Fantasy Cast: Who should play He-Man in ‘Grayskull’?

fantasycast

By the power of Grayskull… is it REALLY gonna happen? It seems so, but who knows? What we do know is that the 1980′s cartoon was extremely popular back then and today. It spawned a huge line of action figures and toys, the infamous cult classic live-action movie starring Dolph Lundgren in 1987, another animated series in 2002 that some even venture to call better than the original and even a video game in 2005. Now Warner Bros wants to bring the magic back, having optioned the rights and the project is undergoing multiple rewrites.

Assuming director John Stevenson (‘Kung Fu Panda’) actually does get his chance to tackle this hot commodity, he’ll have lots of source material to pull from. The original animated series was packed full of cool characters on the planet Eternia, although it seems the new film may end up suffering one of the same drawbacks of the original live-action attempt, in that it may end up taking place on Earth, rather than Prince Adam’s planet.

That leads me to the first obstacle if casting the film… who will play Prince Adam, whom of course, becomes the powerful He-Man by summoning the powers of Grayskull, his magical castle. Obviously, “certain” people would actually wish for Dolph Lundgren to be recast, but most of us sane people find that unwarranted and unlikely. Many professional wrestlers have been thrown into the casting rumor mill along with the regular celebrity names, such as Brad Pitt. However, I find the most interesting picks are always the relative unknowns or budding stars. Personally, my vote currently goes to Josh Holloway…

Dolph Lundgren Josh Holloway He-Man

The best part of discussing Masters of the Universe, or the newly titled ‘Grayskull’ as it turns out, are the characters both good and bad. For anyone worth their salt in 80′s cartoon fandom, the arch-nemesis of He-Man MUST be in the movie… that being Skeletor. In the 1987 film, Frank Langella was oddly cast as the maniacal, evil blue bodybuilder with a skull for a head. While he was grossly miscast with terribly rendered special FX and terribly adapted, Langella still did a decent job, but who could truly pull off that role?

Skeletor Evil-Lyn Man-At-Arms Beastman Teela Trap Jaw Orco

Why stop there? How about Evil-Lyn? One of the names I’ve seen thrown about is Anne Hathaway. She’d be nice to look at and can act well enough, but is she right? Take the female element a bit further and consider who would play Teela? Heck, could you even work She-Ra into the script? Well, maybe not. How about the supporting characters? Man-at-Arms, Beastman or even Trap Jaw… although, many of these Master of the Universe characters have a difficult-to-translate-to-live-action element to them. Orco is CGI all the way!

Sure, this is a movie that’s a ways off, if it happens at all, but go ahead and play the game… it’s part of the fun! Let us know who you’d like to see in these roles. Who do you think would best fill the goldie locks and wield the mighty sword? And, as always, if you have any ideas for future Fantasy Casts, shoot us an email with your ideas. 1. Dedpool3678 says:

He-Man-Sam Worthington or Michael O'hearn (from the Michael Colora fanfilm trailer World's Finest, if you wat someone truly large)
Prince Adam- Michael Angarano (Forbidden Kingdom)
Skeletor-Brian Thompson (Shao Khan, Mortal Kombat Annihilation) or Ron Perlman
    Man at Arms- Gerard Butler
    Teela-Alexa Davalos
    Evil Lyn-Moon Bloodgood
    Tri-clops-Arnold Vosloo
    Bast Man-Tyler Mane
    King randor-L:iam Neeson
    Queen Marlena-Cathernine Zeta Jones
    Sorceress-Famke Jensen or Sophia Myles
Crinegr/Battlecat (voice)-Andy Serkis/Kevin Greivoux (if they have him talk though if he doesn't that'd be fine too)

    And there ya go.

    • Gotta say, the only name on that list that I think is the perfect choice is Moon Bloodgood as Evil Lyn. That's an excellent choice.

I say, since he's not getting the role of Thor, Alexander Skarsgard should get the role of He-Man. He's damn cool on "True Blood" and he's gotta get a role that turns him into a major star some time. He's as close (physically) to Dolph as we have in today's world.

      • Dedpool3678 says:

That's a great choice for He-Man, I forgot about him. My other choices were less about who would not just look good in the part but could bring meat and gravitas to the role. I think a deep voiced Skeletor would be creepy as hell, and more menacing, though dude that did the voice in the 2002 remake was awesome.

  2. Spent way to much time on this list but I think I nailed it.
He-man- Oliver Price (look him up http://farm1.static.flickr.com/115/310116349_e268…
Prince Adam- Ben Foster (played Angel in X3)
Skeletor- Lindsey Lohan, lol j/k. Tough choice but Hugo Weaving or William Dafoe
Teela- Anne Hathaway or Olivia Thirby (Juno, The Wackness)
Evil Lynn- Lena Headey (Queen Gorgo in 300)
    Sorceress- Tilda Swinton
Man-At-Arms- Sam Elliot or Ian McShane
Trap Jaw- Kevin Durand (smokin aces, lost, wolverine)
Tri Klops- Stephan Moyer (Bill on True Blood)
Beast Man Lawrence Makore (Lurtz in LOTR)
Ram Man- Keavin James or Jamie Waylett (Crabbe From Harry Potter) but he's too young
    Mer-Man-Andy Serkis
Queen Marlena- Rosamund Pike (Doom, Pride and Predjudice)
    King Randor- Liam Nielson

Please let me know what you think…

  3. Dedpool3678 says:

Not bad for the most part. Sam Elloit is too old in my opinion to do the action needed for Man at Arms. Love your Skeletor choices though.

