Roger Avary Back for ‘Silent Hill 2’

Maybe that tagline isn’t 100% accurate in regards to a ‘Silent Hill 2.’  Maybe we haven’t been expecting it, but, like Clint said in ‘Unforgiven,’ “Expects got nothing to do with it.”  He said something like that.  There might be a word or two different, but you get the point.

Expect or not, that’s not stopping Roger Avary and Samuel Hadida froming returning to their duties for ‘Silent Hill 2’ as screenwriter and producer, respectively.  Hadida’s Davis Films plans to shoot the film next year after work on ‘Resident Evil 4’ has completed.  Yeah, you didn’t know that little nugger was coming, either.  Did you?

While Tri-Star acted as distributor on the first film, it ended up making just under $47 million in domestic take, not exactly a solid offering for a film that cost a whole $50.  Tri-Star has not announced whether it will be returning to release the sequel.

Personally, I’m indifferent to a ‘Silent Hill 2.’  The first film was atmosphere over substance, but it was a visual treat.  The chances of Davis Films getting Christoph Gans back for the sequel don’t seem all that likely.  Time will tell.
