Josh Hartnett, a Villain for ‘Thor’?

Not long ago, we informed you of some news/rumor that Kenneth Branaugh is courting Alexander Skarsgà ¥rd (‘True Blood’) to play the mighty Thor in the coming movie based on the Marvel comic books. Now, it seems he has a favorite in mind to play Thor’s villain.
So far as we know, the villain will be Loki (aka God of Mischief) who happens to be Thor’s brother. Loki is at constant odds with Thor and makes numerous attempts to dispose of his brother to claim the throne of Asgard for himself.
According to sources of IESB.net, Josh Hartnett is on a “very short list” of potential candidates to play Loki, and is apparently excited about the opportunity to play a villain for the first time. No official selections have been made.

was anyone else kind of worried about this film when it was first announced? I was very worried that it would be the first disaster in Marvel’s near perfect Avengers plan. But after the choice of director, and the casting rumors, I’m really starting to get excited about this. If the whole “Avengers Saga” plays out the right way (as it looks like it is), with the focus on quality talent and story, this could be really be amazing! I know we still have to get through a few more films, but it’s off to a great start.
If Hartnett could bulk up by about 25 pounds I could see him totally pulling it off, but putting on all that muscle would be critical for him because he’s cut but not nearly enough.
Keep in mind, he’s being considered for the part of Loki, not Thor. He wouldn’t need to be a “ripped” as Thor because he’s always been a more sleek frame than Thor is with his Arnie-style bulges. Hmm, it kinda feels weird talking about this…
I dont like the idea of Hartnett for anything superhero related. he has a very specific personality and I dont see him pulling off any other roles besides ones he has to play a non established character.
Travis: That’s why I said about 25 lbs. of muscle. Keep in mind Loki is still from Norse mythology where everyone takes part in battles all the time and the dead are carried off the battlefield by Valkyries to Valhalla where they feast, fight some more, and have lots of sex and then repeat the process the very next day for eternity. Loki isn’t nearly as ripped as Thor, but he still has to be chiseled like he benches and squats a whole lot more than the average human. To be fair though my weakness here is that I honestly don’t know anything about Loki in the comics; I only know about the actual religious mythology fairly extensively.
Scott: I can understand where you’re coming from, I just think Hartnett is underrated. Although I might project him as better than what he might be but I don’t know. I thought he was awesome Slevin, 40 Days, Faculty, Black Hawk, and Resurrecting the Champ so my biased may be a little too thick to look at it at a different angle.
good choice. Naw how about Paul reuben
Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd is a great actor plus he is freaking “HOTTTT”. He was in the series/film on HBO called “Generation Kill” and loved his work.
Josh Hartnett, I think personally, is a hottie too.
Cannot wait till the movie comes out!!!
Your work is genuine and factual. It’s based on actual info and it exhibits you have carried out a great deal of study. I find it very educational to some part.
