Are the ‘Fantastic Four’ getting a Reboot?

fantasticfourreboot

According to IESB.net, word on the street is that Fantastic Four will possibly be joining the likes of Daredevil and Superman in terms of comic book movies getting rebooted in an effort to appeal to fans and create a financially successful franchise.

The first two Fantastic Four films had mediocre box office turnout (at best) and never truly caught fire, but the kicker is that there are LOTS of ‘FF’ fans out there. So, the theory is that the approach needs to be changed.

It’s anyone’s call on whether this is legit, or simply a rumor, but it appears as though the game-plan is to completely overhaul the franchise with new writers, director, cast and even the cinematic approach to a new ‘FF’ movie being more serious with funny bits (i.e. ‘Iron Man’) than “bubble gum” fun, as the first film felt.

The sequel ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer’ made an effort to move a little closer to this approach, but fell short. So, the question is… well, there’s lots of questions. What would a “successful” ‘FF’ movie look like? Would Dr. Doom return, or do we move on to other villains? Who should be cast as the Fantastic Four?

  1. Although I loved the chase scene in FF2, Tim Story was overmatched for the project. I though the first one was about as interesting as the Corman stinker with prettier pictures. Jessie Alba was too cute and the rest were too boring. Story could not decide if the franchise was going to be serious or lighthearted. I would not mind seeing Walter Hill given a shot. And no more wimps as Reed Richards. Why can’t a nerd kick ass. Cast Nicky from heroes as Sue and give her something to do. I don’t know who did less, Sue or Storm. Why are the Marvel females so hapless. Make the new Sue a Sarah Connors type.

  2. This is WAY too early to be thinking of a remake. Way waaaay too early. I think if they did it now, chances are the movie would be riding on the coat-tails of ther other in terms of style. It would probably take the whole franchise into the darkzone, as the first two were so lighthearted, and that’s all we need, another depressing, dark superhero film.

Give it a few years, Hollywood. Please?
