The building of the ship, and establishing/defining Kirk's character. Sure, the guy on the motorcycle as a symbol of being 'untamed' and thrill seeking is fairly cliche, but as established as it is, when it fits - it gets the message across. Else, I think it's an attractive image. I think it look better as a digital image than it would on a wall for some reason.
