Verbinski’s ‘Pirate’ Days are Over

Director Gore Verbinski won’t be the Cap’n on ‘Pirates 4.’ Â He has informed Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer that he will not be helming the expected sequel to the ginormous success that was the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ trilogy. Â The fourth installment of the franchise has an anticipated release date of some time in 2010.
“I had a fantastic time bringing ‘Pirates’ to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team,” Verbinski said. “I’m looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future.”
Verbinski is currently directing the animated ‘Rango,’ starring the voice of ‘Pirates’ star Johnny Depp. Â The director will next turn his sights on an adaptation of the popular boardgame ‘Clue.’
‘Pirates 4′ hasn’t officially been given the greenlight, and there is no word on how Verbinski’s departure will effect the film’s production. Â Something tells me Bruckheimer will make it happen one way or another. Â The ‘Pirates’ trilogy made $2.6 billion worldwide.
Who do you think would make a suitable replacement director for Verbinski? Â Is Verbinski making the right choice? Â Should a fourth ‘Pirates’ film get made? Â Which was your favorite of the trilogy? Â Let us know by commenting below!

I must say I am disappointed that Verbinski will not be returning because he is a very talented filmmaker and made the series (along with Depp) so successful. I look forward to other projects from him. Advice to Disney, here are three other directors I believe can fit the bill and challenges of another pirates movie:
1. Tim Burton
2. Alex Proyas
3. D.J. Caruso
Ron Howard if they want talent and quality.
Maybe a veteran like Richard Donner as long as they gave him the budget.
If Brad Bird did a live action movie he’d be an awesome choice.
Del Toro obviously, but his schedule is packed for years isn’t it?
Maybe someone like Kevin Reynolds (Count of Monte Cristo) who isn’t a household name, but can still make a decent flick?
I’m not sure where you are getting your information, but great topic. I needs to spend some time learning more or understanding more. Thanks for wonderful info I was looking for this information for my mission.
