New ROBIN HOOD Trailer Says More in Opening 5 Seconds Than We Needed to Hear
The new (and, seemingly, final) trailer for the latest Ridley Scott/Russell Crowe collaboration, ROBIN HOOD, has been released courtesy of Yahoo! Movies, and that opening shot might be a little too telling. No, I’m not talking about the guys on horseback charging across a sandy beach towards a grounded ship. I’m talking about the actual green band that accompanies the trailer. It divulges that the film has been granted a PG-13 rating.
Suddenly, the thought that this would be GLADIATOR with arrows has slipped away. That idea, actually, sounded pretty cool. When I first glanced at Brian Helgeland’s first draft of the film, I noticed how savage it was, how authentic and brutal the violence felt on the page. Alas, that was a few years ago, and the film has gone through some major rewrites. Evidently, the savagery has been completely excised. Now, I fear, we are left with just another Hollywood rendition of the classic tale of Robin and his merry men.
I could be wrong. I hope I’m wrong. This new trailer certainly doesn’t do much to tell me I’m wrong, though. It does, however, give us our first good looks at Kevin Durand as Little John and Mark Strong, who, I fear, is getting to be typecast in these villainous roles, as Sir Godfrey. It’s also nice to see Maid Marion, played by Cate Blanchett, taking bow and arrow in hand and doing some damage of her own in this one.
See for yourself:
ROBIN HOOD hits theaters on May 14th.

Looks pretty tame and lame. I'm pretty sure I saw about 6 or 7 classic scenes from other movies, including Gladiator, rehashed and all mashed up. I'm sure it will still be a pretty decent movie going experience, few Ridley Scott films fail in that regard and I can certainly appreciate that. A little disappointed the lead man couldn't slim down a bit more…. he doesn't exactly look that agile. I always enjoy Cate. I'll probably still go see it but only for the popcorn experience.
this is complete bullshit. the original idea that was called "Nottingham" was much more interesting. It was rumored that Russell Crowe was the Sheriff of Nottingham and Christian Bale was going to play Robin Hood in a role reversal with Robin as an actual hood and the Sheriff the protagonist, with Maid Marion in the middle that involved a love triangle. That went out the door, which I was willing to live with. But now my expectations aren't nearly as high considering it is PG-13. Fans needed to see a graphic and gritty Robin Hood the way the story actually played out. I'm sure I will go see this since I think Ridley Scott is one of the most talented veteran directors out there. I mean check out this rap sheet: Alien, Blade Runner, Legend, Thelma and Louise, White Squall, GI Jane, Gladiator, Hannibal, Black Hawk Down, Matchstick Men, Kingdom of Heaven, American Gangster, and his latest Body of Lies. I've heard his next projects include a film adaption of Brave New World starring Leonardo DiCaprio as well as a 3D prequel to Alien. He has yet to fail as a filmmaker so I'm sure Robin Hood will deliver. It's just bullshit that studios feel they have to edit down summer blockbusters because they think that an R rating will bring in less money. Look how well 300 did and that didn't have any high profile leading actors or a well known director. I'm so sick of these studio fucks just thinking about dollar signs and not about making a film better and more realistic.
