Live Action ‘Star Wars’ TV Show is Casting

There have been rumors and whispers about a live-action TV series that would take place in the ‘Star Wars’ universe ever since George Lucas was working on ‘Revenge of the Sith’. His priority became the Animated ‘Clone Wars’ movie and the animated series, but back in 2007 Lucas apparently started writing for a live-action series.
MTV managed to get this little tid-bit revealing something is in the works:
During the junket for the Nicolas Cage thriller “Knowing,†star Rose Byrne let slip that Team Lucas is casting a wide net for actors to join the show. “A lot of my friends have been auditioning for it,†she said. — MTV
Honestly, I think this might be interesting. I really wasn’t a fan of the animated ‘Clone Wars’ movie or the series, but from what MTV has gathered about the approach being taken for the live-action TV series, I like what I’m reading! Check this out…
According to Lucas, the show will focus on minor characters from the saga and be set in the time period between “Revenge of the Sith†(Episode III) and the original “Star Wars†(Episode IV). The action will follow the Rebel Alliance as it slowly gains strength against the Empire. There will be Stormtroopers, but no Jedi or Darth Vader will appear on screen. As he did with the “Clone Wars†series, Lucas will write and shoot an entire year’s worth of episodes before looking for a cable channel on which to air the series. — MTV
So, what do you guys think? Does it sound cool? Is it just more of Lucas marketing his cash cow, or is it something new and different, or both? Does he need to let ‘Star Wars’ go and create something fresh, new and different? (I do, actually, lean towards the latter.) Let us know how you feel by leaving comments.

Im done with that era. I don’t plan on watching the movies all the way through again till I have kids. If Lucas insists on keeping the SW world alive, then he should focus his energy on the vast, Post-Episode VI world. There was always the rumor that he actually wrote 7,8 & 9 (not just outlines), which is why he had to aprove every detail for each of the new age books, so any new movies would follow the storyline… Having said that, I also would like to see him have a few more non-Star Wars projects before his creative well completely dries up (or has another medical issue).
There is no Star Wars with out Jedi. There, I said it. You wana’ fight about it?
I’m sorry but at least give us Vader hunting down the remaining Jedi. Or something. Or maybe just do a live action Tales of the Jedi. It was the force and the lightsaber that made Star Wars what it is.
This concept sounds totally lame to me. Its just another way for Lucas to filch money out of the fan boys.
George, come on man, at least give us something we want to buy; like the original trilogy, unaltered, on DVD. Let us have our Star Wars the way we fell in love with it in the first place. I say we boycot the new series and let George know that he needs to give us what we want or move on to something completely new. Stop beating my beloved, albeit, dead horse!
I loved the original trilogy so much I let George Lucas trick me into seeing three craptacular “Star Wars” films we refer to as the Prequels. If indeed those *three,* large budget films weren’t as satisfying as the originals, which were made on dramatically smaller budgets, how am I to believe him that he’d give us a televison show that was worth anything? In baseball terms, he’s struck out! Don’t get me started on the animated stuff.
Heavens knows, of course, if he made it, the fans would watch. I mean, look at the response to the Terminator television show! People would lap up Star Wars crap as it oozed from Lucas’s butt, and we know that’s a fact.
Lucas seems uninspired; he should really focus his attention, and his piles of money generated from Star Wars fans, into another project.
Let it go Lucas…. Let it go.
I read somewhere that he was going to shoot and direct a much smaller and more intimate project a la American Graffiti. What happened to that?
