If you are ready for the showdown, we’ve got free passes to TRUE GRIT on December 14th at the Great Escape/Gravois Bluffs at 7pm.

Synopsis:
Fourteen-year-old Mattie Ross’s (Hailee Steinfeld) father has been shot in cold blood by the coward Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), and she is determined to bring him to justice. Enlisting the help of a trigger-happy, drunken U.S. Marshal, Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), she sets out with him — over his objections — to hunt down Chaney. Her father’s blood demands that she pursue the criminal into Indian territory and find him before a Texas Ranger named LeBoeuf (Matt Damon) catches him and brings him back to Texas for the murder of another man.

Though Westerns are not particularly a favorite of mine (not that I don’t want to see True Grit), Butch Cassidy truly is the cream of the crop. I’m just disappointed I wasn’t able to point it out first.

Clint Eastwood did a lot of them but Unforgiven is probably my top pick

I really enjoy the Man with No Name trilogy with Eastwood. Young Guns is always entertaining, too though.
My favorite western is Cat Ballou.

Sergio Leone’s 1968 Masterpiece “Once Upon A Time In The West.” Absolutely stunning cinematography, and great dialogue. Not a wasted moment in that movie!

The greatest movie ever made, and the one that American critics got so wrong.

Great character study, excellent performances, great score. An amazing movie. Wholesome Henry Fonda was pure evil. Beautifully filmed and paced. I saw it at the old Loew’s State Theater when it first came out(1968, and it was the most powerful movie going experience I had.
Me and the other guy who picked Tombstone should win. Yup, Tombstone is the winning answer.
The Good,The Bad and The Ugly is I think the best Western movie I’ve enjoyed watching over and over again. It’s classic!

I didn’t grow up watching Westerns, so my favorite is a recent one – The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. It may be slow and lacking the action of most Westerns, but that movie has some great acting and awesome visuals.
For a more “normal” Western, I loved the remake of 3:10 to Yuma.
