Fantasy Cast… Who should play Freddy Krueger in the remake?
Everyone loves to fantasy cast. Hell, I spend most of my offtime just dreaming up various actors who would be perfect for various roles. Gotta say I dida pretty decent fantasy cast on ‘G.I. Joe’. Of course, only one of my choices actually got picked, but it doesn’t make it any less fun.
Well, here is the forum for you to do just that. We’ll give you a topic and let you run rampant.
This week, we’re asking you who would play the perfect Freddy Krueger?
You know ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ remake is in the works. We just announced today that the film picked up a director. However, there still is no word as to who will be stepping into the red and green striped shirt left vacant by Robert Englund.
If you read that article, you know my ideal choice would be Ben Foster. The guy was made to play a psychopath, and he looks like he could easily be Robert Englund’s long-lost son.

Josh Lucas – Got that, could be your dad, could be a crazy maniac look.
Aaron Eckhart – I’d watch him read a newspaper… and his face has already been gnarled.
Rufus Sewell – If he can do an American accent
What about Bill Mosely?
Mosely would be a good choice. Josh Lucas and Aaron Eckhart are too “leading man” to take the part. Rufus Sewell might be good, but I can’t really picture him in the part. Sarah Jessica Parker definitely has the creepy factor going.

I really don’t see Aaron Eckhart being able to pull off the role. I can’t think of any role he’s played that would give me the impression he has any Krueger in him and don’t say ‘Dark Knight’ because he wasn’t creepy in that! I’m on the fence with Josh Lucas, but leaning towards “no”. I don’t think Rufus Sewell is the “right” kind of creepy. Ben Foster, however, strikes me as a good candidate. He’s not too “pretty” and he’s certainly got the right types of roles under his belt to convince me he has some Krueger in him. Two other actors I think may be able to pull this role off are Crispin Glover and Cillian Murphy.
Really, I think Crispin Glover will be someone a lot of people think of when thinking up someone to play Freddy Krueger. However, I think he’s too obvious of a choice. I think it would be hard to see past it being Crispin Glover in burn makeup, unless they went all out and made Krueger so messed up he’s almost not human.
Cillian Murphy would be cool. He’d be good for anything, though.
I think Crispin Glover is less of a known actor outside of Movie Geeks than you’re giving him credit for. I do see what you’re saying about it being Glover in makeup, but that’s partially why I think he’d do a good job, seeing as he does have some range within his creepiness and would probably do the role justice. I still think his creepiest performance was in ‘Willard’ and combine that with his voice work in ‘Beowulf’… he’s tough to beat! I really like Murphy, but I think this is a role he’d likely turn down, even if it were offered. Don’t ask me why, because I don’t know why… it’s just a gut feeling, I guess?
