Josh Hartnett Shoots for ‘Gunslinger’… Not that ‘Gunslinger’

No, that is not the face of Roland Deschain you see above, and, no, J.J Abrams has not finally decided to put his ‘Dark Tower’ rights to good use.  According to Variety, Josh Hartnett will, however, be starring in a film called ‘Gunslinger,’ billed as a Western in a post-apocalyptic world.  Well, that sure sounds like the ‘Gunslinger’ we’ve all been waiting for.  It’s not.

Hartnett will play a man in the near future, a snowy wasteland of a world, who, along with his brother, sets out to seek revenge against the gang who killed their parents.  Chris Nahon (‘Kiss of the Dragon’ and ‘Blood: The Last Vampire’) will be directing with Mark Williams (‘Running Scared’) and Albert Martinez Martin (‘Shuttle’) producing.

Here is what Williams had to say on the project:

This story takes a unique and startling look at what might happen when the lawlessness of the Old West returns … but with better weapons.

While filming is set to begin early next year in Canada, don’t be surprised if the film ends up going through a name change of some kind, particularly if Abrams decides he’s going to be making the ‘Dark Tower’ series any time soon.

  1. When I skimmed over the titles I only read the first half of this one and thought, "I've seen worse". And now I'm starting to think more and more that Hartnett could pull Roland Deschain off if he bulked up a little and put some grit in his voice. And now I'm pissed that all this thinking has been for naught.

  2. Why would Abrams do this. Just pull out the stops already! Do the real Gunslinger! Dark Tower, CHARGE FORWARD!!!!! What a waste. Unless this is some strange marketing strategy.

Lord of the Rings, Batman, Pirates, The Hobbit, Narnia, … … Superman, Spiderman, X-men,… It's Dark Tower time, man! Let's get that ball rollin.
