DVD Giveaway: ‘Nobel Son’

dvdgiveawaynobelson

What do you get when you mix Alan Rickman and current “it” girl Eliza Dushku? A great black comedy about a recent Nobel Peace prize winner’s son getting kidnapped and being held for ransom.

This movie is just now hitting DVD despite being films back in 2005! We have a few copies for you to win, all you need to do is leave a comment and tell us your favorite “black” comedy.

Here is the synopsis for you that are unfamiliar with this film:

In the kind of role perfected by George Sanders once upon a time, Rickman plays a womanizing egotist whose self-regard is swelled to the breaking point when he wins the Nobel Prize in chemistry. But when he and his wife (Mary Steenburgen) jet to Sweden to claim the award, their son (Bryan Greenberg) is kidnapped by a brute (Shawn Hatosy) claiming to be the scientist’s illegitimate offspring, with a hefty grudge against Dad.

So what are you waiting for? Get on the comments and win a copy of this!

  1. Love the site. My favorite black comedy…FARGO.

  2. I like Eating Raoul, The Last Supper, and Ravenous. I guess I have a fondness for cannibalism.

  3. David T says:

I'm going to go with Royal Tenenbaums. It may not be dark in a violent sense, but I think it's dark enough. Owen Wilson does crash a car into a dog while hopped up on speed or something like speed. That's pretty hilarious. "I just wanted to be a Tenenbaum so bad."

  4. 8 heads in a duffel bag was pretty good.

  5. Addams Family values was good.

  6. In Bruges

"Plenty of alcoves in Bruges. "

  7. Michelle says:

Thank You for Smoking is my favorite so far. Aaron Eckhart is the king of black comedy.

  8. Gross Pointe Blank was pretty good. The Big Lebowski is up there too of course — gotta go with the Dude!

  9. isaac Mccoy says:

Michelle was right about Aaron Eckhart. I really love " Your friends and Neighbors". Stiller was such a slimeball in that one.

  10. Amber Sisco says:

The Big Lebowski is my favorite black comedy. You really can't top El Duderino, in my mind.

  11. I have to say that Very Bad Things by Peter Berg was hilarious, everything that could go wrong at a bachelor party in Vegas does… the last scene of the demanding bride, Cameron Diaz, having a breakdown in the middle of the street because she has to take care of her new husband, Jon Favreau, and his friend who are now paraplegics along with their dog is hysterical…dark, ironic and violent comedy.

  12. DAYoung says:

    Black Comedy?
    Arsenic and Old lace..then:
    Better off Dead

  13. probably my favorite black comedy is after hours….

  14. Laura DeLuca says:

    I like Scary Movie
