SYNOPSIS: In this comedy, Emma (Natalie Portman) and Adam (Ashton Kutcher) are life-long friends who almost ruin everything by having sex one morning. In order to protect their friendship, they make a pact to keep their relationship strictly “not strings attached”. “No strings” means no jealousy, no expectations, no fighting, no flowers, no baby voices. It means they can do whatever they want, whenever they want, in whatever public place they want, as long as they don’t fall in love. The question becomes – who’s going to fall first? And can their friendship survive?

  1. no, being friends with benefits will only last for a short period of time before one of you either starts to have more feelings for the other or one of you finds someone else and ends the benefits portion of the arrangement.

  2. I think it could work! Could go either way though, either fall in love or destroy a great friendship!

  3. “Do you think that friends can have a sexual relationship without ruining the friendship?” No there is too much emotional baggage to deal with.

  4. Todd Detmer says:

I think it depends on the people involved. I personally could not, but I know many people who have successfully pulled it off.

  5. Judy Omre says:

I couldn’t. But I suppose there are those that could. Everyone is different, but I would suspect that most women would have a problem detaching the two. Now if both fall in love, then that’s a different story.

  6. It could go either way. True friends may be able to survive the change in the relationship, but I think it would take some time. There’s bound to be some arguing etc. as they adjust to the new relationship. If they make it over that hurdle then they may stand a chance. Mere acquaintances would never make it though. They don’t know each other well enough and are just there for the sex.

  7. I don’t think friends can have an intimate relationship and it work. Someone would eventually start to have feelings for the other and if it wasn’t mutual then the friendship would be ruined.

  8. I have tried this type of relationship before and it does not work!!! One person is always good with just the sex and the other always begins to have feelings. God forbid if one of them gets involved with another person!!!

  9. If they have the same awesome carnal skill set…..hell yeah.

  10. I don’t think it is possible to have a sexual relationship with a friend and have a lasting friendship. When things end I think the friendship will too.

  11. Friends with benefits can be fun at first, but will not last. Something always happens where feelings get more involved and it screws up everything!

  12. I think that in the end it would destroy the friendship unless they end up falling in love!!

  13. Certainly it is possible to have a sexual relationship without ruining a friendship. I have been enjoying such an arrangement for the past 4 years, and I see no end in sight.

  14. It will only work got a brief period of time. Eventually someone will develop feelings. If it isn’t mutual, that will be the end of the friendship.

  15. It depends on how you define friends – in most instances I would say no.

  16. Nope I don’t think it is possible.

  17. Yes. In the best situations, you can become lovers and friends.

  18. No! Someone will start to develop an emotional attachment and the friendship would be ruined.

  19. Nope. Sex will always develop other feelings even if only in one person. Friendship sabotage.
