Synopsis:
BLACK SWAN follows the story of Nina (Portman), a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her retired ballerina mother Erica (Barbara Hershey) who zealously supports her daughter’s professional ambition. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Winona Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.
Directed by Darren Aronofsky (THE WRESTLER), written by Mark Heyman, & produced by Scott Franklin, Mike Medavoy, Brian Oliver, Arnold Messer, BLACK SWAN stars Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Vincent Cassel, Barbara Hershey and Winona Ryder. The film is rated R for strong sexual content, disturbing violent images, language and some drug use.

‘THE WRESTLER’ IS DARREN ARONOFSKY’S BEST FILM
THE BEST FILMBY DAREN ARONOFSKY HAD TO BE
THE WRESTLER
MICKEY WON AN OCSAR FOR IT
Mickey did not win the oscar for the wrestler. He was nominated for the award but he did not win. Mickey won a BAFTA and a Golden Globe but he lost the Academy Award to Sean Penn for Milk. Also, I would agree that The Wrestler is the best Darren Aronofsky film; except I already saw Black Swan at the SLIFF and it totally trumps all of his previous films.
The only film he directed that I can honestly say worth seeing is the Wrestler.
“The Wrestler” is hands down my favorite Darren Aronofsky film followed by “Requiem for a Dream” and “Pi” both of which are superb films as well!
The Wrestler is his best film so far. Looking forward to Black Swan though.
The Wrestler
I loved the Wrestler, a really great film even if it was a little bit difficult to watch – I can’t wait to see the Black Swan!
Wrestler was his best so far but the swan looks real good
The wrestler, I’m a fan of professional wrestling.
Requiem for a Dream to change things up.
Please…..what this man accomplished in The Fountain
(and in only 96 minutes) will never be duplicated by
an American director……..so glad Pitt bailed out.
Mick gets most of the credit for The Wrestler.
The Wrestler is my favorite Aronofsky film. I can’t wait for Black Swan, haven’t been this excited to see a movie in a long time!
Requiem for a Dream
The Wrestler was the best by far. Then Requiem for a Dream for sure.
Has to be “The Wrestler.”
I’m pretty sure it will be “Black Swan”
The Fountain is my favorite.
I’d go with the Requiem for a Dream. The Ellen Burstyn character could possibly have been the saddest, most pitiable female character ever put to screen.
I’d have to pick The Wrestler as Aronofsky’s best film, but Black Swan may be much better.
The Wrestler
Pi, but I remember the first I ever saw Darren was on 60 Minutes. Vin Deisel was also features. Would love to see Black Swan.
The fountain was his best film.
It’s a toss up between Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler. However, my love of Mickey Rourke sways that tie sometimes.
My favorite is “Requiem for a Dream” as well
The Wrestler is his best work, but I am looking forward to Black Swan!
Requiem for a Dream… not an easy film to watch, but fantastic performances.
The Wrestler!
But I must get these tickets to surprise my daughter! – she was a ballet dancer for 21 years and her biggest show was playing both the White & Black Swan in St. Louis in 2002 – this is her story as the director did not think she could do the Black Swan because she was thought of as so innocent, but she pulled it off!
the wrestler was devastating.
Wrestler was the best.
The Fountain, I really hope to win this for a friend of mine!!
The Fountain!
The Wrestler
My favorite Darren Aronofsky film is Requiem for a Dream
My favorite movie so far is the fountain, but I have a feeling this might take its place.
