Fincher SACRIFICEs PAWN for DRAGON TATTOO

And then two projects became one.  We let you know a few weeks ago that director David Fincher was circling two, different projects, the Bobby Fischer biopic, PAWN SACRIFICE, and the US remake of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO.  Evidently, Fincher likes girls with tattoos more than he likes chess, because the latter project won out.  According to the Playlist, DRAGON TATTOO has been confirmed as Fincher’s next film.

Rumors of Carey Mulligan being groomed for the lead role are just that, rumors.  Fincher evidently wants an unknown for the role, and Sony, who is behind DRAGON TATTOO and Fincher’s next release, THE SOCIAL NETWORK, couldn’t be happier with Fincher right now.  THE SOCIAL NETWORK, by the way, is set to release in October.  Fincher plans to begin shooting DRAGON TATTOO around this same time.

While it still irks me somewhat to see a US remake of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO already in the works, I have faith Fincher won’t just make a retread of a film we’ve already seen.  If he’s come on board, that means he has an angle he has found with the original story that will make it his own.  It will be interesting to see how the two films, the original, Swedish film and Fincher’s, will compare.
