McFarlane Begins Work on New ‘Spawn’ Movie

spawn

The long wait may finally be over.  After years of “Spawn” creator Todd McFarlane talking about how he wants to go back and make another ‘Spawn’ movie (this time doing it just right), it seems he may have finally taken the first step to actually getting it done. Coming Soon is saying the comic writer has officially announced he has begun work on the screenplay for the new film.

McFarlane had this little bit of information to give on the new movie:

The story has been in my head for 7 or 8 years.  The movie idea is neither a recap or continuation. It is a standalone story that will be R-rated. Creepy and scary.

He also commented that the tone of the new ‘Spawn’ film would be for a much older audience than the 1997 version of the film that starred Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo, and Martin Sheen.  McFarlane likened the new film to ‘The Departed.’

Being a fan of the “Spawn” comic series since its inception, I cannot wait to see what McFarlane finally has in store for an R-rated film version.  The HBO, animated series was about as close to a perfect ‘Spawn’ movie we have had.  Let’s hope this new movie blows even that out of the water.

Hurry Up and get it out already before most of the world doesn't even remember Spawn.

"Tastes so good makes me wanna kick some puppies!!"
"Boy you were just tied to that track and that stupid train just kept runnin over ya didn't? Just Runnin over ya!"

  2. I LOVE the spawn series. I still have the first 30 issues or so, and I learned a great deal of my drawing style from Spawn and other McFarlane-brainchildren. I'm so happy to find out that they're going to do a version of this that is true to the source. Honestly, I think it's the recent trend of comic movies and the growing acceptance of making them dark and more geared towards the adults who grew up with them.

For another McFarlane project that you guys may or may not know about — http://www.38studios.com — McFarlane is teaming up with R.A.Salvatore as the creative forces behind a gaming studio.

Good things should come of this.
