‘American Werewolf in London’ to be Remade

amwerewolflondon

If I ask you what the great werewolf movie ever made is, what would your answer be? If you said ‘An American Werewolf in London’ then you’re absolutely right! If you said anything else, well… just go sit down in the corner and wait for the adults to finish their conversation.

When I saw that this modern horror classic was going to be remade, I just about lost my mind. Apparently, John Landis has sold rights to the remake rights to Dimension Films. The Weinstein brothers seem to be on a modern horror remake trend, currently working on bringing ‘Hellraiser’ back as well.

I’ve made my position clear on how I feel about taking great films into remake territory. Let’s just hope they do a decent job and approach it in an acceptable way like ‘Disturbia’ was (IMO) an acceptable remake of Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’.

ANOTHER remake?!?!?!?! aarrgghhhh. And this one tah boot?!?!?!! Disgraceful!

Is there no room for 'Silver Bullet' and 'Dog Soldiers' as good werewolf films? No? ok…I'll go sit in the corner…LOL

AMERICAN WEREWOLF.. might be the best werewolf COMEDY ever but hardly the best werewolf movie. CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF is by fa the best, followed by anything with Lon Chaney or Paul Naschy (especially FRANKENSTEIN'S BLOODY TERROR). Even THE HOWLING from the same year is better than AMERICAN WEREWOLF….which I always found sorta silly. Just my opinion

  3. The 'American Werewolf' Vs. 'Howling' debate has and will go one for years and years. Personally, I prefer 'American Werewolf,' but that is having a number of years since I last saw 'Howling.' Personally, I've always been partial to the Lon Chaney original and Neil Jordan's 'Company of Wolves.' Also, 'The Beast Must Die' is a guilty pleasure of mine.

I will say in 'American Werewolf's defense that it has the best werewolf transformation scene of any on record, although the one seen in the upcoming 'New Moon' rivals that.

    I'm kidding. Or am I?

  4. Hmm… OK, point taken. 'American Werewolf' isn't THE best, but it's a far cry from being the worst. I too am partial to the classics, but for some reason they always register in a different part of my brain. Weird? Lon Chaney is THE MAN! 'Company of Wolves' is one of those films I've wanted to see for years and haven't, partially because it's been kind of elusive. I almost saw it late one night recently as it was available as a free on demand title, but it was so late I fell asleep within the first 15 minutes. Hey, I was tired… lay off! I did really enjoy those first 15 minutes though!

  5. Interesting page, adored reading though it. cheers.
