead lives next door to Rocko and detests him. These folks live in a bizarre district known as O-Town, and most of the episodes revolve around Rocko trying to cope with the absurdities and dilemmas he encounters in life.
Rocko’s Modern Life is a production of Joe Murray Productions and the Nickelodeon Animation Studios. It has been sub-licensed for home video distribution to Shout! Factory by Paramount Home Entertainment and Nickelodeon.
Emmy® is a registeredtrademark of the Academy for Television Arts & Sciences/The National Academy for Television Arts & Sciences.

HOLY FUCKIN ASS CRACKERS I LOVE THIS SHOW!! I MUST WIN!!! FUN FACT: A version of the theme song was sung by the B-52′s
In one episode the gang were hounded by a sea creature who loved cheese, Philbert found this particularly creepy.
Favorite episode of all time was the golf course episode with the piano missiles! Heffer was the greens keeper and I laughed so hard I cried. Best nicktoon of all time period!
the cow is his idiot best friend. i used to love this show when i was little. i was sad when it cancelled
Joe Murray also created Camp Lazlo! which aired on Cartoon Network
“Bad luck and misfortune will infest your pathetic soul for all eternity” – Filbert’s fortune cookie
In the first two seasons, the diner where the characters always eat is “Chokey Chicken”, which has a giant choking chicken as a mascot.
I am obsessed with Rocko to the max! I’m sure we all know that he is a wallaby and not a kangaroo. Here’s a fun fact not many people know: in the original pilot, Rocko was colored yellow. Joe Murray, the creator, changed his color to beige because the toy company said that they would not market dolls that were yellow since they already had a yellow character that looked similar to Rocko. Even after Murray changed the color (which he disliked doing), the company decided not to make the dolls.
Holy macaroni!!! I freaking loved this show I must have it!!!!!
Some of my favorite facts about the show…..
Jobs held by the main five characters: – Rocko: Mostly as a comic store employee, but has also spent time as a runway underwear model and an animator. – Filbert: It was established in one episode that the turtle is a professional photographer. He has also spent time as a lounge singer, a clerk for the DMV and an animator. – Heffer: Has had the most jobs including security guard, golf course greens-keeper, coffee shop barista, animator, and Chewey Chicken employee. – Mr. Bighead: Works for Conglomo as an executive in many departments. – Mrs. Bighead: Is a housewife who spent a week as a Conglomo top executive.
My random fact: The voice of Heffer Wolfe is also the voice of Spounge Bob square pants!! (Tom Kenny)
Originally, the character Rocko appeared in an unpublished comic book titled Ugly. Murray tried selling the comic book in the late 1980s, between illustrating jobs, and did not find success in getting it into production. Many other characters appeared in various sketchbooks. Murray wanted funding for his independent film My Dog Zero, so he wanted Nickelodeon to pre-buy television rights for the series. He presented a pencil test to Nickelodeon Animation, which afterward became interested in buying and financing the show.
For a kid’s cartoon, this show was pretty edgy and had a lot of adult humor I didn’t even realize or appreciate until Nicktoons Network started playing re-runs of nearly a decade later.
My fun fact: Richard Simmons voiced an aerobics trainer in an episode during the first season, who really favored him in his own workout videos.
Fun Facts:there are a total of 4 seasons of Rockos Modern Life and a total of 52 episodes all together! and the shows original air run was from september 12th 1993 – october 1st 1996 :)
Rockos appendix is named pinky! And his neighbors are frogs the Bigheads
The show got canceled due to Really Really Big Mans Nipples of the Future.
Heoffard, always had to explain that he was not a cow. He was adament that he was a steer. By saying that he was a steer, as opposed to a bull, he was therefore implying that he had been castrated. That always unnerved me.
And the name Heffer means a young female who hasn’t given birth yet… Poor Hef must be confused ;p
Rocko has a crush on his neighbor Melbo
Heffer, is a fat and enthusiastic cow, while his other friend, Filburt, is an easily upset turtle who often feels uncomfortable or disturbed. Ed Bighead lives next door to Rocko and detests him. These folks live in a bizarre district known as O-Town, and most of the episodes revolve around Rocko trying to cope with the absurdities and dilemmas he encounters in life.
Fun Fact: “Sucker for the Suck-O-Matic” was originally written as the pilot. Executives decided Heffer would be too weird for test audiences, so Murray wrote “Trash-O-Madness” as the pilot episode.
My god, it feels like I’ve been waiting most of my life for this DVD set! I have missed Rocko so much.