  4. I fully support Dolph being He-man again. That is one of my all time favorite movies. I agree that moon goodblood would be a perfect fit. as far as looks go though I think megan fox has the eyes

  5. redbaron84 says:

Hi came across this string while on a boredom search.. MOTU was my education as a kid! so far all the choices abve are excellent: lemme give my 2cents
HeMan : Christian Bale (don’t tease me, he is talented – Empire of The Sun and The Machinist)or Eric Bana (he’ll need to dye his hair) Intems of Dolf Lundgren-ness you need someone like Channing Tatum but not sure he’s right for it.
    Prince Adam : Hayden Christenson
Skeletor : Val Kilmer – he needs to hit the gym first though. or Ryan Reynolds (I think he is too young though, perhaps battle cats voice if he talks at all, I hope battlecat doesn’t talk actually) perhaps Mel Gibson (he’s nutty enough these days?…)
Evlyn : Anne Hathaway or Angelina Jolie
    Teela : Jessica Biel/Kate Beckinsale
    King Randor : Harrison Ford
Trap Jaw : (tom Cruise – ok thats a joke) Gerard Butler
Beast Man : Liev Schrieber (He’s already sabre tooth)
Merman : Andy sirkus can’t top that!He can also do the shadow men
Man at Arms : Clive Owen
    Scorceress : Famke Jansen
    She Ra : Amber Valetta
    Stratos : Karl Urban
    Ram Man : The Rock
Queen Marlena : Deidre Hall (don’t tease me for knowing this actress)
King Grayskull (see new script at Latinoreview.com) : Liam Neison

Ok cheers really hope they make this film!

  6. TripleH as Heman says:

Triple H has to play HeMan to make it work….there is no other exception. HeMan has to be a big bad ass bruiser….dont care if you hate or love wrestling, TRIPLE H is the only way to go with this.
That being said, it would be nice to get Angie to play Evil Lyn or Teela…but I wouldnt mind seeing Megan Cox as Evil Lyn, then you could go Ryan Reynolds as Skeletor, and Jerry OConnell as the voice of Orko….he has to do something in order for Rebecca to totally throw a life of awesomeness with Stamos away….

  7. Snooki Hearts Tards says:

Oh, and SNOOKI for Jersey as Ram Man!! and Justin Beiber as the Sorceress…

  8. What about Titan from the American Gladiators to play He-Man?

  9. Its so dang ez. He-man has to be played by brad pitt and skeletor by mickey rourke or how ever u spell his name! Haha. Mickey is the ultimate bad guy and is quirky like skelly and brad pitt is the only 1 worth the role at any expense. This movie is going to be bad in a bad way if they try and make it gladiator vs lord of the rings. It needs to have a dark side instead of a fairy tale. Idk. Just hafta see what happens.

    • Angelia Jolie would kill as Evil Lyn.
      Megan Fox for Teela.
Tom Selleck IS Man at Arms.
He-Man- Josh Holloway would be a good choice if he were to bulk up a bunch.
Skeletor – Ryan Reynolds w/ William Defoe as the voice.
      Michael Chiklis as Ram Man.
HHH or Kevin Nash as Beast Man

    • He-man – Chris pine

      Skeletor – micheal Wincott

      Evil Lynn – Megan fox

Man at arms – Tom selleck

      Teela – Jessica alba

      King randor – Liam neeson

Queen marlena – Catherine zeta jones

      Sorceress – cate blanchette

Orko – voiced by frank oz

      Cringed – no voice please

If they’re smart they leave the cast smaller, rather than trying to cram a bunch of characters in one film with no character development. I say leave it open to introduce more characters in sequels…center around skeletor and heman

  10. I would cast Karl Urban to play He Man and Adam, cause in the series it was the same guy minus the tan.I believe he’s got the chop’s and could pull off both character’s very well.Just give him a few months to bulk up.AS for Triple H You have to be kidding, don’t turn the movie into a joke,he isn’t an actor!

  11. Excellent weblog right here! Additionally your site loads up fast! What web host are you the usage of? Can I get your associate link on your host? I desire my site loaded up as quickly as yours lol

  12. Milli jocavich for teela
the guy who plays sabretooth in xman for beastman
    johnny depp for trapjaw
the queen in 300 for evil lynn
sam elliot for man at arms
    syvester stalone for many-faces (lol)
skeletor jack nickalson(the joker in batman)
    he man Hugh jackman
    Prince Adam Vigo Mortesson
Orko, the kid who played harry potter
