Steve Oedekerk has signed on to write a feature film adaptation of ‘Stretch Armstrong’ for Universal.   First it was ‘Transformers’, then ‘G.I. Joe’.   It seems they are already scraping the bottom of the barrel in terms of toys and board games to adapt into feature films.   ‘Candy Land’, ‘Monopoly’, and now this.

Oedekerk has written such comedies as ‘Patch Adams’, ‘Bruce Almighty’, ‘Kung Pow: Enter the Fist’, and ‘Evan Almighty’.   Okay, so the guy is pretty hit or miss.   Not sure where ‘Stretch Armstrong’ will fit in with the rest of those.   We’ll have to wait and see.

“This is a new well from which to draw intellectual properties that bring a pre-awareness and nostalgia,” said Bennett Schneir of Hasbro. “They are drawing filmmakers who find a real emotional connection and resonance, and this is proving to be a compelling driver for motion pictures.”
