American Beauty.
1) Annette Bening's breakdown after the open house
2) Spacey sticking it to his boss and leaving the company to flip burgers. And then serving his wife and her lover!
3) Mena Suvari on the bedroom ceiling
4) The huge plot twist concerning Chris Cooper.
5) etc.
American Beauty was awesome, but Away We Go just takes the cake for me. It really blew me out of the water and was so much more fantastic than what I thought it would be. Everything about it just clicked and had such good cohesion between each scene and plot progression that it's impossible to ignore. Everyone was on their game acting-wise, especially Maggie Gyllenhaal. An absolutely fantastic story, a great cast that's both big yet low-key, and the sweet spot for movie pace makes this one of the best movies of last year (in my opinion), as well as Mendes' best.
american beauty
American Beauty is the best to me… Annette Benning and Kevin Spacey are perfect, Chris Cooper is more than that!
I liked Revelutionary Road because Leonardo Dicpario was in it
My favorite Sam Mendes movie is definitly "Jarhead". Jake Gyllenhaal gives us one of his best performances in his career and the supporting actors are also really great (Jamie Foxx, Peter Sarsgaard).
The story of the movie is just perfectly told by the main character. It's sad, dramatic, depressing, humorous, intense and just so real..
I wish more people find the movie that great. The people should stop complaining about the fact that there is no political message in it, because it's just a true report by a soldier and his daily life in the gulf..
[sry for bad english skills, don't know if there are mistakes]
got to be road to perdition, tom hanks and irish gangsters yay
ROAD TO PERDITION. The main reason being its one of the least depressing of all the movies Mendes has directed.
American Beauty is one of my favorite "message about life" films, and I really liked how that was also a key aspect of Away We Go. Kevin Spacey's character had so many complex layers (demonstrated in how he bribed his boss, and defended his masturbating right next to his wife haha) but was also really easy to relate to, even as a 24-year-old female such as myself. Go Sam Mendes!!
I loved American Beauty. It has such great lines in it. Revolutionary Road has probably one of my favorite trailers of all time. The movie was okay, but the trailer was awesome.
Road To Perdition is my favorite Sam Mendes film! It's the one movie that I've seen all the way through that he's directed. Beautiful film!
Jarhead doesn't get the respect it deserves. It is so much more than a war movie. Mendes got amazing performances from Peter, Jake, and Jamie. Its an honest story told effectively and beautifully.
American Beauty has my favorite script of all his movies but I just watch Jarhead the most.
Away we go is honestly my favorite. It's a love story with real life kind of issues. It is also hillarious and has some wonderful actors like John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph. If I had to pick another film I would choose Road to Perdition. I've seen this film quite a few times and every time I am in awe. The cinematography and the feel of the film is so awesome. Of course Tom Hanks never fails to capture his role perfectly and the boy in the film was believable. These two films are great and two of my favorites overall.
Everything about ROAD TO PERDITION is extraordinary. There is not one element about that film (the story, the direction, Conrad Hall's glorious cinematography, the acting, the music by Thomas Newman) that misses in any way. By far my favorite of his movies, and definitely my favorite movie of 2002.
Road to perdition, i really liked the acting in this movie and it was amazing when i saw it in theatres
It's definitely Away We Go. What a great, quirky comedy! American Beauty is good, but not really a movie I'd watch more than once. The only thing I liked about Road to Perdition is Paul Newman.
