Dolores Fuller, Ed Wood Star and Elvis Songwriter, Dead at 88

By  |

Best known as Ed Wood’s girlfriend and co-star of his films GLEN OR GLENDA (1953), JAIL BAIT (1954), and BRIDE OF THE MONSTER (1955), Dolores Fuller had a bit part opposite Clark Gable in IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT (1934) and co-starred in the cult fave MESA OF LOST WOMEN (1953). When she attended horror movie conventions, she always brought her white angora sweater that she wore in Wood’s films and let fans wear it for photos. Less-known about Ms Fuller is that she was an accomplished and prolific songwriter. She wrote for Elvis and penned songs that were featured in twelve of his films (!), the most famous being Rock-A-Hula Baby from BLUE HAWAII. Fuller was 88, led quite a life, and was known as a warm human being.

Fuller hated the way Sarah Jessica Parker played her in Tim Burton’s Ed Wood bio-pic in 1994. Here’s an interview with her where she discusses her displeasure with Parker’s characterization.

I was a friend of Dolores and she also starred in my production of “The Ironbound Vampire.” She was a lovely woman who can entertain everyone with the various and colorful stories of her life. She will surely be missed.

There’s only one other site reporting this–not Wikipedia, not imdb, no news sources. What gives? Where does this story originate?

Having some kind of backing info is not “revealing your sources”. Cause of death? Where? When? Until there’s more info or some sort of corroboration this is less “news” than it is internet rumor.

It’s not a rumor. The woman has died. We don’t print rumors here at We Are Movie Geeks. The fact that it’s not hit other news sites just shows how ahead of the curve we are. I’m sure details will surface, but you read it first here.

Delores Fuller contributed a lot more than she’s given credit for. Rest her soul.

Also, on a sidenote: I always thought Sarah Jessica Parker was kind of a bitch :/

I’m often in contact with her husband, Phillip and Dolores has been ill for quite some time. I received a call from Phillip shortly after she died. Her book, “A Fuller Life” will give you a greater appreciation of this wonderful, talented woman.

Both Dolores and her husband Dr. Philip Chamberlin were in my estimation Earth Angels. Truly beautiful people with kind and giving hearts. It was truly a pleasure and a privilege to have had the opportunity to work with them both on Dolores’s autobiography. She indeedled a fascinating life.
