Movie Geek rides in THE GREEN HORNET’S Black Beauty!
I always like the simplicity of The Green Hornet’s ‘Black Beauty’. The 1966 Chrysler Imperial was boxy yet streamlined, unadorned with logos and emblems and really lived up to its name. I had the Aurora model kit of the car as a kid as well as the die-cast Corgi toy that shot day-glow red missiles out of the front. I recently purchased repro toys of both of these and still have an original Green Hornet lunchbox. I was thrilled to hear that they were going to use the same make of car for the upcoming Green Hornet movie starring Seth Rogan. Columbia Pictures is taking the new Black Beauty on the road for a promotional tour and it was parked at the Ronnies Cinema here in St. Louis last night so I went up there to see it. There were plenty of people standing around looking at it, and when it was time to drive it back into its truck, Dave, the guy who’s hauling it around the country (not a bad gig), offered to drive me around the parking lot in it. The engine didn’t sound too healthy but it was loud enough to set off some car alarms and it was a lot of fun. Now I can cross one more thing off of my Bucket List!
THE GREEN HORNET will be released in 3D in theaters nationwide on January 14, 2011.
