I’ve never heard of it being on VHS or laserdisc anywhere in the world. The DVD was supposed to be released by Code Red, but now it’s with Scorpion Releasing. I’ve emailed them about it, but haven’t gotten a reply.

I too saw the movie MANY times in 1977 while stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC. I also can’t understand why it’s not available on DVD, ’cause it’s a kick-ass flick – right up there with Death Wish.

I also saw this movie at the drive in. At the Duwamish Drive Inn, which now doesn’t exist. Those were the good old days. This film has always stuck in my mind. Highly under rated. I just watched Taxi Driver which is what is played with at the time. Both are classics. Let me know when released, appreciate it.

I also saw this movie in 1977 and have been looking for it ever
since. Great Movie put me on the list of people still looking
for a copy. Its amazing how many truly useless movies are on
dvd and this awesome action film has been overlooked. If my memory
still works after the 60′s this was like a cross between Mr. majestic and the mechanic. Brutal but excellant.

I too, like many here, saw this movie in 1977. It was one of those Sunday nights with nothing to do, so I walked a few blocks to a local theatre and thought I would check it out. I had never heard anything about it, but walked out thinking it was one of the best movies I had seen. The violence did not really stick with me, so I am a little surprised to read all the reports here of how violent the movie was. I just really liked the story, and the ending still ranks to me as one of the best surprise endings ever put in a movie. The soundtrack was great as well. I am a big Gene Clark fan, and have looked for years to find the movie or at least the soundtrack. As everyone here knows, to no avail. I will keep searching, and hopefully it will be released at some point. I WANT to see this movie again!

I have enough faith in my memory to say that this is no classic in the Grade A big budget sense. But it *IS* a classic in the Grade B, no-pretense action sense. I saw it in ’77 at the Puente Hills AMC (CA) and remember being surprised by the level of violence, particularly the scene when the one bad guy gets his feet taken out from under him by a shotgun. Even at sixteen I found the shotgun blast that propelled the guy through a wall over-the-top, but in a good way: It’s one of those images that entrenched itself in the minds of anyone who’s ever seen the movie (be honest: Can you think of another more memorable scene from “The Farmer”?). As someone else noted, someone is sitting on a gold mine here. I guarantee that there’s enough interest in this movie for a DVD release to turn a nice profit…

I too saw this film in 1977 while in the army, in a little 16 seat theater on the DMZ in Korea, it really was a great movie but it also holds a special memory for me, my best friend (in Korea) that I saw the movie with was killed 2 hours after we left the theater. So please put me on the list of contacts if it ever gets released.

I just heard that a commentary was done for The Farmer – but they are being very secretive about it. I contacted someone at grindhouse@tarantino.info and that is what they told me…so maybe someday soon it'll happen…keep your fingers crossed, guys…

I saw "The Farmer" in 1977 with "Taxi Driver" as the second feature. Talk about violence! I've been eagerly awaiting the DVD, though I'm worried that it won't be as good as I remember it (I was 13 when I saw it). What I remember the most is the ending, which I won't share here. But it was a perfect surprise ending of sorts.

For years I wondered if I just imagined seeing this film, I could never find any info on it. I saw it with a friend of mine, I'm sure my mother got us in, thanks mom. Anyway were a few scenes from the movie that remain etched in my brain. The one that sticks out the most is when the farmer is avenging his gal Betty's rape. He says to the guy " this one's from betty" and shoots the guy in the balls and then says "this one's from me" and blows the guys brains out. awesome film. I'd buy it in a second>
