Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie in ‘The Runaways’?
Not long ago, I wrote a post informing you of a bio-rock-pic being made about Joan Jett and her all-girl band The Runaways from the 70′s. Kristen Stewart (Twilight) is already cast to play Joan Jett and now Dakota Fanning (Push) is in negotiations to play lead singer Cherie Currie.
At 15, Fanning is the same age Currie was when she made her debut with the Runaways as the lead singer who belted out hard-edged tunes like “Cherry Bomb.” Currie became caught up in drugs and a hard-partying lifestyle. – Variety
What are your thoughts? Personally, I’m having a difficult time imagining either of these actresses being able to successfully pull off these roles, but at the same time I don’t want to shoot them down. I like to see actors take on challenging roles, making efforts to expand their craft, but it’s no walk in the park either. Do you think they can convincingly portray these legendary female rockers, or are they destined to fail? If so, who would you rather see rocking out in the leather and lingerie?

kristen will do fine as the quiet & brooding young Jett and can pull off the look with ease. Dakota Fanning is annoying in the way Britney Spears was..in that all too hurry and rush to show the world she was "not that innocent"..blah blah blah. Fine, it was your acting and sweetness that made people take notice of you Miss Fanning, not your looks. You remind me of a Jodie Foster, who, without acting chops, would have made it nowhere in film. Cherie Currie was beautiful and looked much older at 15 than she was. You simply do not have the looks or the maturity to pull the role off convincingly. Esp. to those of us who have read Neon Angel and have heard all the Runaways music…BAD PICK FOR LEAD!! (i wonder what Miss Currie thinks of the casting…am going to check out her myspace page asap)
I watched the movie and it was great. I think that Fanning did a wonderful interpretation of Cherie Currie in the Runnaways. I loved her performance and as well as Kristen’s performance as Joan Jett. I think it is rather narrow minded to comment of an actors’ abilities without watching the film first. People are way eager to judge. Dakaota is one of my fav actresses on the circut. She seems to be a well grounded actress as young as she is. She has worked the majority of her childhood and had great roles. She did a wonderful job!
You're so wrong, Dakota is a fantastic actress who takes her craft very seriously. She is NOTHING like Britney Spears, what an asinine comparison. Dakota is totally humble and respectful in real life. I have full confidence that she can pull off this role.
Well Lets see! First of all, I went to highschool with Cherie, and she is beautiful, and she can sing! I am not so sure that Dakota Fanning has the stamina, or the vocals to play Cherie, that is if they are going to let them sing, or dub in there vocals. I think Kristen Stewart can play Joan Jett. She is a good actress, but again can she sing??? I hope the actresses they cast can sing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, it would be a much better film! Not only should they sing, but they must be able to immitate the real girls voices, otherwise! It could end up a flop of a film.
what thefuck mannthey are both amazing actresses kristenstewert doing films like panic room or speakk a documentry about a thirteen year old girl who has been raped and dokata fanning was most amazing child actresses and she's proven she can be edgey in films like push so ithink they are good choices to show up anysmallminded paterenising idiots such as yourself :)
Well….as long as they dont make Dakota do anything too racy (I dont think they can, she's still a minor-15), I'm okay with her as Cherie. But, from seeing the trailer and a few on-set photos, and knowing that Cherie was a "s_x kitten" I sure hope Dakota knows when too say, "Im only 15. I can prove my maturity in a different role/way."

I saw the movie last night.
I had my doubts about Dakota and Kristen as they were nothing like I would have pictured Cherrie and Joan to be like. But guys, I thought they pulled it off fantastically.
Dakota was AMAZING.
She is extremely talented in both acting and singing and I believe she IS mature and its impossible to stay childish and innocent in a business like that.

haha you guys are fucking losers, Dakota and Kristen both did great in the movie. Some of you actually watched the movie, but for those of you who didn't, youre so quick to judge before you even know what the fuck youre talking about. and if youre offended by my comment, then its probably because everything i said is true, and no one likes to hear the truth.
