Hollywood Legend Jane Russell Dead at 89

Howard Hughes’ paramour, cultural icon, and one of the original busty bombshells has passed away at age 89. Jane Russell was know more for her figure and Hollywood romances than her films but did co-star in several classics including GENTLEMAN PREFER BLONDES, PALEFACE (opposite Bob Hope), and Hughes’ THE OUTLAW. I always liked her in the first Billy Jack film BORN LOSERS. She hadn’t acted since the mid-80′s but had been a regular on the autograph show circuit up until very recently. We’ll miss her……and the twins.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Jane Russell, whose voluptuous good looks won the attention of millionaire Howard Hughes and launched her on a movie career, died Monday of respiratory failure at her home in Santa Maria, Calif. She was 89.

  1. She elevated nearly everything she was in just by her presence. She had a real knack for comedy which was largely wasted; producers & directors preferred to cast her based on her sultry good looks as a seductress or tough dame. She also pushed the boundaries of censorship (albeit somewhat overhyped), first with THE OUTLAW and then with THE FRENCH LINE, on showing the female form in a tasteful yet sexy manner. Jane was a great star in a time when there were a lot of stars. It’s sad to lose her.

  2. Mrs. Russell was a Great Dame and a Good Actress, in spite of the Censor Critics who tried to destroy he career.
I was a young kid when I saw her in person in Buenos Aires Argentina in the company of Howard Hughes, promoting one of her films.

What a Beautiful and Sexy Lady she was…
