  20. I am a huge fan of Coraline and your website!

  21. I came into Henry Selick’s “Coraline” expecting a great film; after all, with “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “James and the Giant Peach” under his belt — and the source material coming from Neil Gaiman — how could it not be? This was my first 3D film experience, and I am so glad it was. Now I know that I will be seeing Pixar’s “Up” in 3D for certain, and I’ve become a believer in 3D films in general. I believe a lot of that stems from the techniques employed throughout this film. And the characters were transferred from book to screen exceptionally well — I even liked the addition they made. The imagery and gorgeousness of this film will never leave my mind. I’d be great to get some free swag of it!

  22. I love the work henry selick did on nightmare! And I really wanted to go and see this movie but I could not! It was to far and my theatre was not picked to have this movie.
I love the time It takes to make these movies’ It’s an art In Itself! I know this Is going to sound like I’m faking this to get the Items’ But I have MS and I am confined to my house most of the time It’s not an easy disease to live with I take shots every day! It’s a hard thing to deal with! So If you would please take It upon yourself’s to give me an smidget of happiness for one day I would be awfully thankfull! I feel bad for using my disease to try and win this!
But who wouldnt It’s Henry selick’s work! I can’t wait to finally see the movie when It comes to DVD. Thanks again

  23. my daughter and i went to see this on valentines day…kinda scared the crap out of her but we’re a morbid family anyway. now gimme

Free stuff! Is this contest a random drawing or do you have to show actual interest in Coraline? IF Coraline is a super hit maybe they can make a Coraline II. Possible working title “Coraline vs Alien”? Think of the possibilities?

  25. I almost wish Up weren’t coming out this year so Coraline could win the Oscar it so surely deserves. But, we know how Pixar (usually deservedly) sweeps the Animation category every year.

  26. Coraline was awesome! Very glad there was a shout out for Michigan State fans out there..

  27. When I first saw the trailers, I was on the fence about “Coraline.” I had a feeling that Henry Selick might find the need to water down the story to make the movie “safer” for a younger audience.

I’m happy that wasn’t the case. He created a movie that stays faithful to the book and is visually stunning – but also a little disquieting. In fact, I found parts to be genuinely creepy (no small feat, considering horror movies are my primary staple), which is an interesting departure from his previous work with “Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Corpse Bride.”

Also interesting is that in some scenes, this movie displays some of the tell-tale signs of stop-motion that you just don’t see anymore. Both “Nightmare” and “Corpse” have a very smooth and refined look that could almost be mistaken for CGI. While “Coraline” employs the same motion blur technology, there are certain scenes, like Bobinsky’s mouse circus, that are reminiscent of those stop motion holiday films from the 70s, with a halting movement that enhances the creepiness.

However, one thing it shares with “Nightmare” is rewatchability. I’ve seen “Coraline” a few times now, and just like “Nightmare,” each time I watch it I see something new. That’s a sure sign of a classic – assuming the edginess of this film doesn’t marginalize its success and relegate the merchandise to the back wall at Hot Topic.

For anyone who hasn’t seen it, I would encourage you to go now. This is a movie that needs to be experienced on the big screen, and it won’t be around much longer.

  28. Coraline is awesome.
    I’ve seen it 3 times!
    Make me a winner!

  29. I’d love to win this for my brother, he’s a hugh fan and has seen the movie 3 times already.Pick me, i’d love to surprise him with some swag.

  31. Ooooohhhhh Happy Birthday tooo meeeeeee! I loved this movie!!!

  32. Not sure if you still have the shweet Coraline swag but I sure would love some!!! ;)
I thought this movie was fantastic, and can not believe how much work (probably more then I could imagine) went into making this amazing story. LOVED IT!

  33. My 6 year old daughter and I wanted to see the movie… in 3D, but were hearing about children clinging to their parents legs in terror from the experience.

We read the book. 176 pages… in a weekend. I don’t know what scared her more, the thought of an “other mother”, or her real one chasing her about the house, reading to her and with her non stop for 48 hours (we’re slow readers). We read at night, we read during her bath, we read over every meal. Then… We were ready.

We saw the film at the Arclight Cinema in Hollywood. My daughter sat, with fingers in her ears throughout the whole film (it WAS loud).

    The consensus? “It WAS AWESOME!”.

You’d make a little girl (and her “other-other mother”) very happy.

  34. I would love to win this.
I read the book a couple weeks ago on my day off and told my mom she had to read it. We both loved it.
We watched the movie last week in 3D and it was awesome.
My mom’s birthday is next month and I would love to give this to my mom.
