Promo Trailer for Herzog’s vision of ‘Bad Lieutenant’

bad-lieutenant-herzog-poster

Oh boy.   Herzog, what the fuck are you doing with this film.   I pray that this is just a badly cut promo that is taking these scenes out of context.   However, I doubt it.   The problem with this promo isn’t on how it is cut, it is the content.

After I watched this, I swear I heard the echo of my laughter and, then immediate, weeping over what I witnessed.   Let’s rewind.

Werner Herzog stated that this will be his version of Bad Lieutenant.   He is not remaking Ferrara’s original, as he hasn’t seen it.   He sees Bad Lieutenant as something gamers would akin to Call of Duty, a product line.   While I can’t agree with him, I see where he is coming from.   Especially since Edward R. Pressman – the producer behind the original – is producing Herzog’s version.   Basically, what I get from it, is Pressman is cashing in on the name and giving Herzog a rough outline.   I mean, a bad & nasty cop isn’t anything new, why not make it a franchise.   Ah….franchises like Terminator, Star Wars, Transformers, Star Trek, Spider-Man, Batman…..Bad Lieutenant.   Yep, makes sense.

Enjoy & squirm at the below promo reel/trailer courtesy of Twitch (Yes, it looks like  the preview is unavailable – but hit the play button & just dismiss it as Twitch trying to give you a last chance):

  1. Ok, He’s made a remake but has NOT seen the original. Does that seem at least a little weird to anyone else? It does to me.

  2. Dammit, I hate Edward R. Pressman, because, if this were not a remake of ‘Bad Lieutenant’, if it were a completely disconnected film called…I don’t know, ‘Port of Call’, it would look like a helluva lot of fun. I actually laughed at some of the stuff (“Shoot him again! His soul’s still dancing!” Brilliant) in this trailer, but seeing that it’s cashing in on the ‘Bad Lieutenant’ name just puts a bad taste in my mouth.

  3. Kirk, I completely get the taste you’re experiencing and can sympathize, but it’s just not affecting me at all simply because I am such a pathetically devoted fan of Werner Herzog. I have never seen a movie of his I haven’t liked and I’ve seen damn near all of them, considering how many he’s made. Producers and marketing aside, I am “all in” for this one!

  4. wow, this teaser/trailer is freaking awesome. I havent been excited for a nic cage movie in a very long time..

  5. How is this related at all to the original Bad Luietenant. All it seems like is a cheap rip off. Nic Cage is one of the most overrated actors of the last 25 years.

  6. Seriously like your websites information! Undoubtedly a great offer of info that is extremely helpful. Proceed to retain publishing and i am gonna proceed reading through! Cheers.
