SUPER-8 MOVIE MADNESS DISASTER NIGHT in ‘SENSURROUND’
SUPER-8 MOVIE MADNESS DISASTER NIGHT in ‘SENSURROUND’ will be held on Tuesday April 6 from 8pm to Midnight at the Way Out Club. The cover charge is a bargain at a measly $3.00. There will be, as usual, movie passes, T-Shirts and poster giveaways. If you’re not familiar with the madness, here’s a brief rundown: Remember (before video tapes) the Super-8 films they used to sell in the 1950’s and 60’s that were condensed versions of features? In the 1970’s they sold SOUND versions of these films and 16 of these will be projected on a large screen at the Way Out Club (they average about 15 minutes each).
This is our 7th monthly show and on April 6, we will be doing something amazing. The theme is ‘Disaster Night’ and we will be showing six classic disaster films: THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, THE TOWERING INFERNO, EARTH VS FLYING SAUCERS, METEOR, EARTHQUAKE, and DISASTER FIGHTERS (a documentary with great vintage footage). It gets better! EARTHQUAKE and another film we’re showing, the WWII epic MIDWAY, were two of the original films shown in ‘Sensurround’ in the mid 1970’s. Sensurround was an enhanced audio experience that actually shook theatres by boosting low frequency sound and we will be working with some of the finest local old-school audio engineers and RECREATING ‘Sensurround’ at the Way Out Club April 6! Not only that, but we will be showing THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, which predated ‘Sensurround’, in ‘Sensurround’ for the first time ever. That’s right, we will be making cinema history at the Way Out Club April 6! You do NOT want to miss being a part of this! Bring your seatbelts and hardhats!
The other (non-disaster) films showing April 6 are: 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD, The Three Stooges in THREE PESTS IN A MESS, W.C. Fields in THE BANK DICK, TARANTULA, Frank Sinatra in THE DETECTIVE, HOUSE OF DRACULA, THE MUMMY’S SHROUD (Hammer Horror), and a Trailer reel of ‘70’s vampire films.
The Way Out Club is located at 2525 Jefferson Avenue in South St. Louis (corner of Jefferson and Sidney). The Way Out is a 21+ club with a full bar and they sell yummy Way Out Pizzas for $8.00 so make an evening of it. Spread the word to all St. Louis-area movie-lovers. Come to the Way Out April 6 to experience the Madness and be sure to listen to the radio show ‘Max at the Movies’ on 97.1FM this Saturday (April 3) sometime between 2 and 4pm. Max has invited me to join him on the air to discuss SUPER-8 MOVIE MADNESS DISASTER NIGHT in ‘SENSURROUND’!
