AVATAR Aiming For a Lame Best Song Oscar
![]()
Yes, it’s lame, and I apologize to you die-hard “My Heart Will Go On” fans out there. It was released today by Atlantic Records that James Horner’s score for AVATAR would be hitting CD shelves on December 15th. With this announcement came word that not only would the soundtrack be filled with Horner’s score, but it will also be including an original song, “I See You,” performed by Leona Lewis.
For those of you who don’t know who that is (I had to look it up myself), she is a multi-platinum and three-time Grammy nominated R&B singer songwriter. The song, which, honestly, should have been written about seven years ago for that little-seen Stallone vehicle, EYE SEE YOU, is also being co-produced by Horner and Simon Franglen, both of whom did producing work on TITANIC’s Academy Award winning song. A companion music video is currently being produced for “I See You.”
Personally, this sounds like a lame attempt at trying to get an Academy Award. Like Adam Lambert doing a song for 2012 or Josh Groban doing the song at the end of TROY, “I See You” already feels out of place. In fact, about the only time a song over the end credits of a big sci-fi/fantasy film like this has worked was when Aerosmith didn’t want to close their eyes for ARMAGEDDON.
What do you think? Is “I See You” just an unnecessary attempt to pick up a Best Original Song Oscar? Is there any way the song fits in well with the movie? What are your favorite end-credit songs? Let us know by commenting below!
AVATAR hits theaters on December 16th.

I thought that Josh Groban's singing and the song itself, "Remember Me" at the end of the movie Troy was just spectacular. It's a beautiful song, TIMELESS. I think you are being too negative and critical which is LAME and THE USUAL thing to expect, I suppose.
Not too big into the song but hopefully the movie will be huge
Please don't judge this prematurely. We've seen clips from the movie but none of us has heard the song so there's no way we could comment yet if Leona Lewis' track would fit or not. Stop trying to be so negative.
Let's give this one a chance. It could work, you know.
Heard Leona Lewis sing. I like her. Have I seen this film? Hell not yet. For all we know maybe the song might even get bigger than the movie. Maybe singer and movie will complement each other. You're the one who's "LAME" for using that word in the title. Get some journalism lessons, pal.
Yeah haven't heard the song yet so lets not judge…and secondly….how did Remember Me by Josh Groban feel out of place in Troy?? The theme of the song played throughout the entire movie and it was a beautiful way to end what otherwise was a bad movie…in my opinion of course. Its kind of the same with my Heart will Go on but I can see where people think that song is cheesy…I actually like the instrumental cues that run in Titanic from the song….but not necessarily the song itself.
UHm not sure what the posters problem is here… Leona will always do an excelent job….
DO I detect some form of Jealousy here
If I were a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, now I’d say “Kowaunbga, dude!”
Well Kirk if you had to look up who Leona Lewis is you must have been living on another planet the last few years! She has become a worldwide singing sensation and is one of the best voices in the world! Kirk you sound like a freak to me!
leona lewis is by far the best singer to sing such a massive them song to avatar its going to be a hugh sucsess both film and song what a voice fab fab x
The song fits perfectly because of the connection through the words "I see you". Perfect movie, perfect song.
Such songs might work well for a movie like TITANIC… but not for a scifi-fantasy story like AVATAR !
James Horner´s epic music is great. But Leona Lewis´song is just disturbing.
Good that the song was for the end credits only…
But for AVATAR it would have been better to have another James Horner symphonic track for the end credits… playing some sort of main title, Na´vi choral included.
Anyway… for me… AVATAR is a great movie, Horner a great composer, Leona Lewis´song definitely not my cup of tea… and Led Zeppelin is the best Rock band of all time… lol !
I like the Avatar 3D movie, particularly the story line, not solely it brings a totally new sensation but inspiring thoughts of humanity. I heard the New Avatar 2 is comming soon, can’t wait to watch it again…!
