I just finished the book about two weeks ago and I loved every minute of it. The desolation and journey of father and son were incredible. I cant wait for the movie to go international. When I heard about it being made into a movie I was very excited. There were many depressing scenes but each added to the atmosphere.

I couldn't agree more, however I'm inclined to say it's even better! Just got home from seeing this and... WOW! First of all, anyone who sees this film should know it is a VERY tough movie. By tough, I mean you will NOT leave this movie feeling good, about ANYTHING! Except, of course, that you just experienced one of the best, most depressing films of your entire life. Rank it up there with REQUIEM FOR A DREAM and HOUSE OF SAND AND FOG, just to give you an idea. Despite the lack of vibrant color, this is possibly the best shot film I've seen this year, definitely in the top 5 at least. There is such photographic beauty in the devastation caught on camera. I felt thoroughly engrossed in the story, which was surprisingly a bit slower-paced than I expected and nearly the entire film is The Man and The Boy. I have not read the book, and to be honest... I'm not sure I could after seeing the movie. On a side note, I decided not to eat anything today after a fairly light breakfast, specifically so that I could go into the movie feeling hunger. While it's clearly not the same as what The Man and his son experience in the film, I wanted to experiment and see if it made the movie more real. Unfortunately, it's tough to say, since I hadn't seen the movie without being hungry as a control (real scientific, huh?) but, I can say that I was absolutely hypnotized by the film and felt every bit bit of the pain and despair and empty hopelessness that the story had to offer. Brilliant!
