I would like to say you are close. Actually you should rent the children's movie called Fern Gully. Watch the entier movie and the light bulb in your brain should go off. I was watching it with my children and noticed specific events that are exactly the same as Avatar. So yes the movie is not as original as we would like it to be, but its still a good movie.
