I think Ledger was intended to do the narration, but he died before he could, and no one ever made the official announcement that he didn't get a chance to do it. Neither his name nor his voice are anywhere in the film. Not sure about the title differences. 'Sea of Darkness' is clearly a better title. Yeah, I thought that was weird, too.
