John Carpenter fans who have been waiting since 2001’s ‘Ghosts of Mars’ to see him return to the big screen may have to wait a little longer.   It was announced last year that the horror director and Nicolas Cage were coming together for ‘Riot,’ a film about a group of juvenile delinquents who, during a “Scared Straight” program, become embroiled in a prison riot.   Cage would play an inmate who helps the students escape.

It appears, according to Screen Rant, that this film is, in fact, dead.   They recently interviewed actress and producer Katie Chonacas who was in line to back the film, and this is what she had to say:

I don’t think t
he film “Riot” is happening anymore, it was part of a two-picture deal however Nic Cage has the option to replace “Riot” with another film.

Chonacas is currently starring alongside Cage in ‘Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.’   While Carpenter won’t be bringing ‘Riot’ to the big screen any time soon, he is currently shooting ‘The Ward’ starring Amber Heard.
